    This video is well over a year old. Any improvement in the app or firmware for the T-800?

    I purchased 6 T800s they work great within range. You first need to pair one T800 per phone. Label the T800 with a decal so you know which phone it is paired with. Using the Motorola Talkabout App is the key here. It works great. I’m not sure how you missed that. We use iPhones... get the app. Pair the phones to the respective T800s... easy and works great!!

    T800s and GoTenna Mesh are great and viable options for off grid communications.
    The experience you’ve had maybe bad devices or just simple user error. As others have pointed out, sync one phone first with your T800 as primary, then sync your next device each Walkie is bound to a single device. Label them, and then do the next. Keep your channels programmed on each device.
    GoTenna is by far the easiest method and like the T800 you’ll pair a single mesh with a single device to create your mesh points.

    Any changes in connectivity with the app? How was your real world use in a wooded area?

    • @SFMPreparedness
      @SFMPreparedness  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The app has worked from day one with no issues. Mesh to Mesh in car was about 1/2 mile and Mesh to Mesh outside car in woods was 3/4 to 1 mile. I placed 1 Mesh on power inside a structure we gained about 3/4 of a mile. between the two.

    I use the GOTENNA MESH, they work great. 1watt 900mhz encrypted frequency hopping.

      I bought a pair of Moto T800 a few days ago, and was able to easily pair it to two phones and send text messages between them. Incoming text messages display on the Apple Watch as well, as mentioned in the video. There’s a dedicated tab for chat in the app as well now, but it does take 10-30 seconds to send text messages too, depending on distance it seems.

      The Titan Preparedness Channel A great question. So far I haven’t been able to test this with a friend yet, so I can’t say in a real-world situation. I’d have to leave it at home (on a windowsill) drive a block or two away, and see if it sends successfully. When I tried them myself (from only a room away), it seemed to be able to tell whether or not the message sent, which would keep me from having to go home to check the receiving phone.

      @@titanpreparedness I read some of the reviews, and many say they're lucky if they get 5 miles, at most 1 or 2 miles. Tbh I'd buy both the t800, and the gotenna mesh, since relying on one form is like relying on a single engine aircraft when the engine fails. The mesh is small so it's not like you'd be dragging around that much more. Honestly I'd like to see the gotenna pro x series and see how those work. But I want something that can reach 20 miles easily, portable, and can use for gps as well as have a radio... but that's my military style desire... I'm a vet... I like range, reliable and long life battery.. even if it's a day hike...

    I am curious, what is the BEST walkie talkie with longest range? Or the best offline GPS locator/sharing? I'm wanting to buy one for hiking for myself and a friend

      Yes, but not at the same time. I have to unpair and repair. If I keep the same one paired it connects automatically when the app opens.

      @@SFMPreparedness hmm i thought the fcc specs said .75watts. Interesting. May have to taste another look.

      @nate40474047 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@FranklinBryan Yes Motorola T800 is .75 watts. Midland GXT1000 is a bit more interesting. Over the years the GxT1000 has undergone changes to its internals that have resulted in 2 new FCC filings. The model may look the same, but the printing on the backs of the radios will show a different FCC ID. From about 2009 to 2015 the GXT 1000 was labeled with an FCC ID: MMAGXT950 which lists 5.33 watts on the FCC website for GMRS channels. Then in 2015 the GXT1000 changed to FCC ID: MMAGXT1050P which lists power output at 3.07 watts on gmrs. Then, sadly in 2018 the FCC ID changed for the GXT1000 for a second time, resulting in lower power. For currently sold radios after spring 2018, radios only output a sad 2.5 watts. Look it up for yourself FCC ID: MMAGXT1050G.

      Garmin does have their Rino series. You can text and see where other Rino users are that you have added to your contacts, and it is a GMRS 5 watt radio.
