but where is the helmet? safety first for future videos. fell off my board last week helmet saved my head but unfortunately cracked my humeral head. 6 weeks until I can float again.
@@dustymar4341 I don't wear a helmet. Taken 3 spills on it, but caught myself each time. Just always be ready to fall. If your reactions are fast you can catch yourself.
I started with snowboarding as well. The only two skills necessary for Onewheeling not provided by snowboarding experience, in my opinion, were dismounting and nosedives. The scariest outcome of this statement will be a large number of riders coming from snowboarding that feel so 100% comfortable with the onewheel that they greet the pavement with open arms
Exactly why I haven't and won't buy a one wheel. Nosedives don't tickle. Have been snowboarding since before it was allowed on ski slopes (1970's) and have yet to experience a snowboard abruptly stopping because I'm "too comfortable" on it.
This is why skating and/or longboarding experience helps too. Asphalt requires a different level of respect and hitting a pebble that locks a wheel is very similar to a nose dive except even more abrupt in throwing you from the board they've made me front flip before haha!
I just started as well on the onewheel and only have 2 rides on it over 1 day. I found that the self-balancing doesn't kick in if you are going too slow. When she was talking about the OW not stabilizing laterally when she gets too far to the edge, or she doesn't feel like she can turn hard on her toes/heels, it's because she's going too slow. If you simply told her that the stabilizing kicks in at higher speeds (like more than 1-2 mph), and that she needs to go faster, I think she would've been absolutely shredding on this thing from the get-go.
Self balancing is always active as long as the motor is kicked in. However the heel to toe balancing is done by the rider. It's easier to balance that with speed much like a bicycle. The Onewheel does not do any heel to toe balancing for you.
I just bought a pint last night for the wifey. My XR should be here tomorrow. Haven't even been on one yet. Shipping is taking a little longer so I had to pull the trigger on the pint. Can't wait!
You really ought to have offered her a helmet and wrist-guards, no matter how much experience she has on a snowboard. Also, the first thing I would have taught her is how to jump off safely. That first dismount, with the front foot still on the board, could have ended up very badly.
I always do offer helmets. But the rider can choose to opt out. I did talk about dismount procedures and jumping off the board. A lot of the longer portion of that has been edited out to keep the narrative of the video going. It's just unintuitive to jump off so even with practice people may miss that.
@@SlideWreckDan Thats cool, but 99.9% of the worlds population cant afford to spend 2k on an eboard, plus a new tire. Out of the box, the Pint is a much, much better deal. The only downside is the range.
@@MichaelSuperbacker Huh. Was that recent? I have fallen on the board a few times, but nothing serious. I don't push it very far beyond it's limit so most of my falls were in low speeds. When you push the pushback in highspeed is when it starts to get sketchy. As long as you ride safe, you're generally fine.
@@MichaelSuperbacker The regulation guidelines are pretty vague. The only real 'safe' way is to hit children friendly content and take the hit on your channel or list your channel as an 'non-children targeted content' and hope you don't get flagged. Most likely someone is going to be a victim of this and take a court case to settle the vagueness of the guidelines. It just really sucks.
