Naw someone put together the clip last seaosn when he and Charlie talked about always escaping party’s together and then it shows him on the floor by himself that one broke me
@@marcusmelancon3426yes I saw that too, plus they escaped the party in the first season to have their first kiss, so Nick sitting alone on the floor in this episode broke me
Tao is straight, he’s the token straight character. Speaking of Tao, his moment with Nick was my favorite thing in this episode. I love the evolution of their relationship the most in the show.
That little moment with Nick and Tao was everything! Those two have come so far, and at the moment when Nick really, really needed a shoulder to cry on, it was so sweet that it was Tao who was there to provide it. No words needed, just 2 people who love Charlie very much being their for each other. It left me sobbing.
This is such a deeply moving, beautifully crafted episode (I sobbed at the scene where Tao comforts Nick in the hallway - their friendship has come so far since the bowling alley episode in season one). The screenplay structure is great, as is the editing, and of course the performances - but the way this episode models healthy relationships and platonic love, demonstrates the importance of asking for help and shows how recovery is not a magic cure, will genuinely help save lives and empower people to ask for help, I believe. And Derek, I love the therapy as floaties metaphor - a really concise way to explain how treatment can stop people from sinking and drowning. Thanks as always for a great reaction.
Back when Mr Farouk turned out to be gay, I was struck by how few straight characters there were, but had the same thought: straight people have had centuries of straight dominated stories, it’s totally cool to have queer dominated stories too. It’s even true to life in that a lot of us cluster together in safe areas of cities, or safe industries, and you CAN end up with most all your friends/aquaintances being queer at one stage of your life or another. You nailed the mental health journey, and acquiring skills and tools and then practising them over and over. Life can get incredibly better, to the point you don’t even fit the criteria for having a diagnosis any more. But we all still have our Occaisionally bad days, when we have to pull out our skills again, even if it’s only once or twice a year, as opposed to every day in the past. God it’s good having trained your brain to get to that better place.its super worth decades of work.
3:15 he self-harmed. Several times in this episode it is referred to in passing, not explicitly, in order to protect viewers who may fund discussion of self-harming triggering. They use the word compulsions often to refer to what he is doing to himself.
I was fine until the part where Tao was comforting Nick at the party. Seeing him cry when he has always been the strong one did me in. I love how far Tao and Nick’s friendship has come.
I would be over the moon if Netflix, and See Saw and Alice approved to have copies of that painting of Charlie that Elle did in this show...I would put that, and one of Nick on my wall in a heart beat!!!! Whomever did the painting is quite the artist IRL....I want the ability to purchase one....Please listen up Netflix, See Saw, and Alice!!!
The image of Captain America, helpless and without his shield, crying in Tao's arms on the floor, nearly broke me.

@@marcusmelancon3426 I watched that too and it hit harder than viewing the scene as it is. 😢

I had to pause because I was sobbing lol

High praise indeed from Tori! And I also love that Charlie brought the plushie that Nick gave him to the clinic with him.
i imagine Alice when writing heartstopper was like "no main character except for Tao is allowed to be straight" and i love that

Yep, same. I started crying again watching Derek’s reaction too - this show just hits so hard, but then also inspires utter joy.

You were fighting so hard to not cry… it was hilarious!!

Yes! I’m so happy for you that you got there!
Derek, great observations, insights and commentary. I appreciate your perspectives. You’re one of my favorite commentators on Heartstopper.
I love your pool analogy, it's insightful and could easily help anyone understand the process. Well done.
Elle and Tao are both straight. Our het besties.
I mean yes, but Elle is technically part of the lgbt

23:00 Ah! but Tao is straight!
@@hughcampbell-ww3bf Yep. As are all the parents as far as we know.
Seeing Nick cry sets me of every time without fail! Craig - Australia
Darcy as Shrek and Tara as Fiona was from when Darcy kept talking about going to prom as Shrek and Fiona.
"These kids are nice kids. They used to suck, now they’re nice." 😂 idk why I laughed at that when this is the saddest episode.. 🥹
Anorexia nervosa is sometimes paired with OCD. Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness.
Thank you, Derek! 💞

It reminds me of when Charlie comforted Nick in season 1. Nick was devastated going through his full on gay crisis.
GREATEST episode of ALL heartstopper
@@georgechristianjr Agreed. This episode should win awards - it really is that good.
I want that painting of Charlie as a TShirt signed by Alice and Joe!
