the complexity of toms questions is awesome to me!
    tom was a genius...
he had his weird hair and his laugh
    and his over exuberant persona
but under it all he was an inquisitor...
    much like howard stern...
    he delved the deep...
    he wanted to KNOW...
    so the WE should know.
    i like that...

Something you don't hear about often: Phil did the voice of Waldo in Van Halen's Hot for Teacher video.

There’s another interview years later on Tom’s Late Late Show on YT. Phil was promoting “Sgt. Biliko” film. It’s a good watch.

Phil to me is definitely one of the most interesting stars of Saturday Night Live to listen too whether he’s being funny or not. His appearances on Letterman are legendary. Here he’s more serious and revealing and less the performer. When I think of his Phil Donahue stuff I can’t think of anything much funnier on SNL. He’s really also just a brilliant guy so knowledgeable, a pilot, ship’s captain he really could do it all. Such a funny and heart warming entertainer. He also captured a bygone era with many of his characters. A legend in my book.

I was on vacation with my family in Naples, Florida. My son and I were in the hotel gym working out, I was on an exercise bike, there was a TV on with CNN and they reported Phil Hartman had just been murdered by his wife. I never forgot that, so I will always remember where I was when I heard about Phil's untimely passing. Jack Benny must have been an influence in Phil's delivery and comedic timing.

Holder - well, hello, you are watching Phil Hartman with me (to be honest, you introduced him to me). He was multi talented, wasn't he and a very engaging man. Would you agree with me that we could have had a little less Tom Snyder and more Phil Hartman? I think we are in synch there, but we both enjoyed it. Good boy

Holder's role as host morphed into his channel. Phil Hartman was amazingly funny. Worth the dig into "Ralk Radio"

    .
FYI: Your comment that Phil Hartman hadn't yet met his (third) wife Brynn (0:52), who murdered both of them, by the date of this show is incorrect: In 1987, Hartman married former model and aspiring actress Brynn Omdahl (born Vicki Jo Omdahl; April 11, 1958 - May 28, 1998), having met her on a blind date the previous year. Of all the tragedies of SNL, Belishi, Falrey, Hartman was probably the most hurtful as he was easiest the most talented who never hit his peak with the mainstream, such a loss.

    • @jedijones
      @jedijones ปีที่แล้ว +1

I personally think Phil hit a real peak with his last year of Newsradio. That's when he finally mastered how to be extremely funny without needing to rely on impersonations. I definitely believe he would've gone on to bigger things in that, such as movie roles. J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man movies would've been the perfect role for him. I think he would've brought extra smarminess to the role that J. K. Simmons didn't quite have.

Kind of a dumb comment, considering how fast the show became a hit. Chevy was a superstar by the end of the first season, enough so that he quit right after it to do movies.

unnecessary to keep flashing the "subscribe" thing all throughout the video. that is one of the most annoying ways to do that. (and best way to get me not to) Once at the end or the beginning of a video works well. Also.... could have done without that weird long dog intro explaining facts that any Phil Hartman fan could easily know or find information on - it's not " not well known ". It's on his wiki page, and in several of his interviews that he designed album covers for many famous bands. just fyi
