This is my first reaction to the national selection from The Netherlands for Junior Eurovision 2024

I agree with you, this is probably a ‘weak’ year if you look at the songs. Definitely lyrics wise. I’m kind of sad for Ruben, he has an amazing voice but his song is not very good. Lyrics wise as well. For me the song ‘Music’ has so many elements it’s too much. I do like the chorus of In me prime, but yes the lyrics are kind of .. I’m hoping Veronika will win, I love her song. And she sings beautifully. She actually won Ukraine’s got talent when she was very young and was in the final of The Voice Kids Ukraine. Definitely check out her ‘Raise me up’ performance. And there is an amazing video of her singing with Go_A. So I think she will be even better when she sings her song live. But I do wish that they would do the casting of the kids like in France. Pick a group or a soloist and put all their energy on delivering the strongest song and performance. For example with Zoe, her dress, her staging, her videoclip everything was perfect. With the Netherlands it feels like they just put kids together in a group, maybe even have the song already, give them a cringy name and song and hope for the best… I think France will choose Lucie to perform for France this year, she was in the voice kids like all the other French contestants

Robert Dorn, the songwriter for Best Friends, La Festa, and Holding On To You, isn’t participating as a songwriter this year. I think that’s why this year is weak
i was really sad when he told me he didnt submit a song for jsf :( he doesnt want a song of his to take part in a contest which is controlled by the ebu in the current state it's in

Ik ben het met je eens dat de selectie moet zijn als vroeger en dat deze selectie niet de sterkste is. Ik vind Stay Tuned & Veronika heel leuk. Hidde, Saida & Dunyah ook wel maar mijn voorspelling is dat Veronika gaat winnen
Veronika is by far het beste. Zeker ook met haar achtergrond
volgensmij bedoelen ze met in mn prime dat je op een soort gelukswolk zit, in dit geval een soort liefdes wolk. Gewoon dat je je heel goed voelt en geniet van alles ofzo. Is volgensmij gezegd in 1 van de video’s van jsf. Ik denk in die van de postcards.

“Prime” betekent on top/in je comfort zone.
Verder vertel je over het zelf schrijven van de nummers. Dit mag niet meer omdat kinderen volgens de wet geen volledig eigendom mogen zijn van het nummer ivm geld verdienen. Als je 12 bent is het weer andere regels onders dat hebben ze besloten het zelf te gaan schrijven ook omdat toen der tijd steeds minder aanmeldingen waren door dat de voice kids populairder werd.
Veronika is wel echt de beste zangeres. Haar liedje vind ik toch wel tof zeker dat lage stukje. Er zit ook een prachtige boodschap achter haar persoonlijke verhaal.
Ik was altijd terughoudend, wat betreft het herintroduceren van het zelf liedjes schrijven. Dit omdat ik bang was dat we daarmee niet mee konden komen met de andere landen. Inmiddels geloof ik niet meer dat we er slechter van worden als het wordt teruggebracht.

I actually like balads and my favorite song among all of them is Ruben’s one but I think the one that could possibly win the contest is the common song 😂

Thanks for the video - it's officially Junior Eurovision season! Last year was the first year I really paid attention to the JESC, and what I noticed was that top of table were upbeat songs with dancers. So, while the selection is good, I think if the Netherlands want to do well, they should send 'In m'n Prime' (and also change the title ;-)) and dancers.

100% agree that writing the songs yourself should be an option again. With Veronica you definitely miss the Ukrainian text pieces. Missed opportunity by Avro/tros to include Ukrainian song writers. Now she has a song that is certainly not bad, but it could have been much more. And yes, the rest of the songs indeed have many similarities with songs from other years. It's time they started approaching other song writers as well.
This group of children has a lot of talent but you could have gotten so much more out of them.
Fortunately, we don't know yet what the acts will look like, there are still a lot of possibilities. Especially with the right clothes, especially Veronica, I hope to see something Ukrainian again.
It remains a pity that the songs are simply not very innovative, the Netherlands should have won 2 years in a row, so you indeed have the idea that there is no winning song.
But so much can still happen.

I like Stay Tuned and Hidde, Saida and Dunyah the most. The other both are to generic and unfortunately the Kids can't give all what they have in these songs. I like the many themes in the Song of Stay Tuned and I think this would perform very good. In m'n Prime have a catchy melody so this can perform good to. The other Songs are not strong enough I think.

In my prime I think it's a shame to come across as nagging...
i REALLY dislike all those songs ngl 😭 Ruben’s song is kiinda good to me, it’s got some interesting moments but nothing crazy, maybe with a revamp it would be better
