Why did it take the cammer to wait til the truck hit something before he braked?
I mean it was obvious the moment the truck started merging leftwards that you'd be well-advised to slow down.
Strange and there was nobody in front either so he could have easily overtaken and slotted back in, it's safer to get your overtakes DONE and then return to your cruise control speed, rather than sit aware less at a constant speed no matter if you are gaining on other road users at a slow rate.
Being alongside other vehicles drastically increases your risk. So get your moves DONE or HOLD BACK don't do what this driver does and react to nothing whilst minutely approaching other traffic.
If he was further alongside this truck he wouldn't have been as able to avoid this crash.

You said it perfectly, always work to not be alongside other vehicles when possible, I break the speed limit often so I can be isolated from human error of other drivers, my accident history doesn’t exist because I don’t blindly obey laws that can’t possibly account for all scenarios.

Although I don't use the motorway, the risk of lorries is why I either slip back into the left lane behind the lorry (only slower vehicles tend to use it anyway) or, and this is more common, overtake (as they're usually doing under 70) quickly and get the heck away from them. And as I pass, I'm ready to either blare the horn or speed up, even if means speeding, to get out the way if they haven't checked their blind spot and start changing lanes.

I've done loads of motorway driving on the M5 and M4 and I know the feeling. I've seen them swerve all over the place because of high winds, they also just pull out without even checking their mirrors which I've had most often. A few times nearly clipping my car, one time I was in the middle lane and one lorry came rushing off the slip road and pulled out right in front of me to overtake another lorry.

One of them being whether he took proper rest before his this shift, how far has he driven 8n this journey cos potentially he could've driven 9hours with only 45min break, his general health, eye sight and if he was on some sort of medication etc
