  • Today we're looking at the VW California Beach T6.1 bed and storage options.
I'll show you how to set up the bed, the comfort mattress, a quick look at the upstairs bed (which is no different to the Ocean and Coast upstairs bed) and the storage in the California Beach.
Next time we look at the Beach T6.1 we'll be looking at the kitchen and gas, so stay tuned for more videos on this model!
Let me know what else you want to see on the Beach, Coast, Ocean or Grand California!
    Thanks for watching. California Chris.

    Thanks for the video Chris.
We now consider ourselves Beach veterans with our 2017 Grape Yellow model. Between June 2017 and June 2018 we spent a year travelling 25,000 miles around Europe with two toddlers (ages 2 & 3) a border collie dog and her six month old pup.
You asked about fridges. We have the Dometic CFX28; big enough for four for four nights. It suffers from voltage drop if connected with the cigar socket due to poor connections, and will cut out when there is still plenty left on the leisure battery. This problem still exists if set to “lo” (cut out below 10.4 volts).
We have resolved this issue completely by hard wiring the fridge to the leisure battery and running our own circuit with Anderson connectors. We can now plug the fridge in at three places:
    1. Behind the front passenger seat, and we strap it to the seat to stop it moving about.
    2. Under the multiflex. The circuit runs under the trim to the rear jack compartment where there is an Anderson connector for it.
    3. Externally. The circuit exits the van via the tailgate loom, and the Anderson connector is concealed within a cavity in the awning casing. To get it there I drilled a small hole in the awning casing end cap.
Using Anderson extension leads I can have the fridge next to the BBQ under the awning or in the kitchen area of a driveaway awning.
    The setup works for us.

Love your videos Chris. Have been watching all winter until I finally got my Beach in March. Just put the back part of the bed board up and as you say loads more room. But now my comfort mattress doesn’t fit in?

Thanks for that video Chris, we were really interested as we have had a 4 seater Beach for 2 1/2 years which we love. There are a few little improvements in the new model that we like.

Chris. So on the beach there is no way to tilt / raise the end on the lower bed as on other models when sitting up in bed? And is also the same if you opt for for the 3 seater rear bench on the beach? Thanks.

Hi Chris. I noticed recently that newer T6.1s no longer have the Sport (d/S) on the DSG gearbox. Do you have some infor on what has changed?

Hey thx for the great informative vids! Would you care to comment on today's gossip about the T7 multivan california?

I think it could end up being a nice update. I think the Multivan looks pretty good!

Hi Chris, once again, a very informative video, I didn't realise you could extend the space by lifting the the smaller Flexi-board up. Fantastic! We recently purchased a Beach in May and we love it.Just one question, I noticed that you managed to turn the front seats around so that they are at a slight angle, facing towards the centre of space. I can only manage to turn my seats around at a 180 degrees, it will only click at this point. Is there a way of getting the seat to lock at the angle you demonstrated in the video?

Sorry for the delay in replying to this - the seats aren't locked in place when I put them at an angle like this, so if you want them to click it will only be at 180 degrees like you said.

Hey Chris, great channel! question for you, I am looking at a California Beach 6.1 but the one available comes with a 3 seater in the back but I would prefer a 2 seater. Is that possible to switch the rear seats out?
