  • LEGENDS OF THE OLD WEST presented by Black Barrel Media. John Omohundro grows up in Virginia and serves as a Confederate spy during the Civil War before moving west to become one of America’s first cowboys. He becomes known as Texas Jack, meets Wild Bill Hickok, and then Buffalo Bill Cody. He leads grand hunting expeditions in Yellowstone National Park, and then receives an offer from popular writer Ned Buntline to co-star in a stage play. Jack takes the plunge and embarks on the adventure that will change his life.

His grave is sadly in a really run down cemetery in Leadville Co. , most of the graves are in disrepair in this section, except Texas Jack’s and the victims of the Homestead mine disaster! Every time I’ve been there coins have been left on Texas Jack’s headstone! He really was a colorful character!

Jack's funeral was at the Tabor, and I was happy to see that they keep a framed portrait of Jack and his wife on the wall there. It is sad that the cemetery hasn't been better maintained, though lately the efforts of "Friends of Evergreen Cemetery" have really helped.

@@dimelibrary974 yah trees growing in graves! Buffalo Bill helped pay for the headstone. I seen they did a lot of work on the Tabor the last couple years, I go through Leadville every week and got to see the progress.

Very interesting video as always. I just purchased a book not long ago about Texas Jack. Texas Jack America's First Cowboy Star by Matthew Kerns. I plan on starting to read it as soon as I finish Wild Bill The Teue Story of The American Frontier's First Gunfighter by Tom Clavin.

Does anyone realize that those in the trench, would embellish to get out? The shows made everyone money, but those that lived it. It was still better than the trench. Sheep loved it, as the spectators in the Roman Coliseum.

    The school lad's pa was a flat-earther.
They actually taught flat earth in American schools up into the 1950s.
