Jeez, I'd love a dollar for every Formula ford that has won a race using a Larner engine. I'm old enough to recall when Peter was building engines for Jamie to use racing against Steve Ellery in the early 90's. Credit to whoever set up the gear ratios for Luke - they're perfect for what is needed around Bathurst. Yes, it's bloody hard to launch the thing at the start, but once you're moving it all makes sense.
I live in the United States and I watch F1, MotoGP, AMA SuperBike, and NASCAR. Some of the MOST enjoyment I've gotten watching racing has been watching Formula Ford and Formula Vee racers that have posted their videos (from Bathurst, especially) to TH-cam. This reminds me of footage from hotly contested vintage races from the 1950's and 60's. The cars behave much more like that era and I like that. What great series and what a dramatic track. Great driving. I hope you keep posting more of it.
I raced in the UK FF Zetec back in the 90s with webber, Best racing ever, Gearing was what did it here, slower away but great advantage one you got going.... Nice one....
You should see the old bike footage, and even more frightening, sidecars. Some videos I spotted here on YT, the 1983 500cc Australian Grand Prix, 1974 unlimited GP, and a documentary, Descent on the Mountain 1981 Bathurst.
SOU DO BRASIL!!!
Bad start but it is a good thing that you are running against people you can trust to not do anything stupid the way you drive deep into the corners under them! Looks like fun.
You can see the red bias adjustment knob to the left of his dash. He's trail-braking so yes the rear gets squirrelly. Any car is a handful at the limit..
That car looks like a handful to drive with those small tires and the track seems bumpy as hell, but the driver looks like he is having a whale of a time holding on!
crazy driving. In them Formula Fords there little to no grip really. They have pretty much no downforce(no Spoliers etc) and they have them little skinny tyres witch are hard and treaded but geez some of the drivers can get them quick! Look at the steering wheel moving all the time! he's really at the limit of grip! he's really sliding/drifting the car everywhere, even on the straight the car is moving around!
Toe does affect straight line speed, but not that much. What is more interesting is the 5-speed 'box. I didn't realise you were allowed to use the 5-speed LD200 in Australian Formula Ford.
Everytime this driver downshifts it hurts my heart - the fact that he isn't heel & toe'ing very clearly unbalances his car under heavy breaking, stresses his engine and transmission and as can be seen makes him react very nervously on the wheel. Im not judging, though, i hope i make this quite clear. To be honest, except for onboard kart races i don't remember ever seeing such raw display of skill, his car control is outstanding, specially on a track like bathurst.
Along with not heel & toeing, he's not tucking his arms in towards his body to keep his arms from moving the wheel which is another reason why the car is weaving and shaking before he even gets to downshifting.
actually, it's because of the vibration. tracks aren't as smooth as most people would think, they jostle the steering wheel a lot. he doesn't drift a whole lot either.
I want to start racing in Formula Ford, I plan on going to driving school through SCCA and get a license. What is the best way to subsidize the cost of the car and the cost of running it? I don't have 100k burning a hole in my pocket.
No its a mixture of both.. Have you watched formula ford before? You dont fly by someone like they are standing still from toe! He has a gun engine mate... That and he has great drive out of the corners probably because he is familar with the track and the toe helps as well..
It's almost scary how fast you were going compared to everyone else.
Skinny tires and low/no downforce makes for good racing, who agrees? C:
I do
So do I
This helps while I wait for my racing sim wheel and pedals to arrive. Going through some withdrawals .
Absolutely. I love those rookie classes.
Holy Cow, I love this circuit!

Had no idea that FFs raced on that crazy circuit! Great video and some ballsy driving.

RIP for that launch, lost a solid 4 places of the start but a great comeback! Spectacular racing

Great driving, and I reckon he had the strongest engine too.
AI opponents on easy?
WOW... one of the greatest fight backs I have ever seen
You messed up your start on purpose, so you could give us this great footage ;-) What a wonderful track by the way.
Some great overtakes man
formula ford at a track like Bathurst... crazy. god bless Australia

even with a stiff clutch this guy is unbelievably fast. you the real mvp.
Great circuit and outstanding driving. Thanks for posting.
Going downhill , down shifting one handed through some fast tight turns with traffic , GOOD SHIT MAN
absolutely brilliant.
How can they follow so close with all that aero? Oh.....wait.....
what an awesome track. the elevation changes are just crazy.
What a great drive!!! Awesome and Respect - George Blundell
I cant even describe how much i want to do this too
Great footage! Excellent drive!!
A great drive on a great track dudes got some skill
Ahaha. That starts almost as bad as my Karting, but damn bro. Amazing drive, love Panorama. Wish I could go there someday!
Dude your insane great drive and a smart driver.

Good engines those Larner engines!
Nicely run race. Picked your passes well, kept smooth and consistent. Congrats.
F1 performance, right there
Beautiful circuit.
Brings back memeories
I had a Titan 6b
Has his engine builder given him a fifth cylinder?? This things got some serious waft!
What an awesome driver!
Excellent driving, hard on the brakes, late apex choice, really early on the accelerator and away you go!
awesome vid, great action
Insane performance!
Nice profile picture.
Outstanding driving!
Really sounds like that car wants to be revving out more in first second and third gear.
Some great driving
What a drive!
Never give up 😨 Way to go
This is legit racing, i would love to do this shit one day, i'll put it on my bucket list, great driving! all of those passes were clean and brave.
You can see the red bias adjustment knob to the left of his dash. He's trail-braking so yes the rear gets squirrelly. Any car is a handful at the limit..
Great driving, looks like somebody knows exactly what he's doing.
Bang on 👏🏻👏🏻
wow what a drive! GG
What a save 3:55
More like 3:51
amazing job
Great pilot, like senna used to do!
this circuit is great
I would expect most of the catch up time would be had in the turns but that thing was just faster then everyone else on the straights.
You can race on that track on real racing 3, it's one of my favorites !
1:11 ballsy!
The end of Conrod would be terrifying in one of these
nice ride buddy !!:)
You coulda bumped the clutch at the start to get some revs back when you bogged. Great video!
Excellent driving but I reckon there was a distinct power advantage.
That car looks like a handful to drive with those small tires and the track seems bumpy as hell, but the driver looks like he is having a whale of a time holding on!

3:50 ... Brilliant!!
big power motor...best driver.
Unkown: " You cant overtake there "
Luke: " This is Formula Ford! Pah! "
i agree. . .makes it all the more fun. .about how fast do you think these cars go, ,like on that straight?
Toe does affect straight line speed, but not that much. What is more interesting is the 5-speed 'box. I didn't realise you were allowed to use the 5-speed LD200 in Australian Formula Ford.
Good pilot
3:50 I nearly messed my pants just watching that. That was quite a bit of opposite steering input
Good engine. Papi gift!!! Straight line hero. Corner and downhill chicken...
Great track!!!
The genius who decided to let open wheel cars drive at Bathurst should make the F1 calendar.
Everytime this driver downshifts it hurts my heart - the fact that he isn't heel & toe'ing very clearly unbalances his car under heavy breaking, stresses his engine and transmission and as can be seen makes him react very nervously on the wheel.

Always some TH-cam who knows more than the guy behind the wheel. If he won he was doing it right.
Bathurst drove just right.
He's really skilled and brave to go onto that grass...just look at those tires! Is it just me or do the front tires have positive camber?
Formula driver's go deeper and come out harder.
What about these FF average lap speed on this track ?
Thanks for the upload !
Omg I just ran laps here a few weeks ago!
favourite drive
that was awesome
The boy can drive
that classic toca 3 track for the skline gtr cars was a nice teack
good stuff
Terrible start, great finish!!! My kind of race!!
pretty awesome, what is this guy doing now?
those funny little wheels ..
i think 'ryanacehigh' referenced 'toe' in relation to corner entry and exit speed.
anywhere from 115 to 125 mph give or that mph here or there if they have lead foot
formula ford is so much fun

Where is the new Formula Ford Ecoboost? it would blow them away!
:)(
Hey are you related to Steve Ellery?
No its a mixture of both.. Have you watched formula ford before? You dont fly by someone like they are standing still from toe! He has a gun engine mate... That and he has great drive out of the corners probably because he is familar with the track and the toe helps as well..
Crazy...
Although the senna said it was a category that needed speed
+vhdive lol "the senna"?
Who was the driver.
Me on my way home from work.
very conservative driving compared to the race leader yet still wins, that car is very well tuned he can thank his technicians for this win
you know you're a bad troll when you put Trolls in your username
some engine in that ridiculous gains on the straight
+Jack Wolfenden pretty sure is a straight 4
i know, its a 1600 crossflow with a twin choke weber which is what the series runs but compared to the other cars its a belter!
yeah, thats what i ment
Who is the driver?
He didn't divebomb anyone.
