Putin’s ISIS problem

  • As President Putin repeats his assertion that Ukraine and the West are behind the terrorist attack last week that killed 137 Russians, the evidence is only growing that this was the work of ISIS. The culprits come from a faction that have risen out of the ashes of the former ISIS Caliphate: ISIS-K. So who are they? And how worried should the rest of the world be?
Guest: Mark Galeotti, historian, journalist and author of ‘We Need to Talk About Putin,’ ‘Putin’s Wars’ and ‘A Short History of Russia.’

In terms of loss of life this one incident is 2000 times less than what Putin has done in Ukraine. Putin has been causing this many deaths 3 times per day for the past 2 years. In economic terms this incident is significant but virtually nothing compared to his war.

Hès responsible for every death in the Ukraine war on both sides. Ukrainian AND Russian. There have been about 700,000 deaths total so far. Many of them are women - children - babies -and elderly. It is still going on right now as i type this reply! As far as body count Putin is the KING of all terrorists on earth right now.

As a former KGB officer, it must be frustrating for Putin to see the US more informed about terrorist threats within Russia than Russia itself. Additionally, the delayed response of the security police only adds to the issue. His intense focus on Ukraine does little to hide his ineffectiveness in these matters. Russia blamed Ukraine within 20 minutes, despite lacking evidence and despite ISIS live-streaming the attack. Meanwhile, it took Russian authorities 90 minutes to reach the concert hall, even though it was within walking distance.

I am not a conspiracy theorist fan, but I am surprised that Mark Galliotti, your expert, takes everything at face value : what you see is what you get. I recommend viewers of this video also watch Jake Broe's latest edition on the war which suggests that a particularly sinister understanding of the Krocus Massacre is highly plausible. Far from unsettling Putin, as Mark infers, the whole thing was orchestrated to benefit his war on Ukraine by ultimately blaming them for the attack, thereby enfuriating Russian citizens and thus making a further level of conscription more palatable. I won't list here all the reasons why Jake Broe believes this all too possible, but recommend viewers here once again to check his contribution to the debate on what is REALLY happening.

Isn't it also odd this just so happened during the time Putin wants a total mobilization of more troops for Ukraine and total support for his war in Ukraine? HMM! How odd!!! Isn't it odd the terrorist didn't say Ukraine, or the West paid them for the attack, and they clearly have been tortured and still said ISIS is responsible? HMM! What's wrong with this whole picture people? Who does this really make look guilty? I think we all already know the answer to these questions!!

To suggest that the ISISK footage was not very clear and that it may be footage from social media that victims posted to social media. It's completely misleading IT IS FOOTAGE STRAIGHT FROM THE TERRORISTS the camera man was videoing right next to the terrorist who was repeatedly slashing at the throat of one of the victims.
I don't know the last time a victim of a terrorist attack decided to stand 2 foot away from a terrorist to get a video....completely shamefull suggestion even if he's suggesting it is other people suggesting it he should have made it clear THE VIDEO WAS SHOOT BY THE TERRORISTS.
Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoy also stated that Minsk’s special forces “helped prevent the terrorists from escaping across the shared border.”
Lukashenko also said the same thing the next day seems he forgot to get his story straight with putler.
And there is also a GPS located speed camera shot of the car with the terrorists in it showing they are on the road to Belarus.

However, back in the early 2000s with the whole war on terror situation, I was surprised to see the level of contempt that Russians have towards muslims living there and, yet, they only got away with a few Chechen attacks. Its not out of question if security is patchier now when so much is focused on the war.
