You are just demonstrating, the dry gardening method, this is how i do it where I live. I'm restricted for water as i only have tanks for all of my water. I mostly just use one watering can per garden bed once or twice a week. Happy gardening everyone around Australia and the world. Green love from Queensland Australia 💚🌲🌏🙏
Coconut fibre can mat and become hydrophobic, it needs to be really well blended and no more than 10% of the mix. You cant beat a watering spike in a 2 or 3 litre coke bottle for slow irrigation. You should scorch the timber boxes and then they dont let as much moisture through. The micro particles of the carbon also help the plants. Scorching also prevents rot mold fungus and mildew.
I've had trouble with hydration because of the huge tree in the yard behind us. I've now put in raised garden beds with the soaker hose inside aggi pipe at the root zone. Our tomatoes are doing very well so far and I have just planted corn on the other side of the aggi pipe so hopeful for a good crop. The soaker hose is set on a timer for a half hour every night. I also have netting over the flexi garden frame over the two garden beds.
Vasili throw in some clay pebbles the stuff they use for hydroponics I use it in all my plant mixes and have heaps of them in my soil you don’t even notice them and it’s even cheaper than a watering system works really well with coco I buy the pre-made bags look into it they’re the best..
ive built many raised gardens over a number of years. my first raised garden is 25 years old the black plastic (used in concrete slabs) is still whole and still retaining the moisture the gaps in the sleepers are half an inch but have no effect.
The black plastic is great for lining vertical garden beds but I removed all the (under gravel) lining from my 1970s front yard and the trees and shrubs have improved substantially in only one season.
When I have a hydrophobic bed I give it a light water in the evening and then the next morning it’s happy to have some more water. I do that twice a day for about 5-7 days using small amounts of water each time and wal-la it’s not hydrophobic. That way I don’t use too much water but a little bit of time and energy each time.
Just stumbled across your channel, man I can already tell I'm going to use up a LOT of time watching your stuff 😅. has anyone here in the comments (only asking as seem to have some really knowledgable comments!) used bamboo leaves as raised bed mulch? I'm going to try and use it by going over them with our mower on the concrete (to avoid picking up too many weed seeds with them), and using it. Thoughts?
If you can maintain one, and check it daily for flow and leaks, it will change your life and free up all that watering time. But dont get lazy, make sure you keep checking your plants like you would if hand watering.
So far so good at this end, the big malakas are 18 inches and still in pots. All the rest in the ground are good and Ive got a gross lisse with fruit the size of a tennis ball. Straw, lime, black grit, sheep shit, chicken shit, wood ash, go go juice eco booch and superfood. I havent added blood and bone yet.
I'm having an issue with my potted tomato plants producing heaps of flowers but no fruits. I'm watering them nearly everyday (not on cooler days, but definitely warmer days - on average 5 times a week) - am I under watering, or over watering? I've just added some potash to the soil, will this help?
Vasili this year for me it’s the year of the Earwig 🤦♂ things are driving me mad killed so many plants , I have to put them in big or these things will destroy them and they’re even active in the daytime they’re doing my head…
Equal parts canola oil and soy sauce, in a container with entry holes on side, leave lid on to protect from rain. I use old butter container. Works a treat 👌🏼
vasili, you’ve helped me with your advice on how to do and what not to do in the little raised bed I have ,but please please don’t ever show yourself wearing crocs, they are a breeding ground for fungal infections.now you say to keep your soil moist and the microbial will help your plants, crocs will also help fungus in between your toes and who knows you might have a big malaka growing in between them.maresi

I have just had a cage put over my vegetable patch due to the birds (which I love) digging up the garden!
I too built a walk-in cage over six raised garden beds and I am so happy that my mulch (and seedlings) now stay in place! 😄

Coco fibre works really well with clay pebbles I but the bags that are premixed for pots then feed them myself…

Watering system with timer as the gentleman below me said you’re all about making life easier..

It's my experience that Parsley uses the most amount of water. If you have Parsley in the soil it is always dry!
I put lots of pruned twigs or bigger over the mulch to stop the birds and it seems to work for me.
Vasili, put in a watering system on a timer !!!!!! Maresi
Great idea on a timer that’s how I do it..Maresi

Hi, what about the straw bale bed you made the other week, does it retain moisture ok?

Get yourself some weatherd or decomposed granite and incorporate it into the coco
drip system
Pitfalls of wooden raised beds. Amazing drainage, but you gotta flood the bastards and often!

I did exactly that and ended up with ants all over the garden and only 1 dead earwig. They are eating all my climbing beans and eggplant leaves 😢
