For me, this is Pink Floyd at their absolute prime. Yeah they still hadn’t released their four most famous albums, but they are sooooo in sync here. Was there a better psychedelic band ever? They did metal on a few songs in 1969 before/around the same time as Black Sabbath. The funk groove on this? The experimentation? There’s a reason some of us think they were the greatest band of all times. Why their music still sounds so fresh 50 years later. I can never decide if they are just from a different time and space, if they’re otherwordly, or whatever, but it is timeless.
Agreed, certainly as a group of musicians they are at their absolute peak here, as composers I would day they peaked a little later, during the Dark side/wish/animals era
Alot of their sound was derived from ww2. Roger lost his father during the war and they all grew up during reconstruction. The uk took such a heavy toll from the German bombardment. Just like the original blues players in america and the connection to their experience from having slave parents
I don't think Pink Floyd would have been anything without the genius of David Gilmour and Rick Wright! I know Waters wrote some words but since Gilmour had to help him with bass as well, clearly the musical genius is Gilmour and Wright!
@@detroitlady7201 I'm thinking Waters did more than "write some words" , I mean I love all floyd but the waters era floyd is much superior, I mean no 'the wall" at all without waters at the very least
@@joseureste8257 well yes and no, here in the UK the German bombing was heavy but restricted to a few critical cities, London, Plymouth, Coventry, Sheffield wtc mostly steel towns or ports. The effect was mostly psychological on the general population, as well as the threat of invasion and the entry of so many fathers into the army, of whom 400,000 never came back
Maybe I'm "sensitive," but I can't help it. Every time I hear this (and I've heard it a thousand times) I feel completely blissful. My throat tightens a little, my heart races a little, and I smile a little at the same time. Do you know it?
You might've already read about it, but David Gilmour said he'd never play Echoes again after Rick had passed in 2008. So their last performance of Echoes was in Gdansk in 2006. Watch it maybe not for a reaction video but for yourself. Hits me every time, especially the ending part.
@@LILJ_303 Given Pompeii was buried in 79AD, this "gig" was the first performance of any kind in that arena for nearly 2,000 years! I've been listening to Pink floyd for 50yrs, I've never appreciated this song as much as I do now listening with you, I love all your Pink Floyd reactions, Run like Hell Pulse concert remastered, another new experience
Have you seen the Primus cover of the Pink Floyd song: "Have a Cigar"? Primus is not always the easiest band for everyone. They are very avante garde on purpose. That cover is quite awesome though, in my opinion.
Was in Pompeii over the summer the same day the archeological site hosted a concert celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pink Floyd recording and playing at the 2,000 year old amphitheater. Didn’t know it was going on and obviously couldn’t get tickets but could hear the music blasting through the streets just like they did when they first played there. Had to make the best of it. Posted up at a nearby cafe a block or two away. David Gilmour was a musical inspiration for many including myself. One of the greatest rock bands in history.
It's funky, jazzy, bluesy, dirty groovy...it's multidimensional. It has the two things you need for excellent modern music. Varied and well constructed melody/harmony and lyrics that are both metaphorical and straight forward. Straight excellent.
This song + Dark Side = Two incontestable masterpieces that taste great together. Floyd working at a level so high I don't think even they understood it.
Great to see how your discovering prog rock a half century later. Floyd was one of the best and there's lots more. My I suggest a band called Yes and their song called Roundabout. Your gonna love the prog funk grove. 🙏🍁
All the images of people whose bodies were covered in the ash from the eruption of the volcano. It created cast-like molds. Amazing. This is one of my favorite Pink Floyd live sessions. Also David Gilmour playing guitar with his shirt off - swoon!
Homie, that was so much out of this freaking world! I got that album. But I don't remember it here sounding like that. I'm going to have to break it out again. Haven't actually heard it in years.
This was my intro to Pink Floyd, couple days later I bought my 1st ever album..Dark side if the moon.. 1973. We useta hang out at a place called Record Head, they sold and played albums and paraphernalia. We became known as "Heads" ✌
Do yourself a huge favor and listen to "Careful With That Ax Eugene" on this Pink Floyd live at Pompeii! And for a real eclectic crazy song play "A Saucer Full of Secrets" from the same deal!! It's kind of a two-part song and Both of those songs will have unexpected delightful surprises! Also an interesting thing if you have the DVD Pink Floyd live at Pompeii interspersed throughout the movie/documentary are bits and pieces of Dark Side of the Moon that they were recording while they were filming this!
Really dig your reactions man, watching someone discover my all-time favorite band is almost like hearing it for the first time again. If you're loving Pink Floyd, you should check out some Led Zeppelin -- highly recommend the song No Quarter
Please react to more of the Pompeii stuff! Especially 'Set the controls for the heart of the sun', and 'Careful with that axe Eugene' ( the Brighton Dome version from 72 is even better) will definitely blow your mind! Those were the more dark Floyd, very much different to what they did later on. I'm sure, you will like it (especially if Mary joins and supports you again while reacting)
In my opinion, this is the best piece of music ever recorded. So full of emotions and pictures and feelings... things that you can see with your eyes closed and your hair in orbit. So blessed to have seen it and felt it and blended it into me. And this is the best live performance I've ever seen and I've seen tons of them. And you are blessed too, now. Just keep being blessed! Happy new year!
I recently seen Drummer Nick Mason Band “A Saucerful of Secrets” perform Echoes and many pre Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd.. They were excellent and only covered the material mentioned previously. The band was and is a direct link to this era of Pink Floyd and I recommend seeing them live…
Love this video, so great to see them so young 50 years ago, and to see they have the same movements, tilt of the head ect, apart from Rick on keyboards who died of cancer, they are all still playing music. Another favourite of mine is Any Colour You Like, live at Brighton 1975, they have lots of versions of it, but this one is stripped back, Nick's drummimg is amazing. They are of my age so we have grown old together!
I saw them in New Jersey when this first came out. Then with dsotm... then Wywh... always an encore... The last time I saw it was with David Gilmore and by then it just so intense. Rip Richard Wright

Not sure if you listened to the album Animals yet but I'd love a reaction to that. It's one I didn't appreciate enough until I had gotten a bit older.
I saw this movie in the theater in 1979 when it was titled “Dark Side of the Moon”. It was a midnight showing. The screen was a bit foggy to say the least and beer cans were rolling down the floor. What a great time!
