    I just wanted to say David, I actually started reading these as well because of these book clubs. Flemings style is super unique and almost feels ahead of its time.

    The atmosphere in Piz Gloria was creepy. You know something was off but you can't put your finger on it. Far more riveting than the movie.

    I think the OHMSS film is probably the most faithful adaptation of a Bond novel.

    Bond at Piz Gloria is a little like Harper at Dracula’s castle. Feeling trapped, mysterious happenings, etc
    It’s a really good book, it flows better than most of the other Fleming Bond books.

    I love On Her Majesty's Secret Service novel. I read it few years ago and I found it to be amazing. Of course before I read it I knew that Bond will suffer a personal loss. I loved the movie too.

    I own all the Bond first edition British Books in Fine Condition. I worked on acquiring the collection for years, with condition being paramount.

    0:50-No, I wouldn’t say Mrs. Bell, but I’ve been enamored with _The Suicide Squad,_ lately, and interested enough in the movie to read some of the comics from which the movie was based, and so the first thing I thought of was “intellectual comic book villain!” In a good way, really! But I’m weird!

      For a moment, with David in those goggles, I thought I was watching The Bono Experience! There's a 007 connection, of course, in that Bono and The Edge co-wrote GoldenEye but that's not OHMSS!

    one of the best fleming books i feel like, i mean the biochemical agent called corona, to real to see that happening in real life, or aspects of it, but i really enjoyed the book alot, i think this is the pivotal bond book, alot of people say that die hard is the classic christmas movie, but i dont think you would get die hard if it wasnt for the success of this movie, there is alot of similarities between the two, first of bond has sex with many woman that doesnt age well i guess, one of the aspects, we see in die hard is john mclaine taking glances at woman, and his marriage is in the fritz and you can say the same with georges here, maybe hes not really married yet so he can screw around, one location nakatomi plaza, here its the ski lodge, you got an american playing blowfeld and a british playing bond, as opposed to an american playing mclaine and a british actor playing a german person, even though bruce willis is german, not many people have OHMSS as daily christmas viewing even though its a pivotal chirstmas movie, from the songs to the chritmas tree, and then george beats up a henchman and says merry christmas, so there are aspects that are a little out dated, but hopefully over time it gets the recognition of repeated viewings for sure, i think it also started the trend, of christmas action films, as well as action heros being married but it wouldnt last long, also All the time in the world has to a be a bond movie title at some point, i know spy kids took it as well as the last episode of Alias, but just do it who cares, as well as if your adapting you only live twice cal it shatterhand or you only live once, which fleming friend ivar bryce wrote his biography about, so i think if anything, bond shot first in that front, but its a great read, and remember Corona..... now its crazy to think that.

      @@jamesatkinsonja just a theory but, I suspect 2 reasons: Back in the '60s, Bond wasn't considered family entertainment. Second, OHMSS was famous for not having Connery, and that eclipsed everything else, including how excellent it was.

    OHMSS is a romantic story that men can enjoy without feeling they are losing any sense of masculinity
    And Tracy is Bond's soul in physical form that's why her death is the end of Bond ever being happy and having a normal life he's damned into being a blunt instrument until he dies

    Why don't they reboot OHMSS ? Its got some nice locations to shoot on and the fact Lazenby only did one movie maybe it would be ok to do it again!

    • @klaudiagrob
      @klaudiagrob 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wouldn't have the same impact as the movie from 1969. So it is best if they don't reboot it. I loved locations soundtrack and plot. If they reboot it ? the thought makes me cringe.

    Let's be honest, outside of film historic interest only two Bond movies can hold up outside their own series: *OHMSS* and the Craig *Casino Royale*. Take 'Bond' out of it and they are still very good films.
    NB: Film historic of interest are Dr No [probably the first B pic with an A budget] and Goldfinger [Bond formula is fully evolved] with a faint FRWL [completely out of time, straight spy thriller]. All others are creatively and historically only of interest within the bounds of the Bond film series.

    • @ricardocantoral7672
      @ricardocantoral7672 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree about OHMSS. Casino Royale, not so much. The film wouldn't be very interesting if it didn't have the Bond name unlike the vastly superior novel

    I don't know, it's overrated for me, I prefer the film more.
    Tracy was severely underwritten and it doesn't help that she's neurotic, crying constantly, hysterical and sappy, she's even absent for the majority of pages in the book.
    She didn't do that much other than to show that she's depressed, she's too heavy for me to like, she's not that witty either, when you compare her to Tiffany Case (another damaged woman), at least Tiffany has more personality, wit and sense of humor that gives a bit lightness to her character and she's at least competent, she's not allowing herself to succumb in her emotions. But Tracy, she's too heavy, full of burden for me to like, she's weak.
    I liked Tracy in the film more.
    I liked that she's NOT that emotional she's NOT that sappy, she's NOT crying constantly.
    I really love her in the film in that she's tough, she beats up a bad guy, recite a poetry, hold a gun against Bond, skiing with Bond, and even winning a stock car race by an accident.
    And the romance between them didn't worked that well in the book, it's rushed, after her long absence that us audiences didn't got even a chance to know her more, Fleming have stated to the readers that Bond fell in love with her all of a sudden?
    I liked that in the film there's a montage and them skiing together.
    I also prefer the proposal scene in the barn than in the airport, it's a bit boring compared to the barn where you really feel the sweetness of their romance.
    Also I really find it weird that Blofeld's plot was limited only to UK, he's very specific when it comes to the girls that he's going to brainwash (Only Irish and British? Really?), And the brainwashing plot was ridiculous but at least in the film, it's a lot more reasonable in that it's worldwide, she's brainwashing a group of women from different countries.
    I just prefer the movie, not a fan of this book, it's not the best, it's a mid-tier Fleming book for me.
    I still don't know why many people were bashing the film, where many people were ranking up the novel that high (despite of it being just the same) it's a weird reasoning for me.
    The film was underrated, the book was overrated.

    All of the Bond girls had an odd flaw. From Honey's broken nose to Domino's limp. Tatiana was a Russian agent. Gala Brandt was engaged and unavailable. Tracy was the frst one with a mental flaw - the suicidal, burn out. Fleming doesn't get enough credit for his brilliant, three-dimensional characters...including Bond. I think the movies cheapened his brand (though I love both the books and the movies).

    • @jammontgomery2320
      @jammontgomery2320 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really? There's Vesper Lynd and Tiffany Case and both have mental problems (especially Vesper Lynd, Tiffany Case had a trauma).
      I honestly consider Tracy as one of the weaker ones (in the books), simply because there's not much in her, especially compared to Vesper Lynd, Tracy was just a Solitaire 2.0, a trophy girl for Bond.
      Tracy is the best when it comes to the movie Bond Girls though.

      @@jammontgomery2320 Good points, sir! Though I don't really consider Vesper's flaw a mental one, I had forgotten about Tiffany's abuse and lingering mental problem. DAF is not one of my favorite books or one I reread often. Thanks for the reminder!
