Does the village of Rosewood still exists? I have been told that it did as late as the 1820's and was the home of an ancestor of mine - his name was either Edward Simon or Edward Simonton.
Have you considered visiting the lovely church at Hampnett, within easy walking west of Northleach. It has a very interesting story of how, in the mid-19th century, it was redecorated to represent how it may have looked in pre-reformation times and the parishioners were not best pleased!
When you spoke of the hotel you visited, and the talk of old fashioned values and your obvious love of the place, I drifted off into a dreamlike state and had to shake myself out of it to complete my chores. It was a lovely expereience all the same, something I often get from your videos. Thank you for the lovely videos you make.
The World is in such disarray and filled with sad times for many, your videos today have provided us with an escape. Thank you for sharing the Cotswold history, as well as the special personal remembrance of your brother. Treasure your memories!🙏🏻👍🇺🇸
This video is a kind of refuge out of the insanity going on around ! Thank you for it ! It is the only thing worth watching ,relying on things past ,encouraged to see them still in their place and hoping that reason will overcome the lust for power and destruction.Looking forward for more !
Thank you so much, for a journey with story-telling, showing us the hidden gems of the Cotswolds. Recently, I met an Englishman in my city of Utrecht, the Netherlands, who told me of the Cotswolds as part of Britain that is largely untouched by modernities, offering peace and quiet, with unspoiled nature also. After I told him of my almost 5 years in Britain, living on Dartmoor, with appreciation of the hidden country side and woodlands, the rolling hills and quiet coastal villages. The far views from a hilltop or a Tor are dearly missed, but I'm sure to return to Britain for long holidays. The Netherlands is very densely populated!
ALWAYS A TREAT WHEN YOU TAKE US THROUGH THE AREA ROBIN , SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR BROTHER AND IT'S GREAT YOU HAVE SPECIAL PLACES AND MEMORIES TO REMEMBER HIM , THESE CHURCHES AND LANDSCAPE IS AMAZING, ALSO THE LAYERS OF HISTORY THROUGH THESE AREAS AND THE PEOPLE WHOM LIVED THERE , TAKE CARE FOLK 👌 INDEED 👌
We stayed at that B&B in Farmcote! It is a remote but lovely place. Thanks for teaching me what a sounding board is today! I’m glad the visit brought back happy memories of your dear brother 💕
Thank you...I visited Winchcombe some 25 years ago already and was quite taken by this gem of a village. Thank you again for your informative episodes.
I am now subscribed and enjoying these very much. I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. My Mother-in-Law also had Alzheimer's disease. I feel for you. Cyber Hugs.
Hi Robin, it is very clear that your love for the Cotswold gems, which is matched only by your love of old churches and their unique architecture. I too enjoy old churches, and find that the more humble they are, the greater is the tranquility found in them!
My wife and I just ventured, by the spirit of exploration, into the hamlet of Farmcote and then down to Hales Monastery. Truly an off the beaten path gem by any standard of history. We also visited Sudeley, where Thomas Seymour resided. Access to the monastery and the church is limited to Wednesday thru Sunday, but just to stand on the property was a dip into a world of glory and grandeur gone by.
I would love to stroll with you through the Cotswolds and then retire to a cozy room with a fireplace and tea brewing. There would be scone which clotted cream and jam. We would have a long conversation after which you would read poetry from Tennyson and Lord Byron or better yet a Shakespearean play.
A person who is deeply well knowledge about his country's heritages and love it dearly with concern is very rare..not to mention to preserve it through film in which many could learn. Sir Robin is the gem himself..but most of the time I must struggle whether to listen to his lecturing or to just enjoy the gorgeous sceneries..there is no need to rush to finish the film anyway..watching it carefully for an hour or two on and off, would be much better to appreciate his hard works and his team, & their dedication towards their beloved country.
Videos like this, is what my worn and tired soul and spirit need! If money was no problem, I'd do loads and loads of restoration work all over the country! Loved history and geography in school, still do.... Excellent channel, I hope that your other one with ghosts will grow as much as well! Greetings from a Swede in Glasgow....🍻
So pleased to have found this today! I thoroughly enjoyed every moment, and promptly subscribed. I will look forward to many moments joyfully watching your channel. Many thanks!🌸❤️
So lovely you could film inside where you had a coffee in the Manor. We stayed at The Inn for all Seasons, Burford, they allow dogs. We recently attended my sisters funeral in Kidlington. Did not take the dogs then, but will be visiting my niece in summer 2024 and will bring dogs to stay in the family room there.
Superb! One of the many things I learned from our tour escort was the cockerel indicated a Protestant Burch, whilst a cross indicated a Roman Catholic church. I love these hidden places, such treasures hiding out of sight!
I absolutely love your channel and videos you show on the Cotswolds/ it inspired me to go back to the UK in July 2022, and travel through the incredible region. I started in Henley On Thames and drove through Ox, Gloucestershire, and down to Bristol. Towns like Wantage, Henley On Thames. Nettlebed, Sonning, Abingdon on Thames, Bicester, Burford, Minster Lovell, Yate, Petty France, Bristol, amongst many other incredible and scenic towns. thank you for your videos and keep them coming
Stunning as usual. There should be a community car park somewhere, the parked cars destroy these sort of villages. As for will we ever learn, I sadly think not. You could blow me over with a feather with the narration of this. Thanks.
I’m fortunate enough to live close to York in beautiful Yorkshire but I HAVE to take my caravan down to the Cotswolds almost every year so I have visited almost all the wonderful places you show on all your different episodes. Beautifully filmed ( I feel that I’m holding the camera 🙂. There is a leper’s squint in the amazing Selby Abbey BTW.
This is a part of the country I am quite familiar with, having once visited Winchcombe on a Lambretta scooter. I have been to Farmcote as well, only last year.
I can`t imagine you wearing anything inappropriate .What on earth did you have on ? Fabulous series by the way. Its a while since I`ve been down your way and your series is bringing back wonderful memories.
I hate to disagree with you regarding the 'modern phillistine obsession with money' as being the primary modern threat - as love of money is part and parcel of the human condition. I worry about the modern Phillistine obsession with the complete destruction of Western Civilization, past, present, and future. BTW, LOVE your videos! FAR Better than anything cable or regular TV has to offer- you are a natural narrator and tour guide 🙂Love from Chicago 🙏
I came to this vid, looking for Cotsowld villages, buildings and stone because we want to model them on or model railway, but now that I am here, I cant tear myself away to go back in the loft to start the build. lol
wonderful episode and more I have enjoyed since I found you . Look forward to welcoming you to the GWSR , do let us know when you want to come to see us , we volunteers will offer any help you need . john Mayell
Thanks John, that is so kind. If you could drop us a line - hello@thecotswoldexplorer.co.uk so we can organise this in future, we’d be grateful! - Ross
Love your Cotswold commentaries, Robin. By the way, I believe the cricket pavilion at Stanway was restored with funds provided by Mick Jagger .. and, naughty, naughty, Winchcombe isn`t a village , it`s a town!
what a delightful programme and there are more episodes to enjoy . May I ask if you have filmed at the GWR Railway yet or is that likely soon ? john M.
Hi John, Certainly on the cards and something we'd like to do with the cooperation of the heritage railway. Hopefully later in the summer or early spring next year!
It is so beautiful there I'd much rather go live there than stay here in the United States the US isn't as beautiful as it is there it just seemed so peaceful and beautiful unlike America
The're pretty much as usual actually. Chaotic, irritating, but mostly good natured and properly sceptical of those who set themselves up in power. Hey Ho. Come over and visit us soon and keep watching. All the best. Robin
Hidden Gems is back! Where would you like to visit in this episodes' line up of places to see?
Does the village of Rosewood still exists? I have been told that it did as late as the 1820's and was the home of an ancestor of mine - his name was either Edward Simon or Edward Simonton.
More hamlets please
Just more of EVERYTHING! What a beautiful country

A delightful sequence which conveys some of the spirit of place, as well as the enchanted Cotswold landscape.
I am now subscribed and enjoying these very much. I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. My Mother-in-Law also had Alzheimer's disease. I feel for you. Cyber Hugs.
Delightful - true Hidden Gems - but I felt for your pups shivering in the chill autumn weather!
Wow scenic overload. Thanks so much.
Thak you so much. This is a little but profound break from the fast paced dehumanizing daily toil.
I love the George and the Dragon statue and always look out for it when I’m driving around that area.

He needs to buy coats for his dogs, poor things are shivering!
Winchcombe is lovely. It's a shame how built up it's become over the last decade.
Winchcombe is a town not a village
UK people how are things across the pond?
