- the title "Mother of God" is associated with the dogma of the Incarnation, which asserts that Jesus, being both fully divine and fully human, was conceived in the womb of Mary. Rooted in the concept of the Incarnation, God took on human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. Therefore, as the mother of Jesus, Mary is regarded as the Mother of God.

Excellent verse . God loves all His children, I believe the enemy wants to distract us with side issues. The main mission for us Christians is to preach Christ Crucified and His ressurection to a lost world. Yes Mary was chosen by God to be the mother of THE HUMANITY OF CHRIST. Of course we revere Mary, however, God could have used other young virgins whom He could send His angel to reveal His plan of redemption. Thank you for clearing this up. Cheers from a fellow Greek Orthodox. The greek term Theotokos, was earlier though, but came into prominence due to the ancient debate with Nestorians who they DID NOT accept the Godliness of Christ (they accepted 2 persons and 2 natures). So in order to confirm the incarnate Godliness of Christ, we use the term Theotokos.
And its heretical to use any other term, this so called bishop with his schismatic and American like televangelist church uses the term CHRISTOTOKOS, thats HERESY. I'm Serbian Orthodox and this man is NOT orthodox nor is his church, people seem to have fallen under his spell no different to people who follow false preachers like Benny Hinn etc. This "bishop" is nothing more than an internet sensation who is being made to be on the same level as out early Church Fathers, he definitely is not. Mathew 7.15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves."

Of course, Christianity teaches that God is eternal and that Jesus Christ has a pre-existent, divine nature. The idea that Mary is the mother of God in the sense that she was the source of God or somehow predated God or is herself part of the Godhead is patently unbiblical.

The "Queenship" of Mary was established by Pope Pius XII in 1954. Some how the Bible and almost 2000 years of church history failed to mention Mary as being a "queen" of anything, let alone of "mercy". Since it was God the Father who had mercy upon us and sent His Son Jesus to save us from our sin, calling her "queen" would mean she is married to the King. The only king we recognize as Christians is Jesus Christ, King of Kings.
No-where in the Bible is Mary referred to as holy either. God the Father is "Holy", and Jesus was the express image of God in the flesh. Mary was "blessed" by God...not "holy". And not to diminish her at all as a person, considering that God chose her, but all of humanity is "blessed" in that God sent His Son to redeem us. Elevating Mary or "the saints" (which are any true "born again" Christians), making idols of her (or any saint), and praying to her (or any saint) is in my understanding...blasphemy! This is not a small error in doctrine. This is a false teaching apart from the gospel of Jesus Christ. By Christ alone we are saved!

Who doubts this praying for Mary's intercession? If the prayer of a just Person can have astonishing effects (see James 5:16), how much more the prayer of the Mother of God. God gave us His Mother as support (John 19:26) and so we have no right to refuse her.

Nestorian himself was not a nestorian heretic. The catholic Church accepted it dear friend. I'm a catholic priest (of Syro Malabar Catholic Church) from Kerala, India who is using this same Chaldean liturgy. Both our churches have it's apostolic original relation to the apostle St.Thomas. Our Holy Qurbana (Holy Mass) is one of the oldest when it comes to the anaphora of mar Addai and mar Mari who were the disciples of St. Thomas.

I understand his point, of course the virgin Mary is one of the best examples of Godly people that we Christians should imitate and respect. But there are dangers to it (for calling her as the mother of God) for those people that doesn't fully understand God's nature and authority. For this could lead to some people to commit sin like to make Mary equal to God (for example praying to Mary just like some Christian denomination does) and some people tend to revere Mary more than God Himself. It sounds to me, as though the assyrians are just being careful to use that term, mother of God, so not to cause confusion, i.e that she created the divine nature. They don't worship Mary, they venerate Mary. There's a difference. They only worship God. But they respect her (and other saints) a lot and pray to her and them. You see, "pray" here doesn't mean worship. To "Pray" is to make request (as in "Pray tell your name, milady"). So the Catholics and the Orthodoxes pray (make request) to these holy persons so that they talk to God on their behalf. The same way we ask our pastor "pastor, please pray for me" even though we can pray ourselves

So I know that accepting Mary as The Mother of Jesus Christ is good because its the truth, but is praying to her the right way ? Cause as a Catholic it always made me so angry on the inside that they always said "Pray to Mary so that she helps you with this or that and that she can help you get to Heaven and God" , but the Bible says otherwise, ONLY THROUGH JESUS CAN YOU REACH HIS FATHER, HE IS THE ONLY WAY, TRUTH AND LIFE. Catholics always put Mary on such a high place, Im not saying she isn't important, in fact Jesus said that she is our mother "Behold, your mother!" but sometimes they put her higher then God and it is bad. Jesus actually didn't tell us that Mary was our mother. There were also other disciples there, but notice that he was speaking directly to John. He didn't mention any other person. Also there is no scripture that supports praying to Mary. In fact that's idolatry. You are right in your suspicion. Follow Jesus. The Bible is clear.
