  • Hello Quilting Nation! We are moving along in finishing the illusion/#shadowbox quilt and in this video, I show you how I create border using scraps and the bind. I don't like to waste fabric so using your scraps not only to create the crumb but to make the border is a great way to be efficient.

I love your attitude about making quilting. Not all quilters are competitive. Many quilters make quilts to be loved and cherished for as long as they last.

Hi QM! I am a new quilter, starting at the age of 62. I found your videos and absolutely love them. You explain things very well, plus make whatever project/items you're working on FUN! I love scraps too but had no idea they could be made into such beautiful designs. Your quilt is as amazing as it is stunning. I am sure your wife loved it! Thank you so much for all that you do in teaching us newbies, and thank you for your service to our country!

I have to say that I LOVE your approach to quilting kind sir! What a breath of fresh air you are and your approach. What a blessing you found for your PTSD. My sewing room is my happy place as I suffer from depression. Love the interaction with your wife when you two are fabric shopping!!! Thank you for your service and all you have done and co tiniest to do! If I had enough time I’d make quilts for the homeless and hand them out…so I love your charity quilts. Thank you again❤️❤️❤️

I really like these videos! I'm sometimes intimidated by others picking apart my works of heart, but, when I heard you say, "Your room, your rules!" made me realize I do this for me first of all because I enjoy this. It's only second to giving it to someone else and seeing the surprise on their face and the joy they feel from being given something so full of love! You make things easy to understand and fun to watch! Great job on the camera end Yvonne!

Quilting Marine- I've recently discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying your content as well as your matter-of-fact yet fun manner. The camera work is terrific (awesome job Mrs. Marine!!) and the length of your videos aren't too long or overwhelming because you break the job into smaller and more manageable tasks. I love how Mrs. Marine zooms in so we can see exactly what you are doing and that you often tell us and show us what you're doing TWICE so we are clear how you do it. I especially appreciate your humor and the way you make quilting fun and yet very achievable. Thanks for the message of how being creative is good for the mind and the soul- you are so right!!!

That's exactly how I feel. A lot of people want me to put my quilts on display, I dont want to as I dont want die hard perfectionists picking out all the mistakes ( I know they do) I look at someone else's work and I'm just in awe of the talent.

I just really LOVE your attitude in the quilt room....you're encouraging me to give myself permission to NOT worry about perfection...and to just let the joy of the process be what it's all about! I've only done a couple quilts, and I think I'm going to enjoy the process even more when I start the next one!

I thought I would share that I have been teaching my grandchildren to sew, (Logan 11 years of age, Savannah 8 years of age). They have both made their own face masks, and I have them sewing scraps together to make a scrappy quilt. They will be making their own quilt with 5 inch square. Logan's will be Mine Craft themed and Savannah's will be Unicorn themed. I want to share what Logan said as he was practicing on paper. He said, "Grandma, this is so relaxing." I posted pictures of them sewing on the mindless crafting Facebook page. Keep up the great work. I look forward to the new videos! I continually tell Logan and Savannah, "Your Quilt room, your rules and Your craft room, your rules."

Hello, first off I don't quilt. The last time I used a sewing machine I ran over my finger... it hurt..oh, it was a treadle machine! Other safer (for me, lol) crafts, yes. Anyway, I came over from *Mindless Crafting* . I took a peek through your videos and like what I see. You're talented. But, the real reason I'm here is to *THANK YOU* for your dedicated service to our Nation as a 🎖️ 🇺🇸 United States Marine 🇺🇸 🎖️! Much Respect and Appreciation to you, and your family as well.. I believe the family serves also. I'll check in from time to time and see what's being created. Asking God to Bless you and keep you safe in His Loving Arms. Have a Blessed week ahead. *LK*

Love this video. The best reason for using the bias seam versus the straight line seam in your binding is to distribute the layers of fabric along the edge of the quilt. This will cut down on the lumpiness of the edge when you get to a seam and it also puts less stress on the needle when attaching it to the quilt. I hope this helps.
