  • Xenoblade Chronicles and my 12 year journey that it took me to finally see its ending. Here are my thoughts on the game in general in a sort of retrospective of sorts before Xenoblade Chronicles 3 makes its way to the Nintendo Switch, which I'm wholly excited about. Let me know down in the comments below what you think!

    On the Zanza thing, that twist is foreshadowed all the way back to Shulk and Fiora in outlook Park. The set up is there, but it's subtle enough that you don't notice it. Dickson's betrayal was never intended to be a surprise, it was intended to distract you from what they were really doing with the plot

      I did notice a few subtle hints here and there upon playing through the intro section again. There's a point where Shulk talks about there being two voices in his head, one wanting to do what Fiora would've wanted, and the other telling him to take revenge against the Mechon. I actually thought that was nice foreshadowing, wish I had seen it before I made the video but it is what it is.

      @@thatguybis1997 yeah, also the fact he has no sense of taste. I always find the subtle foreshadowing to be much more impactful than the obvious foreshadowing. I think it's why Mechonis Core works so well. Monolith does a really good job of distracting you from what's really going on with things like Metal Face's identity and Dickson being shady.

      There is also the cutscenes just after Shulk and Reyn get out of tephra cave and Shulk call Meconis as "our enemy", it can be Shulk and Reyn’s enemy but it can also be Shulk and Zanza’s enemy.

    About the whole "why and how is Shulk alive after Zanza leaves his body" thing, I think the point is that Alvis is essentially as powerful as Zanza is, if not more, and it was he who willed it all to happen. He chose Shulk to change the fate of the world in the same way Zanza did (although it's not like that isn't also a little bit of a cheap way to handle it, but it's better than "he's alive because lol main character")

    • @tristanneal9552
      @tristanneal9552 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The problem with this is that I think it directly betrays the "defy fate/make your own destiny" theme. Like, ultimately Shulk didn't define his own fate, he just followed an option laid out to him and secured for him by Alvis.

    • @mexmangafan
      @mexmangafan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tristanneal9552 Alvis just gave him the chance to fight against someone already manipulating fate and put them both in more equal terms. Alvis mentioned that he is an AI, he needs someone to give him directions to use his powers, Alvis in a way just gave Shulk the chance to be that someone instead of Zanza.

    I used to think Zanza was a bit of a cheap cop out villain to give us a final boss. I think that changed a lot on repeat playthroughs that let me see additional foreshadowing that passed by at first due to the sheer length of the game as well as the real life parallels characters like Zanza and Dickson can have to how we view what is normal. That’s just my personal reading of the zanza arc of the story anyways.

      Having started new game plus and played a bit of the intro, I would make a bit of amendment and say that there is a bit more foreshadowing than I previously thought.

    The reason Shulk continued to live after Zanza left him is because of Alvis. Once you played xenoblade 2, the developers left it up to the player to figure out that Alvis is the third Aegis that disappeared into another dimension (his necklace is changed from a random key to the Aegis core crystal in Definitive Edition). While still not properly explained, it's very similar to how Pyra allowed Rex to continue living after he also died.

  • @Polmo1997
    @Polmo1997 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    While Zanza had control on the world, the real entity that was behind all the things was Alvis. Alvis is like an administrator, granting power and abilities to the people he trust are better for the world itself. (And with the lore of Xenoblade 2 his action are also more understandable).
    The vision for example are Alvis permission, that's why Zanza wasn't able to see past Shulk's final encounter while Shulk was able to get vision if he tries to see something.
    And even the fact that Shulk is alive was an Alvis permission, that was the meaning of the dialogue they had in "space"

    I'd say that Zanza's twist is better seen on a replay of the game after finishing the game once. The times when Shulk mentions to Ryen that they must return those fallen soldiers to the Bionis, or how he says the Mechonis is "Our" enemy, could mean he wasn't just talking to Ryen.
    If you do get to making your video about Future Connected, do you think you'll play Xenoblade 3?

    Saying Zanza wasn't foreshadowed enough... Doesn't make that much sense to me. The end of chapter 15? You literally speak to Zanza at prison island. There's a ton of foreshadowing there. And then he's mentioned time and time again after that, by Egil, Vanea, Linda, Miqol and others. I think he was foreshadowed enough that my second playthrough had hints and drops that I found super interesting.
    The Dickson twist though? Okay I get it. Although it still caught *me* by surprise, sure I guess you can say I should've seen it coming. Sucks that you weren't able to enjoy that though, that was the big climax and is a big proponent of the game having so many fans.

    • @thatguybis1997
      @thatguybis1997  ปีที่แล้ว

      After that time on prison island though, he’s pretty much forgotten about until chapter 15.
      Doesn’t feel like enough time was spent on it vs all the time that you’re spent fighting Mechon and the build up to face Egil.
      I will say that there’s more foreshadowing than I first thought on a second play through though. There’s things that you notice that you didn’t notice the first time.

    In fact the reason that shulk is alive is alvis ....alvis DID revive shulk he always guided shulk you might say how did he do it since you played xeno 2 you pyra and and Mythra I'm sure you noticed alvis have a core crystal pyra revived Rex so its not surprise that alvis revived its wielder since alvis is the monado that you see shulk being alive had A HUGE logical explanation in fact even zanza didn't know about what is alvis

  • @majorjohnny7517

    Someone else commented this already but the reason shulk came back to life and was able to beat a God was not because plot or power of friendship, zanza is an all "powerful God" but the source of his power and control over the world comes from alvis and alvis specifically chose shulk to be zanzas replacement so to speak so either the old God would remain or a new one would emerge but again that's only because alvis leveled the playing field for him and not just because the plot willed it so

  • @silentlore2458
    @silentlore2458 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think your main problem is that you weren't invested in the world and story but just the story. Like the reason Shulk still lives is because if Alvis/Ontos being the True God of XC1 and its pocket dimension. Alvis/Ontos knew that Zanza would cause problems with Repeating the cycle of life and death over and over, so he gave shulk the Power of the Monado as a true Way of defying fate. Alvis unlike his Aegis counterparts, has no allegiance, but only wants the Greatest outcome

    Xenoblade 1 makes Xenoblade 2 better in my view mainly because after a rewatch Xenoblade 2 actually goes against the killing god trope -whats beautiful about 1 is the world building in my opinion- & if you focus on pyra after playing all of torna too the subtlety of her sadness is beautiful, 3 is going to be veryyyyyy intresting:)

    if u dont understand xenoblade just watch Luxin and Enels vidios, and it saves me writing an essay. and shulk can use the monado and see the future because the monados are keys to alvis' power that comes from the conduit. and because shulk has the final key, the third monado he can beat zanza, its not some "oh the power of friend ship" garbage.

AI controlled teammates who do random nonsense on their own"...who would want to relinquish control of party members like that? i always despised this. such a stupid idea. i hated it in the tales games way back in the days and i hate it now. such a deal breaker for me. i dont wanna play co-op with dumbass AI. totally takes me out of the immersion and experience
