I find all of your videos educational & entertaining. I am 76 years old but still like to learn. Thanks for the ramblings. Please leave it up. ATB regards from the UK
I know so little about machining, I was a welder until retiring. I once ran a turret lathe at work for six months. Hated every minute, my training was here is the start button and stop buttons. I had no clue, set ups was nightmarerish. I used to think, hey this is kind of neat making a chunk of metal look like something else. My true love was sub-arc and mig welding. I was taught a lot by the old timers and a lot of trial and error. Since my childhood, I spent lots of time with my elders. They had stories and life experience to share. Well now you are one of my elders, not by much though. I'm in the seventies now, but I so enjoy your rants and stories, never tire of them. No matter what you post in the future, I'll be looking forward too, and watching. One thing I did learn running a lathe, how to break every shear pin in it with one shot. Took maintenance two weeks to fix. Running a turret into the chuck was the trick.
Hey Teach, I'm 75 yrs. old, retired law enforcement (32yrs), and disabled veteran. 5 Yrs. ago I became very interested in machining and now have a milling machine, lathe, drill press, bandsaw (2 of them), mig and tig welders, welding fabrication table, CNC plasma table, and 2 classic cars ('62 Impala and '64 Chevelle) I am building in my 3 car garage. The only knowledge I had for any of this was my high school shop classes. Everything else I have learned at TH-cam U. Don't stop making your videos. This is where I learn how to do the most enjoyable things I have done in my life. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Wow! I am 30+ years retired law enforcement too. I have a machine/welding fabrication /auto repair shop too. I just finished painting my Bridgeport (48" with a 8" riser). I also have a Summit 19-4-60 lathe, a Miller 210 w/spool gun and a Miller 250 Syncrowave tig runner with a PC300 pulse controller and 2 welding, lay out tables. Mr. Pete has been my go to shop teacher for years. I really appreciate him !!
Mr. Pete, I just discovered your videos about a month ago. Your comments were spot on in your video. I spent my whole life like others working to make sure ends were met for my family. Never really had the time or money to enjoy my dream hobbies and etc. My father was a master fitter welder so I was raised around a big shop with a lot of fabrication and machine work. Time marches on and dad is long since gone and my children are grown. Now I seem to have the time in life to enjoy a hobby I have always loved, restoring old Harley-Davidson motorcycles. I have been setting up a shop this past year dedicated to just that. I do all of my own sheet metal fabrication and work and decided adding a lathe was necessary to help me with parts that are hard to find that I may have to make myself. Your channel has been an inspiration and breath of fresh air towards my education and understanding of the old craftsman lathe I purchased. I had not been in front of a lathe since high school metal shop learning from a good shop teacher like yourself. You did a series of videos on a resto that you did on the very lathe I acquired and without that it would have been a much more challenging task for me. I like your opinions, they allign with mine 😂. If you lived next door I am sure we would get along perfectly. You keep putting out the content and educating us. I love the nostalgia of the old machines and what they and the men that ran them did to build this great nation. Thanks Mr.Pete for the content and knowledge you share. Dwayne Conroe, Texas
I watch every video you publish. I found the channel many years ago before purchasing a lathe. I learned how to do many things with my lathe from your teaching. I come here now to hear your stories and to learn anything you are willing to share. Thank you for what you do and the effort you put into teaching. You were a legend way before youtube, and I bet there are many of your students that would say the same. Thank you.
I guess I’m old, although I hate to admit it, TH-cam is my go to for education. I’ve learned, repaired and most importantly saved money by watching videos. Keep doing what your doing Lyle. You are appreciated.
Mr. Pete, I'm ashamed of us as an audience for not watching the wonderful Reed/Sherr-Tumico video more! I enjoyed it immensely, and all your videos about the histories of these precision tool makers. I think you're right about the youth and their short videos (and I say that as a young viewer -- not yet 50!). I do hope you won't get hopelessly discouraged; your videos are exactly what I come to TH-cam for. As for the tractors plowing, I watching with interest hoping to see some of my favorite Farmalls go by and was not disappointed. If you enjoy those events, maybe it would be easier to film the tractors off the field, owners starting them up and hooking up, etc. -- ask them some questions maybe ... I was particularly interested to see how many bottoms each model was pulling and how hard they seemed to be working. Keep up the good work!!
@@mrpete222 I think that's a failing in the audience more than the videos - and I bet if we dug into the numbers, over a period of years, we'd find that they generate more "long tail" views than a lot of other things. In some cases, yours may be among the best - or only - sources for some of that information. I suspect you are at a disadvantage having been on YT for so many years ... the competition has just grown and grown, and the way people interact with the site is more and more driven by "the algorithm" that presents them with whatever it things they'll want to watch. The more videos of bad drivers and kittens falling over there are, the harder it is to find the good stuff...
Hey Mrpete222! Thanks for the top quality ranting! The entertainment value is off the charts! Keep it up please! Greetings from the north shore mountains of Vancouver British Columbia Canada! Ride ride ride!
Mr. Pete, I am a postwar child (1948) here in the UK. We have just lost our last primary steel manufacturing plant in Port Talbot, Wales. A disaster that politicians will never notice or care about. I can’t believe it - UK, the country that invented the Industrial Revolution. There are still the those of us in the UK and USA who treasure invention, engineering and science - all combined in education, surely the lifeblood of civilisation. Where I live in Bolton, north of Manchester, I’m surrounded by younger families who don’t even own a hammer or screwdriver, so when we are all gone, the outlook will be bleak. Everybody sat at home in front of a computer looking at how things used to be made. Best wishes from the UK. 👍🇬🇧👍🇺🇸👍
Here in the eastern USA we will soon feel the sting of all the outsourcing due to the longshoremen's labor dispute. Never will understand why our politicians let this happen.
@@Vintageguy73 It’s completely mad. America’s manufacturing potential is without equal - anywhere. Both our countries lead the world in invention, innovation and manufacturing expertise. I’ve seen so much disappear in my lifetime it’s difficult to comprehend. Thanks for your comment.
Thanks, Mr. Pete. I'm 71 and I always watch your vids and others to the very end. Being a creator, I understand your frustration. "Most and thankfully not all" of the young people today don't want to learn a craft for themselves. I can spend hours filming and editing a vid and it will do badly. Then I can make a short easy vid that I don't expect to do well, and it will do great. There is no rhyme or reason that I can see. So, thank you very much for your time and effort. Your channel is my favorite machining channel. Cheers from Clint in Virginia.
I am 62 years old, and retired from my very stressful job about 3 years ago, because I could, and it was getting to be to much and my health was suffering. Retired, and am feeling much better now! Anyway, I wish that there would have been a place like this where I could have gotten all the good pointers on machine work 30 or more years ago! I do have all your videos that you refer to, and am going thru some of them as time permits. In my Dad's garage/workshop, he had a nice 16"x 6' South Bend toolroom lathe, and a 1J Bridgeport mill, and a small Logan lathe. Since he passed away at 98 years, I moved into the old home place and am starting to get things organized and your video's are VERY helpful for producing some of the things I want to make. I want you to know I appreciate the efforts you put into your videos!
I watch your videos to learn. And when you do videos making projects,I find them very interesting. Your channel helped me learn how to run different machines. Thank you.
Hi Mr Pete. You have been an inspiration to me and a great educator for with out folks like you so much would be lost I loved all your auctions videos as well as your toolbox and shop tours. Your oil and lubricant video was so helpful to me and all the steam engines and especially the mayonnaise air pump was amazing! You are and will forever will have had a positive impact. I also am impressed with all your books and manuals and magazines to wish I had some of them. You and I love many of the same things and I hope you continue providing these incredible educational videos. God Bless
I'm a 50-year-old, hobby machinist, and I watch your videos constantly for entertainment and educational purposes. I appreciate everything you do, I Hope you continue to create videos about machining, but understand the market shift. Thank you for all or your work over the years
For nearly a decade before I retired you were the go to instructor for all new machinist. We had a computer and monitor in the toolroom and you don't know how many hours young machinist would stare at videos of yours learning an intricate operation. It must bring you a great sense of pride to realize that you slowly replaced the machinist's Bible. You do whatever makes you happy because at this point you certainly deserve it!
At 50 years old, you have inspired (or infected) me with a fascination for machining. I will be forever grateful for the education that you have given me over the last 10 or more years. I bought a little 10X24 engine lathe about 5 years ago and I just invested in a rotary phase converter so that I can upsize the lathe and a add a mill to my shop. That all started with you, Keith Fenner and Adam Booth. Thank you sir! Keep up the education, I’m on TH-cam for the free knowledge. I owe my education to wise men, like you who are willing to pass it on.
I find watching your videos, whether educational/instructional or thoughtful elocution, to be a worthwhile and rewarding use of my time. Please continue to enlighten us. Rant on!
You have videos that taught me how to run CNC machines. Manual machining does translate to CNC. It helped me out of jams many times. I thank you. I've been doing CNC machining for 37 years. I found your channel 4 years ago. It made me look at all my machining just a bit differently. Turned out i didn't know it all and you made it better. Thank you again Mr. Pete. Keep going. Keep doing what you do.
dear mr Pete. Im sure some of us are slowing down But be assured You changed my Hobby Life Some 15 years ago I have purchased many machines and had such a great shop life and Its because of you and your work !!!!
Dear Mr Pete. Some years ago I was asked to teach a couple classes about electronics but more like “the practical way”. Ok. I accepted but soon discovered the pupils aged about 15 “couldn’t be exposed to temperatures above 80 deg C (176 deg F) because it could be too dangerous”. How could they use a soldering iron? Later on a friend who is a university teacher told me that he tried the same thing but that about half the pupils got burns in the first half hour of soldering iron manipulation. Young people in mechanical terms just know how to eat and manipulate the cell phone. Eventually something else below the belt.
Mr. Pete is fueled by coffee. A 21 minute rant. I watched every minute. I like the plowing. I like the machine tools and the steam engines. Thanks Mr. Pete
Mr Pete I like your videos and the very first part I machined was because of you and that was making some machinist clamps. Since then I have expanded my knowledge of machining, and the tools you need to do it. Plus I enjoy it, The fact you can see a part or tool hidden in just a peace of round stock. then make it yourself. Thanks
You have taught me so much. If it wasn’t for you I would not know how to run the old South Bend lathe at my work. Or the Atlas lathe I have at home. Thank you for teaching and inspiring me to have an enjoyable hobby. Thank you you’re the best.
Thank you for the shout out and your great content and dedication all these years. If you ever get up to northern WI or even Minneapolis to pick up auction winnings, get in touch with me. I would love to meet up. Thank you again, you have been an inspiration to so many!
Thank you, Josh. I have been watching your videos also and you do a fine job. Keep it up. Maybe we will meet someday Both my grandma and grandpa Peterson came from Norway and Sweden and initially ended up in Minneapolis. Then they moved to Menominee Wisconsin.
@@mrpete222 I grew up not far from Menomonee, in Prairie Farm. Fled to Spooner right after high school and stayed here. My email is on my about page and all over my website. Feel free to reach out. Would love to chat more.
I have always and still do watch and learn from all your videos! Pleading for you to continue your instructional videos for everyone, either now or later. There is no other teacher on youtube like you. I like many others enjoy all your different content, educational, instructional, rants, ect. PLEASE keep up the good work!
Old 60yr man here setting up my garage shop for retirement, mini mill, 8x32 chinese lathe with a nice 1.5" bore, but the cherry is an unknown brand made with upside down small gauge rail track as the ways, upgraded bearing replacement for babbit, i use the small machines rebuilding the old one. Thank you for your videos
I have really enjoyed your videos over the last 10 yrs or so. Just like your comments about "graduating from My Shop Class with Mr. Pete", I too feel like I have seen enough content that it is not the same as in the beginning of this journey for me. Because of your instruction I have been able to fund some really good machine purchases by buying/rebuilding and selling old Lathes. I have rebuilt 10 Atlas, 2 Logan's & 2 South Bend's in the last 7 years. With each new sale I have been able to invest in all the tooling needed to support the ability to make my own repair parts.
Mr. Pete……thanks for all you do I’m 72 . My high school shop machinist was Mr. leabeu ww2 vet fighter pilot he lost one leg and three fingers he was shot down by a Zero. On the first day of class he would look at all of us Freshman and say, “ you think your tuff “ then proceeded to stick a straight blade Stanley screwdriver into his prosthetic leg and say,” now that’s tuff… get it” . He ruled with an iron fist he would hit you on the head with a shop dust pan. When he said clean your station you cleaned your station. Even the big football players shook when he walked by. BUT….he was the best shop teacher ever! He explained not how to fix something but why did it fail in the first place. His fighter stories had us mesmerized. His talent on a Bridgeport J head was astounding. I still remember all the important things he taught us. So you never know by what you taught how much of an influence you had and will have…..you are like a Time Machine….you gives us your knowledge and we share that knowledge and so it goes on and on never ending. Just do what you do the rest will take care of itself…..thanks, Steve
Education of the highest caliber. And best of all, for free. Not only that very entertaining to watch. I'll never understand people who pass by this opportunity to become better and more knowledgeable. Thank you for all the effort you put into the videos. Take care.
Hey Pete, as an old guy, I still watch your stuff, so I'm not dead yet! I do watch most of the videos. As a small niche-creator, I also see a drop-off. As a result, I have slowed my posting down to a few a year. I would like to post more, but as they say, "The juice is not worth the squeeze" Keep up the wonderful stuff; you are still much appreciated...
In my mid 50’s now and I’ve purchased an Atlas 12” due to your content. I’m slowly picking up all of its accessories. I’ve learned quite a bit from you and I enjoy restoration projects. Keep making videos please.
Mr Pete I started watching About 10 years ago because I wanted to know the correct way to sharpen a drill bit. I knew how to sharpen one but wanted to know the right way to sharpen one. I've been with you ever since. During that 10 year period I had a pretty severe heart attack and have been handicapped ever since. i didn't have any machine shop tools other than an old drill press. Now I am passionate about rebuilding and restoring Vintage and Antique machine tools. thousands of dollars and a gazillion hours of watching and soaking up the knowledge I am now pretty good for a 72 year old crippled man. Before I forget it I would like to say that You have been a big part of my healing. Restoring and rebuilding these old Cast Iron Beauty Queens keep me going every day just as if I had a real job. I learned of Abom69 Keith Fenner and Keith Rucker and many more from you. So, consider yourself the spring board for the success of the Machining channels through out You Tube. I think they all should pay you royalties for getting them noticed. Nuff Said
Thank you for your videos whether you're making chips, ranting, or sharing your expertise in tooling. I live in central IL and travel on I-55 to Chicago area on business. Each time I see the Streator exit I think of Mr. Pete and hope someday to meet you. Although I'm a woodworker I've learned so much by watching your videos. Thanks again.
Thanks Mr Pete. I understand what you are saying. Most of what I see and hear in all forms of media annoys me. I have a very low tolerance for stupidity. I love to learn new things. The more useful knowledge you have, the easier it is to navigate life. As a side note, when I watched Mr Topper's video, I subscribed and set the notifications to all, and I have not gotten a single video notification for that channel. I do seem to be getting all of yours. But then again I have been watching all of your videos all the way through for many years. I hope you have a great week.
Much wisdom in this video Mr Pete 👍👍 I have to confess that I definitely fall into the "Graduated" category. When I first set up my little workshop and got my lathe I watched hundreds of videos from many "workshop" TH-cam creators. Once I had learned the skills I needed for my particular hobby, I watched less and less. These days I hardly watch any "workshop" videos. That being said I still watch your videos, why, well I for one like to hear you talk and I will continue to do so as long as you make them. So please, keep them coming. All the best, Alan.
Good Morning. The $22.00/mth I pay Google for no ads, Google owes to you. The other channels I subscribe too, is due to you. The 8 lathes, 1 mill, and shop I own, is due to you. I'm not a machinist, I just play one on TH-cam. I am a proud student of Mr. Pete.. I am retired and re-discovered a passion. Thank you. The University of Tubalcain, the best education on earth
I am 65, and I enjoy all of your videos. They are quite interesting and informative, and there is also some humor. I appreciate the hard work you put into them. Thank you very much.
Mr. Pete I watch your videos every chance I get. I would sure miss them if stopped making them. I have learned a lot from them. Thank you for making them.👍
I’m 67 and I enjoy learning now more than ever before. So I like seeing work being done more than just talking. But I did enjoy this one .Thanks Mr. Pete
Well......I'm 62 and I've been watching your videos since 2016. The information provided is amazing. I particularly love the safety aspect. I think that as long as you have information about machining and tooling and stories about your life experiences, I will watch. Great videos.
Your viewer group may be "small", but it includes ME! I seldom fail to watch to the very end, except when the still pictures are repetitious to the video content. E en in retirement I have been occasionally too busy to watch all of your videos. I feel cheated when busyness forces me to make your videos second place on my schedule. Keep the videos coming. I still want to learn.
Been watching you almost since the beginning. I watch from start to finish and have learned a lot from your videos. What ever you post we will be here to watch. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your ramblings in general. As you say,,, edumatainment.
Hey. I'm only 58...don't you dare call me old. Seriously, I love your videos and I have learned so so much from you. I'm not even a machinist ...I just a person who has 3 Unimats and a Taig. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Phillip
You truly enjoy this type content even what they tank. Gives me/us a look into your soul. I personally look forward to each of your videos. I am also older and a hobby machinist and have a fairly good shop at home, better than most but not as extensive as yours. I know the machining world has gone CNC but in my opinion you still need the basics of machining to get the most out of CNC. The machinery handbook is still and will always be the foundation for what we do. Keep it up! Every time I turn on my computer I search to see if you have released a new video even if it is a rant. I do like some content more than others but that is normal in my opinion. There is obviously a lot of knowledge and ability sealed up in your head and we/I appreciate your willingness to share it.
Mr. Pete, I'm not certain when I started watching, estimating 4 - 5 years ago when I was looking for Bridgeport Vise Restoration, or some such. I've purchased a couple courses and look forward to the new videos as I work my way through previous stacks. It is clear to me that you are a great teacher and I very much appreciate that I can continue my shop education with you. Like others have noted, you remind me of the shop teachers of my youth, Mssrs. Lagowski (electronics & plastics), Weber (Metal), and Ptak (wood). That said, the monetization of the videos for a niche audience is remarkably similar to the salaries of teachers. That is, not nearly enough for the meat and potatoes lessons you give. And like seeing one of your students later and hearing from them the kind words of appreciation for the work you did teaching them, I thank you now for the lessons you are giving us. Winter is coming, outdoor chores should be slowing shortly, as a friend noted, "it's God's way of telling us to go down in the basement and (hobby)." Take care!
Thank you for a very sensible comment. You are right, the pay is not very high for teachers and even less for my TH-cam videos, lol. I have been reading comments on my latest video for the past half hour, and I consider that to be a reward in itself I
You know you are watching a hard core machinist when his pointer is a screwdriver, grin.... I always watch to the end as I don't want to miss a thing, such as the description of "the illustrated man" and "that guy has his left turn signal on all the time." Yes, opinions are like noses, we all have one (cleaned up for You Tube), and our opinions are the same. Keep it up Mr. Pete, including that antique tractor plowing....
Long time subscriber Mr Pete! 29 year old carpenter from belfast, Northern Ireland. Never touched a "Chip making" piece of machinery in my life. Would be your apprentice in a heart beat. The finest channel on TH-cam and the only creator that makes Edutainment the way it should be👏 Thank you for everything Mr Pete. it is so appreciated by so many. God's speed my friend.
Mr Pete i love your channel ! I'm a volunteer at a loco museum and I tell some of my patrons, We are all teachers and students at all time's !!! Thanks for Teaching Us.
I've watched your videos years ago. Always find them educational and informative. As you've mentioned life has been busy and ive completely forgot about your channel. My father passed away recently and I've aquired his machining tools and the first thing that came to mind was you. My dad was a machinist for years and have always loved machining. Him introducing me into machining at a young age was what made me interested. Still enjoy your uploads and I hope you and your family is well.
TH-cam changes what it promotes on a regular basis, and if you don't adapt you lose out. Your last temporary video did well because that's exactly what TH-cam likes, in this case a talking head ranting about something, not polishing the ways on some old junk lathe. Maybe one day it'll change back to liking quiet long-form education over flashy hyped-up entertainment (but I doubt it).
Greeting Lyle! BasementShopGuy here. I’m still here man! My videos have slowed down a lot but that’s becuase I have a full shop and am constantly working. I have to give credit and let you know that I too am a student of yours. Back in 2010 I used to watch one of your videos over and over and I learned so much from you. Thank you! You and I met a few times as well at John Saunders open house and I think at one of Stan‘s bashes. I also agree with everything you said in this video about the younger generation And how they are simply not interested. But they are a product of our economy in our world as we know. Anyway, I hope you still keep putting videos out because I watch them all the time!
Hello Several other people commented that you are still alive and well and producing videos. I just had not seen any in a long time. I’m glad to hear you are still at it and I understand how difficult it is when you’re working full-time. Thank you for watching and I am very pleased that , my videos helped you I’ve been putting out lots of videos lately, but it’s like a salmon swimming up stream, lol.
Mr. Pete, I look so forward to your videos when they come out. I have learned so much from them instructionaly and also very much enjoy the other side from antidotes to ramblings. You are a true treasure here and look forward to many more in the future. There is a reason your in my top 5 on youtube.
I love your videos Mr Pete! I started watching years ago after getting an old South Bend lathe. You were a great help to me and taught me a ton. Thanks for all you do!
Hi Mr Pete what i miss from your channel is some of the projects you built . one of my favorites was a test build 14'' bandsaw very helpful i converted a 14'' Delta wood cutting saw to metal/wood .hope you remember the video i sent . You built a lot of shop tools, great ideas well i have invested in two lathes and two mills after getting the machine bug and I'm still trying to make my first video . Thanks to you TH-cam creators . JM
I plan on making more project videos. But I always need ideas and inspiration. Believe it or not, some of my Projects videos do not attract many viewers.
In my experience, you are 100% on the money. My channel is small, and I have been physically unable to do videos for a few years now,. However, I remember a few times that I expected a video to get views and they did terrible. The couple that did well were the ones I expected nothing from. It is sad that the younger generation doesn't care about learning this stuff. But in my experience, they lack creativity and critical thinking skills. If they cannot click a button on a phone, they have no interest. That is largely why we are in these days. I will go no further with that train of thought. Me? I would have loved nothing more than to spend hours with you in the shop. I have a deep passion for building and creating things. Your channel has been a blessing to me over the years, and I love the teaching videos most. You are an inspiration sir. Thank you for all you do.
Love your rants! And, thanks for sharing your Channel analytics--very interesting...makes one appreciate that you are putting in all this effort making educational content not for the money, but for the good of humanity. Like the Three Stooges said, "For Duty and Humanity"!
I still get notified and I've been a subscriber for years. Please return to machining and casting. No more auction videos. I won't tell you "you rock" or "keep on keepin' on" or some other mindless shibboleth. Mr. Pete is better than that. You and I remain true to our vision, our philosophy and our plan. Please concentrate on teaching.
I started watching TH-cam during the pandemic. My two teenage sons started watching with me and are now both more educated and familiar with shop tools and techniques. We have now put together a pretty capable workshop and having fun building things together as a family all thanks to content from folks like you.
Sir…since I have found your channel I have enjoyed your videos and the information as were as commentary you share. I was blessed to have parents that raised my siblings and myself on a farm and fixing and repairing things was a necessity Of life. Those lessons have served all of us so incredibly…sadly today’s youth have NOT BEEN CHALLENGED. Please continue to share your knowledge and skills…your efforts are being appreciated. May you and your family be blessed
What I enjoy about your videos is the vast array of knowledge you have to share. I am a latecomer to the world of machine shop work. I am in my 60’s now and I can remember back in my teens when my grandfather used to let me use his garage to work on my cars. He took pride in imparting his knowledge about working on cars and mechanical things. He was a high school dropout who taught himself everything about mechanical work, welding and more. If he didn’t have a tool for the job, he made it. I lost him in the late 1980’s. I can’t count the number of times I have wished I could still pick his brain or watch him make things. Finding your channel has been the next best thing to having him still in my life. So, thank you for all you do and share here. I enjoy learning from you.
You got me into machining just after I started watching your videos about 6 years ago. Love it and have enjoyed making some of your projects. I always get a laugh and always learn something valuable, please don’t ever stop!
It’s funny how ranting videos are more popular than educational videos. It goes to show how disappointed people are with the way of life today. Hopefully the leadership will change for the better. Too bad Ronald Reagan isn’t around. We need a great leader.
Mr Pete, I love watching your videos and I have learned so much from you. I consider myself as a learner I love to learn. I have learned so much from watching you the years . I will be here until the y are no more videos to watch. Keep 'me coming!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Pete, you are greatly appreciated. You remind me of my brother in law Keith Gaskins who taught me many things about machining. He passed in 2004 and is greatly missed. If you and your wife ever get down around Atlanta, please come and stay with us. it would be an honour !!
Agree with you 95% on issues. I don't get notified often, and forget to go look. I do recall by have a project and searching what is out there. At times I'm re-watching one of your videos to remind me of process. I use you-tube for education purposes for the most part. Politics info I go to Rumble to get around censorship. I don't agree with it all, but like the unfiltered opinions so I can decide vs Screw-tube knowing what is best. Got a pdf of one of your books, It was great source of info for me years ago.
At 62 years of age. I am just a kid enjoying your videos. Good things come to those who wait to the end. I always enjoy your thoughts and ideas. Please remember to give the next installment of your boat trip.
Hi Pete, like you said I have to unsubscriibe to channels I enjoy because the notifications and such block up my utube feed and there is not enough time to watch them all. I find engineering channels like yours so much more enjoyable than it was as an apprentice. Great to see you in flying form again.😉👍
I enjoy and learn from all of your videos. Even the temporary ones that should remain permanent. Very Interesting to learn how YT evaluates and compensates creators for videos. I’m constantly amazed and disappointed at how many viewers completely miss the point of educational machining videos. Adam recently made a replacement shaft for a large lathe showing all the steps including single point threading and machining a 5/8 hex using an index head. Several viewers wondered why the guy “didn’t just order some hex stock and make the part himself with “a die and a file?” No appreciation at all of learning how a complete part can be machined and finished from raw 1144 stress proof stock on a manual lathe.
Always enjoy a Mr Pete opinion piece (rant). i watch a good variety of content on YT, one thing they all have in common is I am being freely given knowledge . what a fantastic resource ! I have learned so much on such wide variety. I acknowledge the efforts of the creators and hope it will continue. I find Mr Pete especially genuine, honest, interesting, and one of the best communicators on YT. Long may you continue .
Well I never thought of myself as old until I watched this video, haha. Thank you for making all the great videos, I have watched every single one, and my 9 year old son has watched many of yours. There are still young folks who love machining, they are still out there, maybe not as many, but they do exist. I will send you some photos sometime. Thank you again for the great content. I have learned so much from your channel, and you sure remind me of my old shop teacher, I wish I could have brought him out and showed him my shop.
I am 88 years old and still like to learn about things. You are my shop teacher and I have learned a lot.
I find all of your videos educational & entertaining. I am 76 years old but still like to learn. Thanks for the ramblings. Please leave it up. ATB regards from the UK
Glad you like them!
Keep on rockin Mr. Pete. You're a national treasure. They're not making any more of you. Love watching - reminds me 🙂of my Paw Paw.
I'm 66 and retired, lots of things to divide my time but i always find time to watch your videos. Keep em coming.!!
👍👍
Thanks for a great comment. I operated turret.Lathe s for about a year. And it is not pleasant.
👍👍👍👍
Mr. Pete,
I just discovered your videos about a month ago.

That’s awesome, Dwayne!
Thank you so much for a lovely comment and good luck with your lathe work
I watch every video you publish. Thank you.
Thank you very much for a kind comment and encouragement
I guess I’m old, although I hate to admit it, TH-cam is my go to for education. I’ve learned, repaired and most importantly saved money by watching videos. Keep doing what your doing Lyle. You are appreciated.
👍👍
Mr. PETE,
I am one of those not bring notified... I sill will look for your videos as long as you are so kind as to shared them with us.
Please do!
Good morning! I enjoy your videos immensely! I thank you for keeping me entertained, especially in subjects I enjoy. Thanks, Mr Pete!
Thank you for watching and commenting. There seems to be very little interest in the historical videos I make about tools.
Thank you for watching and commenting. There seems to be very little interest in the historical videos I make about tools.
👍👍
👍🇬🇧👍🇺🇸👍
😂😂😂
Here in the eastern USA we will soon feel the sting of all the outsourcing due to the longshoremen's labor dispute. Never will understand why our politicians let this happen.
@@Vintageguy73 It’s completely mad. America’s manufacturing potential is without equal - anywhere. Both our countries lead the world in invention, innovation and manufacturing expertise. I’ve seen so much disappear in my lifetime it’s difficult to comprehend.
Thanks for your comment.
Wait a second now, the UK started the industrial revolution?
@@duanedickey7043 yes!
This is hands down my favorite channel on TH-cam or anything else!
Thank you very much
Thanks, Mr.
Sounds like we are experiencing the same disappointments
Wonderful that you have a shop, and you are wise and retiring to eliminate the stress
I watch your videos to learn. And when you do videos making projects,I find them very interesting. Your channel helped me learn how to run different machines. Thank you.
👍👍
Everyone loves a good Rant
and lets face it there is plenty to rant about.
Hi Mr Pete. You have been an inspiration to me and a great educator for with out folks like you so much would be lost
I loved all your auctions videos as well as your toolbox and shop tours.
God Bless
👍👍👍
I'm a 50-year-old, hobby machinist, and I watch your videos constantly for entertainment and educational purposes. I appreciate everything you do, I Hope you continue to create videos about machining, but understand the market shift. Thank you for all or your work over the years
Thank you, I will continue to make machining video because that’s all I know
I saw one of the big TH-camrs trying to turn a smaller diameter acme thread screw with a carbide tool, then blamed the lathe when they had problems...
Lol
For nearly a decade before I retired you were the go to instructor for all new machinist. We had a computer and monitor in the toolroom and you don't know how many hours young machinist would stare at videos of yours learning an intricate operation. It must bring you a great sense of pride to realize that you slowly replaced the machinist's Bible. You do whatever makes you happy because at this point you certainly deserve it!
Thank you very much for the encouragement
At 50 years old, you have inspired (or infected) me with a fascination for machining. I will be forever grateful for the education that you have given me over the last 10 or more years.
I bought a little 10X24 engine lathe about 5 years ago and I just invested in a rotary phase converter so that I can upsize the lathe and a add a mill to my shop. That all started with you, Keith Fenner and Adam Booth. Thank you sir! Keep up the education, I’m on TH-cam for the free knowledge. I owe my education to wise men, like you who are willing to pass it on.
👍👍👍👍
I find watching your videos, whether educational/instructional or thoughtful elocution, to be a worthwhile and rewarding use of my time. Please continue to enlighten us. Rant on!
You have videos that taught me how to run CNC machines. Manual machining does translate to CNC. It helped me out of jams many times. I thank you. I've been doing CNC machining for 37 years. I found your channel 4 years ago. It made me look at all my machining just a bit differently. Turned out i didn't know it all and you made it better. Thank you again Mr. Pete. Keep going. Keep doing what you do.
Glad to help
Keep watching
Having completed my apprenticeship, I’ve been watching your videos as an aid to my studying, so I can pass my Tool and Die Red seal exam. 🥂
Study hard and keep watching
Lyle, I watch them all…. And enjoy them completely. Cheers! Thank you for sharing your time and many talents. Chuck
I appreciate that!
I will try to give you an answer later today about the grinder
dear mr Pete. Im sure some of us are slowing down But be assured You changed my Hobby Life Some 15 years ago I have purchased many machines and had such a great shop life and Its because of you and your work !!!!
Wonderful
Sad but true
That's Because they have the attention span of a knat, no shop class and no Common sense (Dumbing Down of America) Oh and they Can't Write Either...
Mr. Pete is fueled by coffee.
A 21 minute rant. I watched every minute.
I like the plowing. I like the machine tools and the steam engines.
Thanks Mr. Pete
Thank you very much
When you said you were shocked that everyone's opinions are not the same as yours I almost spit my coffee on the computer! LoL Thanks Mr. Pete!
I watched a couple of machining videos, one by an Australian, another a Scotsman. I asked for English translations. Neither thought that was funny.
There are a few channels from the British Isles that I like, but I cannot watch. Their accent is so thick. I don’t understand a word they say.
Thanks
👍👍
You have taught me so much. If it wasn’t for you I would not know how to run the old South Bend lathe at my work. Or the Atlas lathe I have at home. Thank you for teaching and inspiring me to have an enjoyable hobby. Thank you you’re the best.
Glad to help
My friend is an ex shop teacher, got into computers instead. Well his school is reintroducing welding and fabricating. Warms my heart!
That is awesome!
Keep it up.
Maybe we will meet someday

Thank you so much for your kindness
Old 60yr man here setting up my garage shop for retirement, mini mill, 8x32 chinese lathe with a nice 1.5" bore, but the cherry is an unknown brand made with upside down small gauge rail track as the ways, upgraded bearing replacement for babbit, i use the small machines rebuilding the old one. Thank you for your videos
Sounds like you are having a lot of fun.
Wow, you have done quite a service by repairing and reconditioning those machines
Take care.
Thank you very very much. There are many people that have no interest whatsoever and learning something new.
Hey Pete, as an old guy, I still watch your stuff, so I'm not dead yet! I do watch most of the videos. As a small niche-creator, I also see a drop-off. As a result, I have slowed my posting down to a few a year. I would like to post more, but as they say, "The juice is not worth the squeeze"
Keep up the wonderful stuff; you are still much appreciated...
Thank you for the comment and I think you understand my dilemma
In my mid 50’s now and I’ve purchased an Atlas 12” due to your content. I’m slowly picking up all of its accessories. I’ve learned quite a bit from you and I enjoy restoration projects. Keep making videos please.
👍👍👍
Nuff Said
Thank you very much for watching, sorry to hear about your health.
Your video on repairing a logan lathe quick change gear box really inspired me to repair mine. You give good, practical ways of doing things.
Great to hear!
👍👍
Thanks Mr Pete. I understand what you are saying. Most of what I see and hear in all forms of media annoys me. I have a very low tolerance for stupidity. I love to learn new things. The more useful knowledge you have, the easier it is to navigate life.
As a side note, when I watched Mr Topper's video, I subscribed and set the notifications to all, and I have not gotten a single video notification for that channel. I do seem to be getting all of yours. But then again I have been watching all of your videos all the way through for many years. I hope you have a great week.
Thank you for watching and commenting
Much wisdom in this video Mr Pete 👍👍 I have to confess that I definitely fall into the "Graduated" category. When I first set up my little workshop and got my lathe I watched hundreds of videos from many "workshop" TH-cam creators. Once I had learned the skills I needed for my particular hobby, I watched less and less. These days I hardly watch any "workshop" videos. That being said I still watch your videos, why, well I for one like to hear you talk and I will continue to do so as long as you make them. So please, keep them coming. All the best, Alan.
Thank you, Alan
I rest my case, with your graduation, lol.
Thank you.

Well......I'm 62 and I've been watching your videos since 2016. The information provided is amazing. I particularly love the safety aspect. I think that as long as you have information about machining and tooling and stories about your life experiences, I will watch. Great videos.
That is awesome!
I love all your videos and look forward to them daily !!! It's become an important part of my daily life !
I'm so glad!

Mr. Pete
I like your rant and raves as well as your straight up educational videos, keep 'em coming.

Sweet Alabama
Thank you very much
I have been reading comments on my latest video for the past half hour, and I consider that to be a reward in itself I
I am 56 and have learned a ton from you and your channel. Thank you for everything you have done.
👍👍
You know you are watching a hard core machinist when his pointer is a screwdriver, grin.... I always watch to the end as I don't want to miss a thing, such as the description of "the illustrated man" and "that guy has his left turn signal on all the time." Yes, opinions are like noses, we all have one (cleaned up for You Tube), and our opinions are the same. Keep it up Mr. Pete, including that antique tractor plowing....
Thank you very much, sounds like you have the same interest as I do

I've watched your videos years ago. Always find them educational and informative. As you've mentioned life has been busy and ive completely forgot about your channel. My father passed away recently and I've aquired his machining tools and the first thing that came to mind was you. My dad was a machinist for years and have always loved machining. Him introducing me into machining at a young age was what made me interested. Still enjoy your uploads and I hope you and your family is well.
👍👍👍
Hello
Several other people commented that you are still alive and well and producing videos. I just had not seen any in a long time. I’m glad to hear you are still at it and I understand how difficult it is when you’re working full-time. Thank you for watching and I am very pleased that , my videos helped you
I’ve been putting out lots of videos lately, but it’s like a salmon swimming up stream, lol.
Mr. Pete, I look so forward to your videos when they come out. I have learned so much from them instructionaly and also very much enjoy the other side from antidotes to ramblings. You are a true treasure here and look forward to many more in the future. There is a reason your in my top 5 on youtube.

I plan on making more project videos. But I always need ideas and inspiration. Believe it or not, some of my Projects videos do not attract many viewers.
It was nice seeing the micro machines . i would like to build a small drill press one day . Thanks for the videos .
😄👍 thank you very much
Love your rants! And, thanks for sharing your Channel analytics--very interesting...makes one appreciate that you are putting in all this effort making educational content not for the money, but for the good of humanity. Like the Three Stooges said, "For Duty and Humanity"!
👍👍
Enjoyed watching till the end, Mr. Pete.
👍👍👍
Sir…since I have found your channel I have enjoyed your videos and the information as were as commentary you share. I was blessed to have parents that raised my siblings and myself on a farm and fixing and repairing things was a necessity
Of life. Those lessons have served all of us so incredibly…sadly today’s youth have NOT BEEN CHALLENGED. Please continue to share your knowledge and skills…your efforts are being appreciated. May you and your family be blessed
Thank you. You were fortunate to have great parents.
It sounds like you had a wonderful father. So did I and I lost my dad when I was 22 I think about him almost every day.
You got me into machining just after I started watching your videos about 6 years ago. Love it and have enjoyed making some of your projects. I always get a laugh and always learn something valuable, please don’t ever stop!
That is awesome!
It’s funny how ranting videos are more popular than educational videos.
It goes to show how disappointed people are with the way of life today.
Hopefully the leadership will change for the better.
Too bad Ronald Reagan isn’t around. We need a great leader.
👍👍
The sensitive drill presses are so amazing! Great to learn about them
Glad you like them!
Mr Pete, I love watching your videos and I have learned so much from you. I consider myself as a learner I love to learn. I have learned so much from watching you the years . I will be here until the y are no more videos to watch. Keep 'me coming!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful! Thank you very much for watching and commenting
Thanks. Mr. Pete!
Mr. Pete, you are greatly appreciated. You remind me of my brother in law Keith Gaskins who taught me many things about machining. He passed in 2004 and is greatly missed. If you and your wife ever get down around Atlanta, please come and stay with us. it would be an honour !!
Thank you very much
Agree with you 95% on issues.
Yes, I will. I’ve been kind of putting it off.
Hi Pete, like you said I have to unsubscriibe to channels I enjoy because the notifications and such block up my utube feed and there is not enough time to watch them all. I find engineering channels like yours so much more enjoyable than it was as an apprentice. Great to see you in flying form again.😉👍
Thanks for sharing
Very sad
Always enjoy a Mr Pete opinion piece (rant). i watch a good variety of content on YT, one thing they all have in common is I am being freely given knowledge . what a fantastic resource ! I have learned so much on such wide variety. I acknowledge the efforts of the creators and hope it will continue. I find Mr Pete especially genuine, honest, interesting, and one of the best communicators on YT. Long may you continue .
thank you very much
Drama sells. If you put on some lipstick and wore a dress, but changed nothing else? It would be your highest rated video ever.
Lol
Well I never thought of myself as old until I watched this video, haha. Thank you for making all the great videos, I have watched every single one, and my 9 year old son has watched many of yours. There are still young folks who love machining, they are still out there, maybe not as many, but they do exist. I will send you some photos sometime. Thank you again for the great content. I have learned so much from your channel, and you sure remind me of my old shop teacher, I wish I could have brought him out and showed him my shop.
👍👍
