Flawless video as usual! My friends, few days ago, got me a g85 w/12-60 kit as a gift for my graduation! Hope it stills a good options for years coming! Greetings from Italy, keep it up!!
I absolutely love my G80 (same as G85 but for different market); I had one, sold it a year ago but missed it so much I bought another one a few months later... and I already have and use a GH5 and G9 professionally. The G80 is a great addition to the kit and I use all three all the time. I'm sure you'll love it!
@@bananapie2198 I got the G9! Love it. The choice came down to Lumix S5 (which I had pre-ordered for several weeks and then bailed on) or the G9. Not as great with low light as S5 of course, but an amazing value!
I hope Panasonic don't focus on 8k for GH series, completely unnecessary for most people. Give us better low light, higher frame rates and better usability like USB power, OLED screen etc
Superb video! The G9 is the best camera I've ever had. It's awesome and so much fun to use all while being ergonomic with almost perfect ability to customize it, way beyond anything I've seen before. The Panasonic Leica 42,5mm F1.2 is pure magic as well and there are very few other lenses from any system that can match its overall qualities. Sharpness is one thing, lots of lenses are sharp but most lack soul and character. This is were many of the Panasonic Leica lenses win big time, they just have a rendering that most others don't and that alone is worth staying with the system for. And the simple fact is, unlike what most people seem to tell them selves, a bigger sensor does not make up for the lack of skill or vision.
I see you're getting a lot of requests to feature Olympus and other cameras. I think the reason you're getting these requests is mainly because your reviews are so professionally done, your viewers confuse you with a typical media outlet that tries to review everything from a purely objective viewpoint. I see from your responses to those requests that you're more focused on sharing what you know from your personal experience. Both are perfectly valid approaches.
Yeah, this is more of a blog, so I don't aspire to review everything out there. I have tried Olympus cameras and lenses, but Panasonic makes more sense for me personally.
@@TheHybridShooter If you ever feel like making one or more videos talking about the type of work you do and what you've learned from using all this equipment you review, I'm sure that would also be great content for the channel.
Hello, my friend! I just bought a G9 after a few years of wanting it, and it's fantastic. I also have the GH4 which I use for work, and the GX85 as a smaller personal camera, so the difference in operation speed, features and video quality is very noticeable. Handling is also superb. I always watch your videos because they are no nonsense, very informative, and feature real world use. I've been using m43 since the Olympus E-M5 in 2012, and I much prefer Panasonic for the video features. Great job as always. Greetings from Australia.
You just answered a lot of questions I had over the last months. Thanks! I am using the G85 with 3 lenses for consumer photography (architecture, sports and travel) - Panasonic 12-60 kit lens, Olympus 45mm 1.8 and the Leica 8-18mm. I shoot a lot of video in VLOG style and some commercial clips for social media. I love the M4/3 system, but I had a lot of doubts for its future capabilities in comparison to Full Frame especially Sony A7 III and IV. I want to get my hands on the Leica 50-200mm, I think that would make my lens collection complete for my usage. I love your videos. Keep it up!
I've been working with panasonic system since 2016. I do weddingvideos and I started with g7s and now I'm using g9s. Incredible quality and best bang for my money. Clients love the quality and have no idea I am using m43.
Do clients now pay less attention to camera size? I recall stories of photographers who put on a battery grip to their M43s simply to tick the "big camera = professional" stereotype
Great video. I just bought the Leica 42.5 because it’s the closest thing I can think of to a telephoto version to the Leica 10-25. You’re the only other guy I’ve heard who’s talking about a future Leica 25-50. If they are trying to provide alternatives to sigmas 1.8 zooms.
I'm still using the G85 for professional work for about 2,5 years! I have watched many of your video's about this camera and the a6300 for months to come to the decision. It's still a great camera, great video quality, colors and the IBIS is killer.
Excellent video. Out of all my cameras I love shooting my G9 the most. Small and light weight with light weight lenses, and great ergonomics. I’m also hoping a GH6 will come out in the future. Thanks again.
This is an excellent video and a great synopsis of the current state of MFT in 2020. I still like to use my G85 and GX85, although I love the GX9 colours in your photos and videos. I can really see the improvements in colour science Panasonic made with that ‘new-ish’ sensor and processor.
I know that you have concentrated on Panasonic and you have done an excellent job covering them. I would like to add that Olympus has added greatly to the Micro 4/3 system with a slightly different set of gear but still relevant in my opinion. I have owned both and like both. There are some features in the Olympus bodies that I prefer and their professional line of lens is top notch. I wonder if the system can still justify two major manufacturers going forward with the disastrous effect that the pandemic has had on camera equipment sales. Your comments about a back illuminated sensor of about the same resolution are spot on because really, the system is almost complete except for the exotic lens etc. I also believe that M4/3 has probably not innovated fast enough for the cell phones on the low end and the APSC cameras on the higher end of the sensor spectrum to catch up and negate any size/price advantage that M4/3 might have had. Finally neither company has really embraced the total connectivity advantage that cell phones represent for 90% of the photos normal people want to record. But neither has anyone else in the ILC world. Nice review.
Of course, Olympus has contributed a lot to the M43 system and it is a shame that Panasonic and Olympus have decided to go against each other with incompatible dual stabilization, no lens corrections and no DFD profiles for Oly lenses. I don't think that connectivity is such a big priority for advanced users. There are some great ways to work with content on the go with simple off-loading pictures to the smartphone / tablet, so I would prefer doing that anyway.
@@TheHybridShooter If the only segment of the ILC market that Panasonic and Olympus are interested in is the high end professional shooter, then I would agree with you. But for the rest of us, having to shove cards in and out of camera bodies, mess with having to always upload to computers and then having to go through the process of editing them in another application that requires memorizing another couple of hundred commands/menus just doesn't make sense to me. It is my personal opinion that the number of photographers left who do want to go through all this complexity and process does not justify the number of camera manufacturers and camera model lines that are currently for sale. We are at the end of a golden age in the history of cameras. What cameras are on your review list? I really enjoy all that you do!!
There were multiple attempts to do that such as Lumix CM1, Samsung Galaxy camera or Sony QX10 but it always failed. There just isn't sufficiently large market for connected cameras with larger sensor. Majority of people would rather use regular smartphone camera, use proper camera and view / edit pictures on proper screen or do what I described. I will be reviewing a couple of gimbal, RX100 VII and Insta360 One R.
Nice summary, I’m currently using the Gh5 w/speed booster xl and testing the old Tamron 70-200 2.8 (got really cheap). It’s a nice combo (a lot of manual focusing) Although the speed booster adds some value to camera, since you get wider aperture and possibility’s to use Canon Ef lenses and non canon EF-S, but it also makes it a bigger system (obviously)
My First Camera was and STILL have the Lumix G7 and bought a 45-150mm lens and then Bought the G85 and A Neewer 35mm Lens which is PERFECT. Love the Panasonic Lineup.
Thanks for an excellent video. One thing I would add whenever talking about MFT size advantages is the size of the lenses. Some MFT cameras are not tiny, but there is still a size advantage because of the small lenses they use.
You're welcome! I have recently talked about that in GH5 vs S1 video. That is only relative advantage, equal FF and M43 lenses will always be roughly the same size. M43 lenses are generally smaller but those can't do the same thing as FF counterparts.
I know you can't cover and use everything, but it would have been great to also hear your opinion on the Olympus side of the MFT house, and its direction.
Unfortunately, I can't get any review units from Olympus and nothing from their lineup is interesting enough for me to buy it, so that probably won't happen anytime soon.
The G9 is a great price at the moment, probably the best value for money out of all current M43 cameras, including Olympus. Although I notice their price slightly increased recently, but still great value. I agree the G95 is hovering too close in price to the G9 and the G85 is an absolute steal on the used camera market. Nice review.
I’m working professionally with the GH5 (and GH4 as a B Cam) since 2017 and I love it! I love to work with the Oly 7-14mm f2.8 + Lumix 12-35 and 35-100mm f2.8. The Sigma f1.4 are also great and always with me. When I need something more cinematic I use the Noktons 10.5mm and the 25mm f0.95, and they are a dream to work. For my Hobby, Birding and wildlife, I will buy the new em-1 iii and use it with my Leica 100-400mm and Oly 300mm f4. I’m perfectly happy with the mft system. I agree with you and I would be happy to see a BSI mft Sensor in the next months or early 2021. But for my use, the current 20 mp sensors are fine. Greetings from Germany
Starts video frantically sweating. Please oh please say I'm still relevant with my g85 hahah I still haven't decided if I want another system for my norway trip this summer or if I should upgrade my lens lineup, Great overview!
@@1fareast14 I was kidding haha. It is foolish to not admit tech gets dated and has limitations. I just enjoy talking gear :P G85 is fantastic for what I do and would still be for 80% of people :)
I'm torn between the gh5 and the a7iii Biggest concern with the gh5 is low light and low megapixel count for stills And on the other hand, for video it's pretty much the best for the price, especially after the AF update. I'm a very hybrid shooter, about 50-50 between video and stills. What is your input on this matter?
Answer to that be too complicated for a single comment, as always it depends on your style, workflow, look that you want to achieve and importantly the lens selection for both system.
Panasonic M43 is not popular and seem like there’s not much support in my country, Malaysia, so should I still get it? Olympus is more visible in camera store here but I prefer Lumix if I really want a M43
i hope the pressure from FF and smartphone cam motivate the m43 to implement those computational photo tech like in-cam image stacking in the dedicated camera world.
@@TheHybridShooter Phase One does image stacking in-body and it doesn't look like a gimmick. So it would be welcome. Anyway Panasonic has to do something to keep up with full frame cameras.
If you mean high-resolution stacking, that is indeed great technology for professional cameras. Computational photography is mostly associated with in-camera HDR stacking, so I was referring to that as a gimmick.
Agreed. With very fast sensor readout, the camera could shoot several pictures in a slit second and combine them for lower noise. I know older models already do this, but it is quite slow and quirky.
Again thank you for your opinions and review. I agree with all you have said in your review. The question is will Panasonic move ahead with new version of the gh5 and G9? These are terrific cameras, but they are old models, at this date. However; no doubt, they still take excellent photos. The size of these cameras make them so easy to use and travel with. The GX9 is my go to street photography camera.
Nice review, particularly from your experience using these cameras for a number of years. Unfortunately, M43 camera bodies have gotten larger and heavier, to the point where APSC and Sony FF A7 series cameras are either the same size or slightly smaller (Sony). This trend takes away from the original reason for M43 and that is size. Even the latest lens, because of their specs, are larger and heavier. The perfect M43 size and ergonomics that I have experiences with is my Olympus EM10 Mk3. Somehow they crammed all the controls I use, where I like them in a very compact package. This is my everyday, most used camera other than my smartphone. I have several lens that fit inside a small drawer. The kit lens is ok. But the 12-60 is just incredible!! Thanks for the review.
Great review of the micro-four-third system mainly focus from a hybrid shooter standpoint. I agree that the video side of mft is still their strength. But they need the upgrade the low light capability by redesigning their sensor. Fuji APS-C camera will be their biggest competitor. Keep those video coming.
Does the G9 have smooth aperture changes for exposure when shooting in shutter priority? Or does it change in steps like the GH4? I pan a lot when shooting moving subjects and use this setting to blur the back ground. I'm looking to purchase the G9 and the newest version of the Panasonic 14-140 lens. Thank you
Tough question: $800 Panasonic Lumix GX9 M43 vs $700 Fujifilm X-T200 APS-C for travel and for smartphone-upgraders? Both with kit lenses. This is for an older father who's desperate to upgrade past a Galaxy S8 in quality & zoom, but also afraid of the complexity to get reliably focused, well-exposed photos & videos from a modern ILC camera.
Heh funny... I just bought GH5 + V-Log + SIGMA 16mm f/1,4 DC DN. It's 2020 and this old thing is doing amazing job! Btw... I was thinking about your accent. I had strong feel you have some Czech roots... I used power of great Google and hell yeah! Je to kluk s českými kořeny. 😄 Great video btw!
Good overview. I think they definitely need to add to the faster lens line up while keeping the cost low. As the competition with bigger sensors have caught up, it gives little incentive to buy a speed booster to find get the equivalent f stop from a larger sensor, whilst those slower lenses at the f-stop equivalent (of the aps-c) are going to be cheaper...especially without a speed booster. Not to mention using speed booster may impact AF improvements from newer firmware.
That is not possible. Fast M43 lenses will always be more expensive than FF lenses, because they have to be ready for super-high pixel density. That is one of the reasons why the futures isn't very bright for M43.
Hey I love those awesome shots you shared. What techniques d you use to get those sharp shots? is it possible to see what settings you clicked those pictures at? Were they High Res/tripod shots? I have the 12-35 F2.8 Panasonic Mark I and I was becoming disappointed in the wide end shots I seem to click with my G9 and that lens combination. I have always felt the lack of detail when I am at 12mm. If you could share your techniques, I would really appreciate it. As I am sure others might also.
I'm still dying over the decision of going GH9 (now) - i have several other m43 lenses and cams, or ... WAIT for XT-4. I've seen some worrisome stories about magenta banding in 4K 10 bit, which has me waffling again... why is this so difficult???
I just bought lumix g85 this day and it's on delivery. After comparing apsc vs mft i just love what mft can offer for the price range. And converting from canon apsc maybe not so easy to adapt but i'll try. But i just need to convinced more with g85, is my choice in this 2020 right with this camera? I mainly do both world of photography and videography. Especially for commercial and travel use. You can check type of my thing on my channel for references
How about gh5? It shoot with tremendous codec. And with speedbooster and sigma 18-35 conbo it can produce professional look and nobody just aware that is came from mft. See brynnorth video for the result. That's why i decide mft for long term.
I'm sticking to my GH5 for all of the reasons you mentioned, but the main one is using Olympus premium prime lenses, they're very small with pleasing bokeh
Ahoj, tocis super videa!
You won't believe this, after almost 3 years of original launch, the G9 was launched in India yesterday (May 30, 2020)...wanted to know if it still makes sense to buy in 2020. What interests me is compactness and cost of micro 4/3 system. I am interested in wildlife and bird photography. Please advise.
The Hybrid Shooter I can only consider myself advanced hobbyist with no intention to go pro! I occasionally post pictures on Instagram. What I need is compactness of the system that can fit my motorcycle tank bag. I plan to either get 100-300 or 100-400 with it along with maybe 20-60 and 8-18 and maybe a prime.
@@TheHybridShooter The Olympus bodies are boring, but their f1.2 prime lenses are beautiful instruments with a manual focus clutch. The 17, 25 and 45mm are pretty much the reason I still use M43, and on a GH5 they are pretty much the perfect video solution in a reasonably sized package.
@@TheHybridShooter yeah but then you lose the GH5s far superior IBIS and 10 bit codecs. I used to have the Sigma 18-35 with speedbooster, but it's far too front heavy, not weather sealed, and the video autofocus (if you need it) is totally unusable. I used to think the 1.2 lenses were pointless until I tried the 25...it's a perfect.GH5 partner.
Yes, but you gain FF sensor, low light, flawless autofocus, shallower DoF and better image quality due to lower pixel density on FF sensor, which is a better option than GH5 + Oly Pro lenses for me personally, so I went that way.
Micro Four Thirds still has some place in the video space, but as a stills format it has never been great and in 2020 there are so many better options that you would never bother. I had an Olympus OM-D but got rid of it because, while nice and small the images quality was just not good enough
I’m curious, when you personally go out with friends or for traveling, and you want to shoot some video, what camera do you find yourself reaching for (regardless of the sensor size)?
Pre-amps in Panasonic cameras are better than in Sony cameras, the best of all mirrorless cameras. You can also get XLR helmets for hot shoe interface which is a huge advantage of Panasonic cameras.
Hello, I am curious what editing suite you use. Also your system. I tried editing 10bit 4k30 on my 2015 MacBook Pro and the footage was to overpowering for the system. My editing suite is Final Cut Pro X.
The Hybrid Shooter hello my friend, I am thinking to upgrade to x3900 because of my motherboard I can't upgrade to x3950. Do you think it would be enough to schnitt 4k/60p 10bit 4.2.2 video? Thank you for the flawless video as always:))
I edit 4K 60 on my iPad Pro with LumaFusion, no problem at all does 10bit 4K 30 like butter.. The iPad Pro is very powerful. You can save a lot of money by going with an iPad no more PCs for me.
What is your opinion about video quality at gx9? I am looking for a compact size hybrid shooter (video - photo) for travel and family Videos. I see that gx85 has very good ibis for video , but there are not so many reviews for gx9 regarding video quality. Evyreyone tell me to go for sony's , but has so complicated menu that is a no for me.
1080p is pretty good on GX9, 4K is quite poor due to additional crop. AF is also very poor in 4K and not great in 1080p. If you intend to shoot a lot of video, Sony really is better choice.
gx9 is 800$, a really hard sell at this prince IMO, especially when the g9 body is only 100$ more and a 6xxx can be had for around 500$. IMO for the gx10, they really need to get the price even lower, plus no crop for god sake. It's already a 2x crop, any additional crop is brutal. Panasonic should really be able to get 10bit recording on all these bodies and much more given the smaller sensor size. I wonder if they are holding back, to upsell their higher end models.
That is price with the kit lens though, here in Europe it is 600€ which is pretty good price. GX10 rumors were fake, so it is no clear whether it will announced at all.
Honestly I feel like Lumix has put MFT to the back and are not really focusing on pushing Full Frame with the S series cameras which is ashame. As good as the GH5 is we really need a GH6 with PDAF and other innovations. Right now Olympus OM-D gets no love in the MFT space yet they have much better and more unique lenses and the best IBIS even ahead of the G9. Either way I'm still more of an APS-C shooter and will be getting the XT4.
Switching to PDAF after so much work with DFD wouldn't be wise, they just need more processing power and faster readout to get rid of that last bit of hunting in difficult situation. There are some good reasons why Olympus gets no love....
@@TheHybridShooter I want to agree with this on the development of DFD focus and hopefully you're right but honestly I have PDAF is the better system to work with.
I "downgraded" from APS-C (Nikon D5XXX) to a G80, and expected to have to eat an image quality loss. I can't say that I've lost so much. Yes, I lost 8 megapixels in resolution, but only about one stop of dynamic range. And I gained a lot in the switch: IBIS, fantastically better video capability, and much smaller and sharper lenses. The sharper lenses came from buying newer ones like the 12-60 Pana kit lens and the 25mm f/1.7 - and not from Nikkor lenses being bad (they're absolutely not). I am reasonably happy with the transition.
Frankly, other than IBIS, which is rarely used in broad daylight, for a landscape photographer who wants to travel light, why would you recommend the Lumix over the Fuji XT-30? The Fuji has a vastly superior sensor and is smaller. It's a no brainer. I think M43 is going to stay great for dedicated video/movie cameras such as the Blackmagic etc...but with APS-C from Fuji becoming so great the allure of M43 for people who are mainly interested in photography is really not here anymore.
For landscapes I would probably go straight to the full frame for maximal DR, but for that specific use APS-C is better than M43 unless you use high-res mode on the G9.
There are multiple candidates currently, that we know of, for a new sensor for a GH camera: Sony IMX492LQJ 47MP sensor with 8K readout. It however looks to be photo orientated and does not have a fast readout. IMX594CQR a quad-bayer design with the potential for a 10.2MP full sensor readout (41MP/4=10.25MP) for oversampled 4K video. Hopefully this sensor is also a dual gain (a la GH5S) and has a fast enough readout for 4K120p. Personally I would like: improved IBIS 7 stops, a 6K 24/30p mode, quad-Bayer 4K mode for improved lowlight performance, 4K120p (pixel-binned is fine). At least GH5S level DR performance which is really quite good. A solid 12.5 stops would be a nice improvement (GH5S is 12 stops 1080p mode; 11.6 stops 4K)
Not necessarily. Olympus might prefer the existing 20.3 megapixels sensor for multiple reasons. All the STARVIS sensors are made for industrial customers but all it takes is a camera customer to want one
Well, nobody knows for sure, but I see no reason why Olympus would prefer that older sensor. Especially when both FF and APS-C sensors use more modern BSI design. No new M43 sensor available is more likely option IMO.
hey wiliam. i think many hybridshooters would be happy to see a video about the S pro16 35 f4 in combination with the Lumix s1. that would make us really happy. dearest greetings to slovakia
@@forgottenpotato9868 I faced the pana/sony choice and went gx85. Sony grip did not agree with me. Consider whether you will actually use the kit zooms, mine are gathering dust after getting a set of primes. It may be worth getting gx85 used with 15, 17, or 20mm instead.
I'm not sure. In my opionion there are two kinds of MFT cameras/systems: rangefinder style "bricks" and bigger DSLR-like cameras. Problem of smaller cameras is lack of proper grip and they feel unbalanced with heavier, longer lens. I can't comment on grip cause I never had GX85 in hand, but I replaced GF1 by G5 cause 12-35mm/f2.8 was already too heavy for GF1. I still like and sometimes use GF1, but with 20mm/f1.7 or Oly 45mm/f1.8. Because now I have G85 it's significantly better than GF1 in every way, but it feels like twice bigger camera. Actually ... G85 with 12-35/f2.8 or 12-60/f3.5-5.6 is twice bigger and heavier than GF1 with small fixed lenses. But ... for that price?
@@TheHybridShooter Can you make a video about what to expect from Panasonic?? I'm about to upgrade my gear and I don't know if I should just go for the g9 or wait for the upcoming cameras..
@@markmeszaros76 I'm about same situation, still love low profile of my GX8 but recently need more video function for my work.On the cross road of high hope and wait for gx8 successor or go big with good deal G9.
I heard the rumors about 41 MP sensor too. Hope they don't go in that direction. I would much rather have more DR and better high ISO performance over more pixels. If they would bring out a G10 (ever even better: a GX10 to quickly make us forget about the GX9) with BSI sensor then it would be an instant buy for me. But I am also a bit on the fence. MFT is a great system but for the price of a E-M1 iii you can also buy a Sony A7iii or other FF cameras. Add a couple of Tamron lenses and you have a wonderful FF system for the same money as a M43 setup. So do you want portability and the best IBIS or stunning image quality?!?
I can say that both rumors about 41 mpix and GX10 are completely false. E-M1 III uses too much outdated technology, I certainly wouldn't go that way at the moment.
@@TheHybridShooter Well the E-M1 iii is a very fine camera but not at that price point. That's Olympuses main problem: they don't know how to price their cameras properly and inovation is also no their strong suit.
I don't think so to be honest. That EVF and display are unacceptable, there is also no 4K 60p and only one UHS-II slot. Personally, I wouldn't be interested in E-M1 III at any price point, but I wouldn't mind reviewing it.
I agree on future camera specs, 8 k is less useful than other features. At same time Panasonic has to push fast forward if they want to sell mft. To have 6k on ff and not on mft would be a clear negative signal
What I don't understand is basically every year since Micro Four Thirds came out, there are people writing articles and making videos saying "Micro Four thirds is dead" Why the hate? I usually use APS-C cameras, but I have a Micro Four Thirds camera, and I don't get the hate.
I don't think that it is hate. The lack of innovation since 2016 is now clearly visible, and it is evident that the manufacturers themselves are not very interested in keeping M43 alive.
Would be nice to also hear from you about non Panasonic (error olympus) cameras especially since olympus has been posting out more new products than Panasonic
There is actually not much to talk about there, E-M1 III uses a lot of seriously outdated parts such as EVF and display, E-M5 III is also made of older components, so I am not very interested in latest Olympus cameras.
@@TheHybridShooter I had both of them for a short time, then GH5 was sold. They are different in AWB and shadow colour cast (GH5 is better, G9 is "purplish" even after AWB adjustments), they are very similar in noise performance at Iso200 and 3200. iso100 on G9 is touch better, but that could be just error. I didn't check the other settings.
I moved from a G85 (with the 18-35, such a rad combo!) to an A7III with Sigma primes. Although I love the look I get now, I can't help but want a GH5 in my arsenal!
The GH5 and GH5S could very well be given a new lease of life when a possible GH6 arrives, made possible by Panasonic and Atomos giving them ProRes Raw on a NinjaV. I would also like to see them given a linear focussing ability on lenses. For video in smaller formats with pro video features, nothing beats them even today. Yes, for those that need great video autofocus, they should look elsewhere! 🙏🏾
It would keep the camera ahead of any competition in its class. I remember watching Atomos at trade shows mentioning that it was technically possible over HDMI when they first announced their collaboration with Apple and the introduction of Apple ProRes, this was way before anyone even thought that Panasonic would go FF. I would pay for an upgrade if needed, wouldn’t you? 😄🙏🏾
I don't think that Panasonic wants to keep 3 years old cameras ahead of competition. The will introduce new camera if they want to offer RAW recording in Lumix G line.
I really appreciate your channel and perspective on these systems. I love the G9 for so many reasons, and I also have a GX85, but like you stated, I do feel a little concerned with the lenses having that special quality. I have an Olympus 45mm 1.2 pro lens and a Sigma 16mm. Have you tried those? I think the Olympus might be might favorited. It's always a little tempting, however to want to go for bigger sensors and Fuji brings a special quality to things. Anyway, thanks for the great video and let me know if you've considered those Olympus Pro primes.
I have briefly tried Olympus F1.2 lenses, but bought Sony GM prime lenses for full frame instead. Those basically cost the same and they are much more special, so I have never considered buying any Olympus F1.2 Pro lens. I have only tested Sigma 16mm on APS-C.

@@TheHybridShooter it's relevant in terms of video features. that's why Olympus is not as good when it comes to video. most professional video is done by video cameras, not SLR. the SLR community is benefitting from the company's ability to transfer video tech from one department to another .
@@kazukinakamura1110 On the other hand, Fujifilm or even Nikon have almost no history in video and they were able to catch Sony and Panasonic in only one generation, so I dont think that the history is that important for making new video cameras nowadays.
@@TheHybridShooter I agree with you on Nikon, however, Fuji has a long history in pro video. It's not easy to do professional video so yes having deep knowledge is important. If this were an American company, sure I can agree, you can just acquire the talent or IP. But that doesn't work so easily in Japan. People do not switch companies that often or so easily.
There is probably a lot of technology sharing between the Japanese companies, everybody except the Canon uses Sony sensors made by Nikon machines anyway. Either way, Fuji and Nikon have caught up, so the history doesn't seem to be an advantage any longer.
I don’t know if this is normal for TH-camrs, but someone is stealing and reposting your videos under some random accounts. Just wanted to let you know.
Olympus has some F1.2 PRO primes if you are interested, and Panasonic produces the 42.5 F1.2 Leica. They should be awesome optically! Do you have any information about future developments of M4/3? It looked like you hinted at something in the video. As always, great video.
Thank you! Honestly, I don't get Olympus F1.2 lenses. At that price and size, I would definitely go with full frame. 42.5 is a great lens, but I don't shoot portraits. Yes, I have some information about M43 development.

Flawless video as usual! My friends, few days ago, got me a g85 w/12-60 kit as a gift for my graduation! Hope it stills a good options for years coming! Greetings from Italy, keep it up!!
I LOVE mine.
It gets so much better when you get a prime lens for portraits and low light too! :D
If you do portraits you need to take a look at the Sigma 56mm f1.4... For a prime walk around the sigma 16mm f1.4 is also excellent

Me too!!! :)
@ARC FPV I'm waffling between G9 (since I have several m43 lenses) or wait for XT-4. I'm loving the G9 afterntrh firmware update!
Would you buy GH5 today like right now or go another direction?
@@Clickumentary Personally I would buy another G9. I prefer the body and the tradeoffs don't effect me much. It's also a better stills camera by far.
@@bananapie2198 I got the G9! Love it. The choice came down to Lumix S5 (which I had pre-ordered for several weeks and then bailed on) or the G9. Not as great with low light as S5 of course, but an amazing value!
I bought the G9 when it was new and haven't regretted it. The video and photo quality is simply awesome.
Same here honestly, I just wish the g9 had dual native iso like the gh5s.
You are the only camera "reviewer" I totally trust on TH-cam. Your videos are so good and so authentic that I just enjoy watching them regardless.
Thank you, I appreciate your trust in my reviews!
I hope Panasonic don't focus on 8k for GH series, completely unnecessary for most people. Give us better low light, higher frame rates and better usability like USB power, OLED screen etc
So do I.
Thank you, I am glad that you are happy with your G9.
I will probably do that at some point in the future.
Thank you, I am glad that you like my videos!
Thank you!
This is an excellent video and a great synopsis of the current state of MFT in 2020. I still like to use my G85 and GX85, although I love the GX9 colours in your photos and videos. I can really see the improvements in colour science Panasonic made with that ‘new-ish’ sensor and processor.
m43 is pretty cool, coming from fullframe i dont see any problem with smaller senor, i quite like it, and gh5 is simply a beast!
Same here. I even "downgraded" to g95 and in 99% of pictures don't miss ff.
Real happy in the M43 universe with both Olympus/Panasonic bodies/lenses!
Wait til you try out some third party lenses too. Sigma's got a fine range of fast affordable primes.
Ah, the beautiful Bardejov! Used my GX9 there... Super video..as ever!
Thank you!
Depends on the lens. < f/2.8 it resembles FF.
@@DeepteshLovesTECH No, there is no F1.7 M43 zoom.

Thank you for this. Great video as usual. I thought you would mention the Panasonic FF system and who should consider an S camera. Maybe next video?
I already made a couple of videos about that, all Lumix S videos are in this playlist: th-cam.com/video/GudzImLY8eI/w-d-xo.html
Please oh please say I'm still relevant with my g85 hahah I still haven't decided if I want another system for my norway trip this summer or if I should upgrade my lens lineup,
Great overview!
You don't need to be told your camera is relevant. If it does what you need, then no need to feel insecure.
@@1fareast14 I was kidding haha. It is foolish to not admit tech gets dated and has limitations. I just enjoy talking gear :P G85 is fantastic for what I do and would still be for 80% of people :)
Thank you, that depends on what are you looking for, G85 is still more than sufficient for personal use / online content.
I'm torn between the gh5 and the a7iii
Biggest concern with the gh5 is low light and low megapixel count for stills
And on the other hand, for video it's pretty much the best for the price, especially after the AF update.
I'm a very hybrid shooter, about 50-50 between video and stills.
What is your input on this matter?
Answer to that be too complicated for a single comment, as always it depends on your style, workflow, look that you want to achieve and importantly the lens selection for both system.
@@TheHybridShooter I guess the sony wins in that aspect
Panasonic M43 is not popular and seem like there’s not much support in my country, Malaysia, so should I still get it? Olympus is more visible in camera store here but I prefer Lumix if I really want a M43
Depends on what you intend to use it for, what are your expectations, what lenses do you intend to use and so on.
Thanks for a great summary video. Still love my GX9 and trying to sort out the best three lens to use for travel.
i hope the pressure from FF and smartphone cam motivate the m43 to implement those computational photo tech like in-cam image stacking in the dedicated camera world.
Maybe in the lower end cameras, but for GH series users, computational photography is just a gimmick.
Hello my friends👏🏿👏🏿
Hello!
I make videos about the G9 also, but I gotta give you props man, this is a great Video, and very informative!
Thank you!
This is actually a very informative video on the Panasonic system and valuable for anyone thinking of investing
Thank you!
What's your opinion on the system now that Olympus has been sold off?
I don't really know, Panasonic's latest releases were very underwhelming as well, so I am not very optimistic about M43.
Thank you
Yes, it is very smooth on both GH5 and G9.
@@TheHybridShooter Thank you!
At 5:25 you say that the GH5 is the only mirrorless camera with no crop 4k 60p. Aren't you forgetting about the G9?
Nice look at the current state of the micro four thirds photography. And I agree with most of what you said.
You make fantastic videos brother

Panasonic is by far the best for video/vlogging/affordable quality
Not anymore.
@@TheHybridShooter Ok I did not know why they were more expensive in general
Hey I love those awesome shots you shared. What techniques d you use to get those sharp shots? is it possible to see what settings you clicked those pictures at? Were they High Res/tripod shots? I have the 12-35 F2.8 Panasonic Mark I and I was becoming disappointed in the wide end shots I seem to click with my G9 and that lens combination. I have always felt the lack of detail when I am at 12mm.
If you could share your techniques, I would really appreciate it. As I am sure others might also.
That always depends on the situation. I use ISO as low as possible, aperture depends on the lens. There are no high-res of tripod shots in this video.
I'm still dying over the decision of going GH9 (now) - i have several other m43 lenses and cams, or ... WAIT for XT-4. I've seen some worrisome stories about magenta banding in 4K 10 bit, which has me waffling again... why is this so difficult???
You are the best.
Thank you!
It's difficult to keep the models straight - which is which? Is there a naming strategy?
Not really.
Can't wait to the next move Panasonic gonna make with m43... Good video as always.
Neither can I, although I have to say that I am bit worried.
@DeepteshLovesTECH it is a bit more complicated.
Great job on the state of M43👍

I'm sticking to my GH5 for all of the reasons you mentioned, but the main one is using Olympus premium prime lenses, they're very small with pleasing bokeh

@@TheHybridShooter No I don't' mean the pro lenses, they're too heavy for my taste. I mean the premium ones that weigh 100-130g

Depends on what kind of wildlife of bird photography what are the alternatives, what lenses would you use and so on...
Still depends on what do you intend to do with it. For example, for birds in flight or low light shooting it is still not good enough.
How about a State of The System featuring the Olympus product lineup?
I have explained why I only use Panasonic, Olympus lineup is not very interesting for me, especially after disappointing E-M1 III release.
Honestly, I don't get Olympus F1.2 lenses. At that price and size, I would go with Sony F1.4 GM full frame lenses instead... (I actually did that).
If I wanna make 4K music videos, would a micro 4/3, would the Panasonic g90 be a good choice to begin?
No, that is very bad 4K camera due to huge crop and below average 4K video quality.
@@TheHybridShooter what camera do you think would be better?
You should review some adapted konica lenses. I feel like you would like using them.
I’m curious, when you personally go out with friends or for traveling, and you want to shoot some video, what camera do you find yourself reaching for (regardless of the sensor size)?
I usually use camera that I am reviewing at the time. Otherwise I would use Sony A7 III.
How are the preamps in the Panasonics? The superb preamps of the Sony's are the only reason why I can't leave it for Micro four thirds...
Pre-amps in Panasonic cameras are better than in Sony cameras, the best of all mirrorless cameras. You can also get XLR helmets for hot shoe interface which is a huge advantage of Panasonic cameras.

I like them all. I wish I could own all of them. However, the G9 looks to be the best camera, with the best features, for the money.
@@HarryPowerColt No new sensor in E-M1 III, very poor EVF and display, only one UHS-II slot, no 4K 60p, no 10-bit and so on...
@@TheHybridShooter I want to agree with this on the development of DFD focus and hopefully you're right but honestly I have PDAF is the better system to work with.
PDAF works better at the moment, but I have seen some very cool demos of future DFD technology.
@@TheHybridShooter interesting. Can't wait to see
I "downgraded" from APS-C (Nikon D5XXX) to a G80, and expected to have to eat an image quality loss.
I did the same in 2017 (D5500 for G80) and I was also very happy with switch to mirrorless.
Loved the preview
Thank you!
It can go either way. 16-55mm F2.8 is very reasonably sized for what it does, equivalent 12-35mm F2 M43 lens wouldn't be smaller.
There are multiple candidates currently, that we know of, for a new sensor for a GH camera:
Sony IMX492LQJ 47MP sensor with 8K readout.
I am afraid that if there was a new sensor available to 3rd parties, Olympus would wait to release E-M1 III with that sensor.
Unfortunately, I don't have the review unit anymore, so I am not able to do that.
Interest in L-mount gear on this channel is actually very low.
Would you recommend buying the gx85 as a budget camera? It's around 530 dollars and comes with 2 lenses (12-35 and 45-150mm).
Depends on how much would you pay for Sony A6000 or A6100.
@@TheHybridShooter Damn they're right around the price point I want. I'll definitely check them out!
Looking forward to the GX10!
I am sorry, but GX10 rumors are fake.
Yeah, I am afraid that Panasonic will try to protect their more expensive FF cameras by not giving M43 everything they can.
When are they going to update the GX9?
Not anytime soon.
Does the g9 have a crop when recording 4k 60p?
No, it doesn't.
They need a GH5s with IBIS, no crop in any shooting modes, and phase detect AF. Priced around 2.5k~3k I'm sure people will buy it...
I'm not, the price would be too close to A7S III.
In terms of image quality is the gh5 better or different than the g9 ?
almost the same
There are some difference in colors and dynamic range, but it is quite similar.
Ok and the gh5s from both of them ?
@@A1Bokeh That is very different package.
Great video :)
Thank you!
Excellent info!
Thank you!
M43 has a lot of great glasses.
But m43 bodies is too behind compare to other system.
Really wish Panasonic can release some new M43 cameras in 2021.
Great vid!
Thank you!
I moved from a G85 (with the 18-35, such a rad combo!) to an A7III with Sigma primes. Although I love the look I get now, I can't help but want a GH5 in my arsenal!
Can't believe that My Lumix G85 is still Awesome !!!!!!
It is a good camera at that price point, but I wouldn't call it awesome.
@@randykamindo4795 Well, it is quite obvious that M43 is a dead system, if you want go full frame, Sony E-mount is the best option.
@@randykamindo4795 take a look at my review.
It is very unlikely that they would enable RAW for free more than 3 years after the release.
We shall see! 😁🙏🏾
can you compare panasonic gh5s vs fuji xt4?
I unfortunately can't.
@@TheHybridShooter how about gh5s vs xt3? i believe that xt3 and xt4 are quite similar except for the IBIS.
I currently don't have GH5S or any Fuji camera, so I can't do that either.
@@TheHybridShooter I see. Thank you anyway. you make amazing videos.
Thank you!
I have only tested Sigma 16mm on APS-C.
thank you for the video
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
Ahoj. Nejaký názor na Olympusy?
Hi. Opinions on Olympus?
Zobrali Pro úroveň funkcionality M1 Mk II, kompaktnosť M10 a "hipster faktor" z Pen F a dali to všetko M5.
Keep in mind that Panasonic has a long history of professional video gear. Both them and Sony used to dominate that market.
Of course, both have great history, but that is not very relevant when choosing a new camera.
Thank you, I am aware of that, I have already issues take down notice. Unfortunately, it is normal.
@@TheHybridShooter totally agree, I prefer f1.7 primes over f1.2 for the same reasons.
Hope they are good news then!
