This girl has the AUDACITY to neglect an animal, and you can visibly see that cat is not ok. One look at that cat could tell you it needed to go to the vet. Do I think she neglected her cat? Yes. Do I think her roommates tried to save it like they said and spent thousands on this cat? No.
The cat looked rough in the adoption pictures she had, so don't think she is lying when she said the cat was sick at adoption; I also do believe her when she said the adoption place told her it was just a cold because I was told the same thing when I adopted a cat that was sneezing, runny eyes, and nose, and shaking it's head a lot. "It's common for cats to get a cold/respiratory illness when in the shelter, it will clear in a week" is what we were told about my cat. However, she did neglect it by not getting it veterinary care (we took my cat to the vet for a second opinion).
I don't believe for a second that the one roommate (the guy) would take the cat and spend so much money on it, then not confront her about the cat's health nor demand compensation for the veterinary care they supposedly gave it; he's also the one in the video saying the cat, "smells and sh*ts everywhere" while the others are saying that's not true, so it doesn't seem like he was overly fond of the cat.
Definitely agree everyone has some blame in this, and the cat is the only victim in this situation.

I feel like surely it would highlight how negligent she felt towards it. And online it defo is a he said, she said. All the mates are in the wrong but at the end of the day, she proactively went to adopt a cat, she had the resources to get appropriate care & a vet check up as soon as she got the cat adopted. It wasn’t a house cat & the fact they didn’t want a cat, it being solely rhegans with it being locked away in a closet most of the time kinda highlights the discrepancies because a cat doesn’t end up malnourished in a couple days.
The video of them talking about switching rooms & them discussing the cat, was actually a very plausible convo esp if someone’s allergic. The photos/videos she posted of her as “evidence” was weak asf, knowing she had been getting 1-2 day illnesses regularly but only informing the shelter is ODD. she can go on Amazon to get a cat fountain but not able to do a first health check with a vet?! idk it’s just so weird. She was emphasising the cat was taken in perfect condition and the bad health occurred solely in the roommates care just to blame rhegan. Saying she should’ve taken her to the vet the first time isn’t taking accountability when viewers have to comment and tell her to do that. It’s just fucked up and sad

    1. The adoption center should have never let an inexperienced cat person adopt a cat with serious health issues. I get we want and need animals to be adopted, but they have to be the right adopters.
    2. Everyone is at fault, even the people who just heard it as a rumor and decided to talk about like gossip, and I never watched or followed any of them and never will because they were complicit. It freaking Reddit to “expose” the truth.
    3. This isn’t tea. I thank Spill Sesh for talking about and addressing the serious. No one in this situation deserves to be defended. I have had sick pets in the past and I always went to the vet, no matter if I had to scrape up the money, Reghan has no excuse on why she didn’t set monthly appointments with a vet knowing the cat, Seven, has an underlying condition. She has the money for lip injections and Botox. She had the money to make sure that cat had the best life possible. But now a cat, a living being (some of all forgetting that) has passed away due to neglect.
When adopting pets, I used to get annoyed when adoption centers had all these procedures when adopting from them like interviews and references, home checks before ever meeting the pet, etc, but these situations make it necessary for those checks.

  • @cjtunechi

So many problems with this cat situation.
I think the cat had underlying health issues. I think she was neglectful to the cat’s lethargic behavior to being “just a cold”.

Yeah even my perfectly healthy kitten requires a check up, the shelter gives out vouchers for 1 free check-up after adoption, because shelter cats will often get sick and it spreads quickly in a shelter. They said they can't promise he won't have any other illnesses especially after he leaves, so the check-up is necessary.
After that initial check-up, you should still be taking them to the vet. If you can't afford the vet outright i suggest looking into pet insurance, shop around find what works for you and your needs, it'll greatly help if god forbid anything bad happens to them, and do a copay on regular visits. It might not seem cheaper at first, but you'll be so glad you paid for it when/if something bad happens and the vet bill isn't a surrender situation. I know many owners fall into the category if their pet needed surgery or something they'd be forced to surrender them because they cant afford the bill.
So be responsible when adopting a cat, look at pet insurance and despite it being an "extra cost" just do it for the safety of your animals, and your bank.

I have adopted a cat with an upper respiratory infection before also after being spayed she had a very large wound with stitches still not closed because the vet was not used to working on animals that small. It is extremely common in adoption centers for cats (especially kittens) to have an upper respiratory infection that isn't severe, like a human cold so to speak. You should know this. I was required to monitor the cold & keep an eye on her incision. Its been 14 years & she has no health issues.
That being said I do not agree that there is no documentation only his receipts with his mom & friends. He should have receipts from vet & bank info of the 1000s of dollars he spent.

Cat owner here. Her "proof" of the cat being okay is a dark photo and you can just see the face. Cats with thick/long fur can get easily matted. If they're sick, they can't groom themselves too so it adds to that. Cats are also notorious for not showing symptoms until their illness is severe or it's too late. If the cat did have underlying conditions, it was the shelter's responsibility to inform the adopter. It's also the adopter's responsibility to check a pet they have adopted/rescued even if it was from a shelter. Everyone failed the cat here, more so the owner.

This. There is a person in my neighborhood that has horses they neglected and a dog they also neglect. The dog is a great Pyrenees, and I don't believe she had ever been brushed. They called the cops on my husband and I for feeding the horses and dog and trying to brush the dog. Mind you we weren't on their property we threw the horse food over the fence from the road, and tried to get the dog to come to us to brush and feed her. She ate but I didn't have time to brush her all the way before they came out angry. We were given a warning for trespassing. Before we ever did that we tried to report them and nothing was done. After that incident they sold some of the horses, but not before one died. They never even buried her they just left her where she was. Their owner is a sheriff so maybe that's why they're allowed to keep buying more animals to neglect.

You can call local animal authorities and if they deem the owner abusive/neglectful enough they will not allow her to adopt another animal. She would be banned from all shelters and if she adopted outside of one, it would take 1 phone call for immediate removal of the animal. Just like having kids removed by CPS, you cant just have another kid without them being involved.
It doesn't work everytime it should, sometimes they dont have enough people for checks or not enough space, but it's definitely worth a call to animal rescues who would come and check the condition of the cat.
It doesn't have to escalate to court, its just another authority figure banning her from getting a new animal which would prevent this from happening again. That's how you stop animal abuse at the source.

Even the video "proof" of the cat being in "good health " had the guy said " you have to stop getting sick" and the cat still didn't look good. She had 2 pictures of "proof" TWO and the cat didn't look good in either. I had hundreds of pics of my cat within the first week. Those were the best pics she had?
She ADMITTED she knew the cat was sick and didn't get her veterinary care. . That's NOT naivete that's neglect. Full stop.
The guy is a pos too but saying that not telling the owner of a neglected cat (who went to a party the night she thought the cat got out btw) is worse than causing the death of an animal bc of your own selfishness is INSANE.
How is the guy who stole the cat and took it to the vet the one you're calling neglectful when the girl who ADMITTED SHE KNEW THE CAT KEPT GETTING SICK and didn't EVER take it to the vet is the one that neglected it!
She has every reason to lie that she "called the vet and they said it's just a cold. " A vet can't diagnose or give info like that over the phone without seeing the cat so that's prob bs. And if she really did call and tell the vet the cat was sick AGAIN they would not have told her "it's just a cold", they would have told her it needs to be seen. The guy also has corroborating witnesses with no motivation to steal the cat just to watch it die for no reason AFTER he took it to the vet.
She's not 8, she's an adult. I took care of my pets by myself since I was about 12. Making excuses for a selfish influencer who thinks a cat is a disposable content accessory is just BATSHIT to me. Interpersonal communication issues is not worse than neglecting a cat to death.
Everyone who knew and didn't do anything to save the cat are also despicable. And he absolutely should have told her but the two misdeeds are not even in the same ballpark.

They then took the cat, allowed it to become sick or did something strange so that it looked like neglect. That means that their stories are covered from Rhegan and they also have fuel to use against her incase she decided to come forward with the story. It also means the house is cat free. Do I think she should’ve taken it to the vet? Absolutely. Do I think giving your cat a water fountain and then posting it as a story means you love your cat? No, not at all. But recording a cat in that state and it supposedly unaliving in his arms is definitely fishy.

There’s something fishy about this story… there is WAY too much wrong with both stories to make sense of it all. A cat won’t just sit there and starve to death without making it known that something is wrong, or trying to escape, or something.
Isn’t the guy in the video saying “the cat stinks and shits everywhere” the same one that supposedly took the cat and brought the cat to the vet, and then lied to her about it running away?? But then he says they didn’t, they showed the vet video! It doesn’t make sense that they would take video of the cat to “show the vet” but not take the cat to the vet. Where’d they supposedly get the IV solution and meds? Where’s the papers from the vet? Why would they not say anything to her? Were they afraid they had something to do with it? If they knew the cat was starving, why didn’t they bring it food?
NONE of their stories make sense.
The only thing that I can possibly fathom (with them all being innocent) that would make sense is maybe the cat got into something it shouldn’t have and was only just showing symptoms of being in really bad shape after she left.. and that’s how they found her, but they believed it was from not being taken care of and starvation.
But she says she had gotten sick before… I just don’t know. Something is screwy.

So I have a cat I adopted, they neglected to mention he had feline herpes. He is fine, his brother is old enough to have immunity. The cat I adopted sneezes a lot and breathes weird from congestion. Nothing I can do nor can the vet do to help him. Her cat might’ve had feline herpes in addition to another condition if he was adopted

    • @patienceholmes841

Literally exact same situation as the other reply. I also adopted a cat with feline herpres and didn't know it at the time and he also sneezes, sometimes wheezes/breathes weird, sometimes has like runny eyes etc. but it's genuinely not a big issue. It's like asthma/allergies/hayfever. It's super common and has no expected effect on a cats life expectancy. The breathing weird thing would usually last for a couple mins at most with my cat and it was obvious he wasn't in any distress or pain. I didn't take him to the vet every time he had a flare up bc theres literally nothing they can do so what was the point of me spending my time and money and making him super anxious and scared just for them to say hmm yep its a flare up. If the shelter told her it was fine and she believed them then apart from being a bit naive she didn't do anything wrong.

I looked at the pic when she adopted 7, in the pic 7 doesnt look healthy possibly has FIV or some other illness. What is wrong with people! Who blurts out “I know someone who killed their cat” on some random podcast? What a pathetic and heartless thing to say. Killing a cat isn’t gossip or tea. That disturbed me.
I tend to think all of these people need to grow up and realize that the world doesn’t revolve around them. Why play that elaborate ruse to cover up allegedly helping the cat? Something is off with this. I don’t know what, as a mom I know when my daughter has tried to lie to me and I am getting the same feeling from some of these “friends” that I get when my daughter has tried to tell me a lie. That six sense moms get.
If you’re going to take on the role of being a pet parent then you need to commit to caring for the pet. That means vaccinations, feeding, giving fresh water, if it’s a cat having at least 2 cat boxes per cat (cleaning it daily), preventive exams and teeth cleaning, playing with the pet and if you’re going to be out of town make sure you have someone to care for your pet or board it. Boarding can be traumatic for cats, so have a friend or professional cat sitter take care of your cat if you have the financial means.

*Don’t adopt animals you can’t care for.* Seriously, they require a ton of attention, which is why I liken my cat to being my baby. Yes, a human requires more attention and time, but having a cat still requires a high level of care. Even if they are easier to care for than dogs, you can’t just skip town and ignore them. I’m getting really mad as I type this, so I’m just going to end it here.
