    In the last 5 years Kylie too has gone to the masters and collaborated with Giorgio Moroder and Niles Rogers twice! He even joined her on one of her tours. Criminally underrated songs during its time but also alluding to what she was going to put together with this album. From another 42 yr old man to another - it’s Kylie’s ability to make music that you can’t stop bopping to whether you want to or not. She has this uncanny ability to insert joy into what she does which can’t be said for a lot of her contemporaries who demand to be taken seriously.

    I liked your analysis, we agree that Miss A Thing and Last Chance are bangers, though I feel like you’re not able to appreciate who Kylie really is after sleeping on her music 18 years. You should definitely listen to and analyse her other albums. There might not be any other “pop-star” with such a solid, cohesive and yet experimental discography. Golden (2018) is definitely another outstanding thesis in which Sky Adams was involved too, and I would say some of the highlights in her catalog are Aphrodite (2010), X (2007), Body Language (2004), Fever (2001), Light Years (2000), Impossible Princess (1998).

    Disco is stylistically very similar to Fever, just more nu-disco and less eurodance. Amazing polished production. A stunning pop record overall... the revival of melody in pop music.

    She is somewhat unique in that she has taken rather jolting detours into different genres of music throughout her career. You might be interested in hearing her collaboration with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds “Where The Wild Roses Grow” and her late 90s hook up with Japanese maestro Towa Tei “GBI”. She doesn’t always sing in the same way - this is her pop voice and she uses it effectively to bring believability to her interpretation of her songs. Don’t write her off unknowingly.

    • @melsmithmel
      @melsmithmel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kylie and Nick are both Australian so there's that connection there as well.When her boyfriend was INXS Michael Hutchience it wasn't expected of her to go out with a Rock god as a Pop Princess so she has taken some interesting detours in her life that have influenced her career.

    I think her vocal in this album is by choice. In the live show INFINITE DISCO, she sounds even nicer than she did in the studio. People don't quite get a 'queen' vibe, like Madonna or Beyonce, form her. Instead, she has always been a perfect healer: if you feel sad, come to Kylie, she knows a thousand ways to cheer you up on the dancefloor.

    Incase you didn’t know, Kylie collaborated with Giorgio Moroder in 2015 for a song called Right Here, Right Now. It would’ve fit perfectly into this album.
    You also made a comment about Kylie’s “baby” voice, which I can totally understand. Although I highly recommend checking out her 1994 track Confide In Me. It’s a fan favourite that saw Kylie took a more Indie direction with her music, and shows off her vocals.

    Sky Adams was instrumental in the development of her previous album from 2018, Golden. Her ability to swerve from country-pop to disco using the same producers is uncanny.

    Kylie was once called "The singing budgie" early on in her career by some snarky Australian journalists and she has evolved and worked on her singing voice as a result.. She hasn't become a one hit wonder like many of the pop artists that worked with Stock, Aitken and Waterman and it's a testament to her intelligence and work ethic that she has lasted so long. She's become a national treasure in Australia and in The U.K. Great review!!

    MISS A THING is the classiest and sexiest song on the album. Best structure melodically - lovely descending notes on the verses, a subtler chorus that doesn't announce itself as much as the others, perfectly breathy cooing all throughout, and it has the retro-smooth feel of classic 70's disco as opposed to the more jagged and bombastic nu-disco production of everything else on the album. If there's one song here that would age the best, it's this simply because of its timelessness.

  • @calinfus80s
    @calinfus80s 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Daft Punk's Discovery is way better than Random Access Memories, it's their masterpiece, give it a try.
    "Disco" experienced a revival in the late 90s and early 00s french house, nu disco, were the thing in that era.
    Thanks for reviewing!

    This year pop really goes disco: Jessie Ware, Dua Lipa, Roisin Murphy, Kylie, Carly (kinda)...

    • @Stupoider
      @Stupoider 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Carly's Dedicated era has been a strange blend of disco and her Emotion-era sounds, tracks like Julien and Summer Love lean really hard on disco (and are some of her best songs). Loved Jessie Ware's album, Dua Lipa's I enjoyed when it released but haven't felt like listening to it since. Good year for disco-tinged pop!

  • @kadikaado

    The thing is: people hated DISCO because it sounds too gay. Disco biggest fans are gay people. It's just simple homophobia, homophobia was so ingrained in people's mind back then that they couldn't even realize that. It's the same thing for Lady Gaga and Madonna, their image is so associated with gay people that regular people hate. Dance music that comes from Disco is basically that.

    The "vocoder" effect that Prof is talking about is called a "talk box". It has a long history, but was popularized in the 70s by many rock bands and was further used in many 80s "old school" dance music. Daft Punk definitely brought the effect into the late 90s/early 00s, however they certainly didn't invent the effect. Here is a song that features it prominently: th-cam.com/video/Q5Zjrcp45gI/w-d-xo.html

    The look of self-hate when you said "let the groove into...your soul..." That's beautiful stuff. I remember when I first realized I liked "pop/disco", and that look sums up the feeling. Now I was excited in advance for this album, and I love it. 😁 Gimme Emperor, or give me Kylie, just gimme a good beat.

    I am so glad you mentioned the line (paraphrasing here) perfect body but don't have the moves. Such an amazing line. But I hear some other song simularities or references from other songs her songs. For instance the pop/dance song hideaway by Kiesza in Kyles' song Real Groove after she sings 'Feel the heartbeat". Maybe you hear it, maybe not.

    It's interesting on Celebrate You Kylie uses the name Mary. Could it be that gay men of a certain age (ie those who came up at the same time as Kylie in 1987) refer to each other as Mary, like younger gay guys might call each other sis. Could be Kylie's nod to her base of adoring gays (of a certain age) and the fact Disco started in black and gay clubs?

      No disagreements here. It is embarrassing to admit that Daft Punk is what allowed me to enjoy such a rich genre of music. However, its the truth! There are a lot of things that I have come to enjoy that I only allowed myself to consider after a somewhat embarrassing entry point. Examples: World cinema thanks to Tarantino, Mexican Food thanks to Taco Bell. Sometimes we need help knowing which parties to look for.

    2. We were told it would only be shown once ever and not shown again- this was leaked on you tube the entire concert
    3. We are being told to pay all over again to stream yet again for a second time.
