I'm 82, I wonder if... Always wanted one but you know that question, is there still time. I mean I started out on violin then took 40+ years off of music and then came back and now I try and play the mandolin, tenor banjo, tenor guitar and a mandocello, mostly the last one, nice deep voice. This man seems like he's well polished on his favorite instrument. I envy him! I wish I had stayed in the seat and practiced, practiced and then one more time.
This is amazing!!! Never heard Tocatta and Fugue on Nyckelharpa, but it sounds like it was written for it! Incredible performance! And by memory, without score....Wow!
Like the great Chaconne (BWV 1004) this works really well for strings (and for many other instruments - Bach wrote absolute music which works whatever you play it on...)
When i saw the recommendation my first words were .....your joking.....well that was beautiful and astonishing. He is master musician. Coincidentally there is a girl playing this piece on the kalimba that also is unbelievable.
Awesome performance! Thank you very lots of close up shots, it's very interesting how this instrument works. It sounds to me as lots and lots of harmonics on the violin, so much resonance! Love it!
No words!!! Thank you for sharing this wonder and have the chance to listen to this beautiful instrument and a music that connects us with the other world. It was simply divine, this instrument was perfect for this mission. Live long and prosper!!! Greatings from Brasil-land!
Great performance! I wish these instruments were easier to find. I'd love to try one, but the prices are very high, and availability seems very low (in the US, at least).
I have always heard this play on an organ but I believe this instrument rivals that of the organ. It as the music was always met to be played on it. However I do like the low notes of a pipe organ as it vibrates one's body resonate to the frequencies of those extremely low notes which this instrument can not duplicate those depth in those frequencies.
Is that a Viola d'amore a chiavi per chance? Cause it seems a bit big for a standard modern Nyckelharpa, and doesn't have quite the same tone. Edit: Just read the description and it says that it is. Sounds great.
Dear Greg, Thanks a lot This instrument is made by Alex Pilz you will find an arrangment for 3 nyckelharpa here th-cam.com/video/iTnrlYC12-8/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/FS59Du9wDDQ/w-d-xo.html and for 4 nyckelharpa: th-cam.com/video/BdlbkdqmfKc/w-d-xo.html
Beautiful focus on the instrument. You really feel the music coming out of the source. I suggest editing the clip to remove the boring background. Just focus on the musician and the instrument and you will have an outstanding clip. ❤
I‘d never imagined, that someone may play this piece so gorgeous on a Nyckelharpa.
The Toccata & fuga in D minor was written by J S Bach for the concert organ. I play folk music on a nyckelharpa, but this really blows my mind away.
Its not what you play, its how good you are at it.

Quel beau son !!!! Entre le violon alto et le violoncelle... Très bonne interprétation...

Extraordinaire au sens littéral du terme...
Mindblowing! Transcription, performance, sound... everything.
That was amazingly well played! If i didn't know better, I'd have said the piece was written for nyckelharpa.
Absolutely amazing. Perfectly played I love thiz song and,he plays it perfectly on an amazing and unique instrument
Quel plaisir d'entendre cette version
I have never before heard of this instrument. What an amazing sound! The performance of a very loved piece by Bach was superb.
When i saw the recommendation my first words were .....your joking.....well that was beautiful and astonishing. He is master musician. Coincidentally there is a girl playing this piece on the kalimba that also is unbelievable.
Beautiful. I also like the small background noise of the keys.
Brilliant rendition of this famous Bach piece. Haven't heard of this instrument before. This the 2nd video I'm watching.
Bach is universal... I heard a version on Moog synthesiser... this version sounds so baroque. ❤🎉
Fantastic arrangement .
Awesome performance! Thank you very lots of close up shots, it's very interesting how this instrument works. It sounds to me as lots and lots of harmonics on the violin, so much resonance! Love it!
Thank you Anna

A versatile instrument, for sure. I'm glad it's still alive and ...kicking.
ACDC meet Bach...in the XIVth century. Amazing. Thank you.

I found out that you can use Prim Nyckelharpa Strings (Medium Tension) which are Cello strings made shorter & they're Flatwound to make bowing easier.
Bravo!

How do players do this without sheet music. Wonder how long it takes to learn.

I NEED a nuckelharpa!
This is a lot fancier than the Polish-made instruments I've seen. What make is it?
I'd like to hear an arrangement of this for four nyckelharpas.
Dear Greg, Thanks a lot This instrument is made by Alex Pilz
you will find an arrangment for 3 nyckelharpa here th-cam.com/video/iTnrlYC12-8/w-d-xo.html

This seems more like an alto nyckelharpa? It is bigger than the usual swedish nyckelharpa. Or is it even a bass nyckelharpa?
Can this play chords? Sometimes it sounds like it can, but I'm not sure...
Parece ser difícil de tocar

なぜ3声のフーガが弾けるんやろか?不思議じゃ。
Because a nyckelharpa has resonant strings underneath the ones you bow, resonating freely, and they add to the resonance you hear
Love it except the tempo could be a tad more vigorous at points.
never see the stuff, i think violin
No, it's a nyckelharpa, an old swedish Instrument.
Stupid instrument for our age
Well, it didn’t come from “our age.” Haven’t you the creativity to do a little “mind time traveling” and imagine it in it’s age?
An instrument cannot be stupid -- only a human can stoop to that level.
Somebody is badass.
Beautiful!
