    Remove the grate from the buddy heater and flip it the opposite way, bottom to the top. Insert bottom part of the grate into the top holes. Makes a fantastic cooking surface!

      Thank you! I’ve heard of people doing this before, I just haven’t attempted it for fear of damaging the ceramic heating element. I’ll give it a try next time I’m out

    Always look forward to your videos! Never went off the Ely side. It would be alot closer for me.

      Thank you! Unfortunately we just don't have the high concentration of lake trout lakes that are easily accessible on the Ely side. Most require LONG treks into the BW, or fighting the crowds. If you're willing to travel, there are plenty of trout to be found!

      @therealfarwater 2.5 hike I'd gladly do! Grande Maria side I usually get maybe 3 in a day with seems longer hike. May have to rethink my options. Healing this winter but would be game to meet up for a hike in next yr!

    Mercury in the bwca?

    • @therealfarwater
      @therealfarwater  วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Filling_tags yep, most mercury, as I understand it, arrives via air from commercial sources like coal fired power plants, waste, incinerators, and smelting factories. It is carried through the air and lands in even remote locations like the BWCA where it enters the food chain, and it is consumed and accumulates in the top predator fish like lake trout.

    Wow, that catch rate was crazy! You're filling me with regret that I didn't take advantage of the easy hauling in early Jan, and go up there. We love that lake early open water for lakers, but have never been up there in the winter. Cool to see you get so many smaller fish too. Don't think we've ever caught one smaller than low 20s length. Keep up the fun adventures.

      The lack of snow cover and high pressure had them SUPER active, which isn't typical for opener - that craziness is generally reserved for mid/late March. The bite has certainly changed since we got snow. It's much tougher to travel, especially into the BW. The smaller ones are much easier to catch in the winter, most of these came off bottom, where I catch most of my smaller fish.
