    The Sony 7600 series are very high quality! I've two, and original from 30 years ago, and that model your showing here.
    Both are gems!
    But, for just band scanning on MW or SW, I prefer the older model!

    These modifications are a real update. During your demonstration you tuned a Brazilian station on 11780KHz, Radio Nacional a state run station from Brasilia-DF. I find the muting cancelling very good. I get angry with manufacturers for insisting on features like these - this is clearly a radio for DXers like me, and as so, I'm not afraid of noise, but they insist on trying to suppress it to the point that the sound of the SW7600GR is so over processed I almost never use it to listen to programs. I'd rather use my DE1103 or even analog receivers such as my little SW20 or older ones. Same for FM Dxing, I also find the DE1103 v. 1.0 (no DSP) more sensitive and selective. I find the SW7600GR's synch detect feature very useful though. I like listening to The Beeb, and specially during wintertime, propagation is very erratic and the strongest frequency is 11810KHz, but it suffers strong interference from Radio Brasil Central on 11815KHz and synch detect works very well. But again due to its horrible audio I'd rather use my PL-660 or a tabletop like my ICF-2010. Excellent job and thanks for sharing it.

    I found the filters at Digikey. Murata 110Khz part no: 490-8573-ND or 150Khz part no: 490-4710-ND. I used the 150, but 110 should work too with little bit more loss. It looks like they are out of stock on the 150 at the moment.

    Disabling muting is a great hack, thanks and the video. Would have loved a more "full service" tech description of all your hacks... do you have them on a blog maybe?

    Fine tuning is usually very "touchy," so I'm wondering if you have considered "slowing down" the SSB fine tuning. Since this radio tunes in 1 kHz steps, a ± 600 Hz range is adequate and much easier to "zero beat."

    Could you tell me where you found info about changing the FM filters or what the part number was? I can't seem to find info about that mod anywhere and I'd like to do it to mine.

    Hi Bluesun,I have a question, is there a radio with which I can hear to any radio channels in the world, from my city?

    • @TucsonAnalogWorkshop
      @TucsonAnalogWorkshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty much any Shortwave "World Band" radio can achieve this: check out Sony, Tecsun, Degen, CCrane, etc. Also there are some very good vintage receviers like Panasonic, Radio Shack and many others. Reception depends where you are, what time of year, what you want to listen to. Unfortunately many shortwave stations have ceased broadcasting recent years. In the US many times all I can hear in English is evangelical broadcasts, and on some mornings, Radio Australia. Asia, Middle East and Africa I think have a better selection of shortwave stations.

      I have purchased www.amazon.in/SONY-SW11-band-World-Radio/dp/B0002VM7MG?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 this model what do you think about my selection, since as you mentioned many stations have closed there broadcasts what is the future of radio, because that is the only media we can keep in touch with the world, I am trying to search European stations but I think they are all FM, is there a way to hear there FM, I don't understand much of radio signals, I have a project may be we can discuss it later when I am ready with something if you are interested

    • @OttosTheName
      @OttosTheName 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think FM signals can't travel far, what ever radio you're using. In Europe there are almost no SW stations, but in France there are a few. There are also some in the more Eastern European countries.
      That should be a pretty nice reciever for the money. Of course the one in this video is a bit better, but a simple one with a rotary dial definitly has a lot of charme to it too in my opinion and it's actually pretty decent.

    Can I listen to other countries radio? I have fm radio on my phone why should I buy an additional radio? I mean I want to know the importance of the radio. Thanks

    • @TucsonAnalogWorkshop
      @TucsonAnalogWorkshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. What you have on your phone (FM) is local only (usually less than 60 miles from transmitter to receiver). In the US, FM (with a few exceptions) is almost wholly owned by large corporations who play the same boring music over and over with lots of advertising. Short Wave is a whole different animal and is capable of being received over many thousands of miles away. Here in the US I listen to New Zealand, Cuba, Greece and sometimes China or India. Part of the Short Wave spectrum also includes Amateur radio operators (the radio needs to be a model with SSB (single side band) mode in order to hear amateur broadcasts--(that's what you are hearing in the first part of the video). There are other brands available with SSB (for example, my other favorite, the Tecsun PL-880; or, if you have a more limited budget, the Tecsun PL-660 is also very good). Mainly you should be interested in short wave because the content is quite different--often you hear very different points of view, it is ad-free, and doesn't rely on internet or cell phone technology. And it's great if you want to educate yourself about the technology of analog radio.

      All the mods I found on internet searches about a year ago, hopefully those sites still exist. There was no one-stop-shop however, it took a little deciphering and detective work to put them all together.

    • @henrydrn1655
      @henrydrn1655 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bluesun267 Thanks, I'll search and see what's available. According to Passport To World Band Radio, the Sony is one of the best compact portables available; especially its SSB performance. If I'm successful with these modifications, I will consider adding a tuning knob; perhaps on the left side. This should be possible with a rotary encoder and a chip or two; and should be relatively easy.

      Wow, this is truly amazing. I purchased one of this same model on EBay and can’t make it work. It indicates that it tunes in stations but you can’t hear a thing, either on AM, FM, SW, you name it. Sometimes it apparently runs some scanning, but with zero result. What do you suggest me to do ? I’ll never buy on eBay again. I have the hunch that the radio still can work, but don’t know where to take it to have it checked or what I might be doing wrong. Any comment would be appreciated. Great video !!!

      @RMoribayashi 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      All India Radio has good coverage of south east Asia and I believe there are local stations on the tropical bands (from 2 to 5 megahertz) that should reach you at night. I don't know what stations stream on the internet, but that's another option.

    • @RMoribayashi
      @RMoribayashi 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shivam Vyas Search Google for "shortwave schedule" and look for sites that have listings. There is still a lot to hear but around the world shortwave radio is dying. It's cheaper to stream radio programs on the net than to run millions of watts of power into radio transmitters.
