Why Demand For Armed-Drones Is Surging

  • Armed drones are growing in military importance as conflicts around the world have proven the utility of these effective tools of war. Companies in China, Turkey, and Russia, among others, have developed advanced remotely piloted aircraft that can use guided weapons on and off the battlefield.
The widespread use of drones in Iraq and Afghanistan by the United States to target and kill insurgents jump started a new chapter in the history of conflict. These high flying and remotely piloted aircraft could engage targets with impunity while the operators were safely working in a ground control station.
Keeping the crews out of danger also made the drones politically cheap to use over dangerous skies. Now more and more countries are gaining this military capability for their own purposes.
“At the moment, we've seen over 100 states worldwide using military drones and that number is growing significantly” said Wim Zwijnenburg, Project leader, Humanitarian Disarmament at PAX. “We have over 20 states that are using armed drones in conflicts or outside of armed conflicts.”
Although larger and more complex drones, like the General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper are not cheap to develop or operate, smaller drones are becoming more ubiquitous in conflict zones.
Limiting the proliferation of these smaller drones, and the ability to weaponize them, is a regulatory nightmare for government agencies around the world.
“Drones are just model airplanes with great sensors on them. And all of these are dual use and have been used in the civilian realm” said Ulrike Franke, a Senior Policy Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations. “And in fact, drones have risen enormously in the civilian realm over the last five to 10 years. And so controlling their export is really difficult.”
Watch the video above to find out why demand is surging beyond the U.S. for the multibillion dollar armed-drone market.

In North Iraq against PKK too.
We actually sold them to Azerbaijan and gave its training to them. We also sold many to Ukraine(6 sold, 5 on the line, 48 more planned) so if a war breaks out with Russia we will see them against Russian army. We also sold Qatar 6.
We also have Anka drone which is more strategical and expensive. We sold them to Tunis.
and we made TB3 versions which will be capable of taking off from and landing to carrier ships.
We just put Baykar Akinci and TUSAŞ Aksungur on the serial production. Akinci will be capable of a2a combat with their AESA radar.

@Phrnch Mdl it is not the only reason. Reaper is a High class drone. Anka is a Medium size drone. Anka is smaller and has less capability to carry ammunition also Reaper has better avionics but you can use 3 Anka at same time on 3 different areas to laser track a lot of targets. Turkey also using Laser guided missiles not only Drones. Drones spots Missiles Hit. This tactic equalize the capability difference.

UAVs are not remote controlled fighter jets (at least not yet and frankly i see some problems with latency). They are primarily eyes in the sky and some can be outfitted with guided missiles.

Well, gotta point out in Turkey's case, first attempt was actually with loitering munitions, designed to take out enemy Air Defences, by tracking enemy radar, or attacking enemy positions hid from air bombardment, Turkish officers back in 1998 asked Israeli's to develop a tech to meet their needs and you had harpy coming out of that, a few years later, Turkey asked Israel for Heron drones, for reconnaissance purposes, even though Israel said yes at first, the drones were piloted by Israeli pilots, had many malfunctions and issues that stopped them from taking of when the hour of need came, that is when Turkey asked US for Reaper Drones, and US said no, Turkey started developing the TAI/TUSAS Anka drone, which became the first successful, surveillance drone to join the inventory, UAV's in all aspect is seen as force multipliers, they increase the effectiveness of your military, allow you to cover huge grounds with minimal asset requirement, that is what they were mainly used for, but once the actual fighting in Libya and Karabag started it became apparent against an enemy, not prepared or used to asymmetrical/hybrid warfare, they can be used to produce deadly results accompanied with unorthodox tactics, for example, Azerbaycan Forces turned WWII prop planes in to drones and used them as bait for Armenian air defenses, they would turn on their radar, even for a small moment to get a lock on it, which would gave away their position to armed drones, which then proceed to annihilate them, not to mention this all happens on camera which you can broadcast later, for morale and propaganda. With the way it is, soon, everything that happens on every battlefield on the planet is gonna end up on TV's or Social Media for people to watch and that is terrifying, because for the loosing side, it means there is no way to keep their defeat hidden.

    ALPAGU Fixed Wing Striker UAV
In 2017, STM (Defense Technologies and Engineering Inc.) introduced ALPAGU striker UAVs, which is Turkey's most striking application in this field. ALPAGU is a fixed-wing national striker UAV solution that can be carried by a single soldier and fired from a launcher, can operate autonomously or with remote control, and can neutralize reconnaissance, surveillance and small-scale threats to be used in asymmetric warfare or anti-terrorism areas. ALPAGU can be used effectively against fixed or moving targets with its unique embedded and real-time image processing and deep learning algorithms. System; It consists of “fixed wing UAV”, “launcher” and “ground control” components.
As with the KARGU striker UAV platform, it is possible to add swarm and autonomous operation capabilities to ALPAGU platforms. President of the Presidency Defense Industry İsmail Demir announced that a study was carried out for the ALPAGU striker UAV system to gain swarm and autonomous operation capability. In the video shared by Demir, the destruction of the enemy target by the ALPAGU autonomous tactical striker fixed-wing UAV swarm, which was released from the Akıncı Attack UAV, was simulated. With the delivery of the Akıncı TİHA, a product of Baykar Defense, whose tests are still ongoing, to the force in the upcoming period, the ability to use herd and striker UAVs that can be released from the TAF, UAV will be achieved.
    The technical features of the ALPAGU fixed-wing striker UAV are as follows;

    Duty Duration: 10 minutes

When western regimes go around the world destroying, pillaging, murdering people under the pretext of "democracy, human rights, freedom of speech" (all of which are thrown out of the window in an instant when it doesn't suit them, by the way!), like the neo-colonists they still are, it's whitewashed or not even mentioned. However, when non-Western countries who do not listen to the USA do something, they will get labeled and made a boogeyman immediately. After reading a few comments I think the point being missed is the cost. For the cost of one F35 the military can purchase many many UAVs. If it is shot down oh well. SAM missiles are expensive too, forcing a military to expend all of its inventory of missiles opens the door to more lethal human piloted aircraft to follow with little resistance. It all comes down to cost and bang for the buck. Even an advanced drone is far cheaper than a 5 gen fighter.

Why is this video recommended to me? I know the answer, because Turkish Military showed the world how they can be utilized in capable hands. Nato didn't asked Turkey for instructions for no reason.
Turkish warfare changed the doctrine of war again.
