  • In this video we look at fitting the side mounted gear carrier on our new Land Rover Defender 2020 110. This is a genuine Land Rover accessory part number VPLEP0437. The fitting instructions are pretty clear. We seemed to be missing a part and a bit confused about the main support having an F and an R on them but this not being covered in the instructions

    Yet another cracking video, you could do one of paint drying and we would watch 👍🏻.
    So here’s an idea for a video experiment which will be very interesting, motorway run at a set speed without roof rack and then the same road and length with the rack. Would be very interesting to see how the economy is affected
    One step further ? Get a db meter to check wind noise.

    Extremely informative, thank you. I think designing a jerrycan carrier based on the fitting of the box would be great addition 👍 Very good location for the jerrycan too, right on top of the fuel tank lid.

      Having fitted this i did think along these lines... I was considering making a version of the 2 hook ( Part B ) as once you have these they form a platform that you could mount a whole load of products onto. We may be able to do these in stainless steel ?

    Great video! Looking forward to seeing the expedition roof. I have hear it adds a LOT of wind noise and pressure on the sunroof when the car is fitted with a sunroof. • @alantd44
      @alantd44 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do get wind noise for sure (true of any roof rack). There’s a weird ‘chin’ on the rack at the front - which is either there to alter the aero profile or to accept a light bar (perfect dimensions).
      As for pressure, I’ve not noticed anything, although I’m not sure what the symptom would be.
      Overall the rack is pretty neat and straight forward to fit (as I’m sure Simon will prove).

      @JeffMaf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alan Davies yeah, I appreciate your comments. I test drove a Defender with Explorer pack and it seemed that the Chin pushed the air right down onto the sunroof making the air flow not very pleasant when opening the sunroof. So Land Rover pur 3 mounting hole on the RH side and only 2 fitting holes on the LHS
      So you can fit the ladder on LH or RH side
      You can only fit the side gear carrier to the RH side as the rear most mouting hole is missing !
      You can drill a hole and fit an M6 rivut - we did this on our molle plate fitting video.

    When you held the two struts together, one *did* look slightly different from the other. I assume because the vehicle tapers very slightly towards the rear. Also - for cutting the 19mm holes, would a "tank cutter" have been better? or a taper drill? I like the sheet metal hole cutters where you have two metal pieces that you tighten with an Allen key and slowly punch a perfectly circular hole in metal (even square holes if you get the right one). The one thing about the side box is that they only seem to be in silver and not available in body colour (same with the spare wheel cover) - it seems a shame that they don't do these in body colour (or do they just want you to buy silver cars?).

      Hi Bernard I think its too early to comment on the medium / long term reliability of the car just yet but you raise some concerns and of course you are not alone with your thoughts and comments. But so far i am happy that i have a car that can go off road / go to the shopping centre / go to an important meeting / be a wedding car / look great at a country pub.... I cannot see that being true for the Grenadier or the Great Wall but they may be great cars in their own right but not really a challenger for the new Defender.
