I am almost 70 years old, and I have owned and been around horses the majority of my life. A good Quarter Horse with cattle sense, to me at least, would be the way to go. You never get out of a horse what you have in them, but boy do I love them.
In the 70's I owned a 14yr old mare, no quarter horse, but she got us out of danger that day..
We were riding on the dirt road from my house which was 1/2 mile from my neighbors. I preferred bareback & my horse Lady was bomb proof.. Suddenly she stopped, wheels around snorting like crazy. I'm thinking a bee or wild animal? No large wild animals here.
She came from Wyoming so she was experienced.. Then like a rocket she took off. I'm scared & looking behind us but never saw anything. Gave her the reins.
We quickly get to the fork in the road by the neighbors & she turned left still running hard..
Waved to them..
About 2.5 miles away my horse slowed down..
Later my neighbor said wow never thought she could move that fast! I agreed. He said she probably smelled the Bobcat that had been eating his chickens..
Ten years later riding my ex-racehorse by that same spot I'd say a little prayer every time.
You are such a great person. So intelligent and
Honest. Naturally you would have great people
That would help you. You
Attract the best because that's who you are.
God bless your family and
Friends.i
Wow! I didn’t know how those things unloaded. And I hadn’t seen a double trailer just single. Learn something all the time.
Unloading the hay bales is about the neatest contraption I have ever seen r/t farming/ranching! Having those free-standing panels has helped you in LOTS of ways! Thanks for sharing with us--I know it makes your work slower to include us! Thank you!
Marisa's flowers are so beautiful and the office is looking great. I can't wait to see what is coming next....oh, and yes to the horses. I grew up on them and think it would be a great thing on project 189.
Yes on horses. Just getting the bison and horses to work together .
Hello Kimberly how are you doing?
Now that's a hay haulin trailer!
Take every bale you can get right now with the fields not producing like they should. The drought and folks not being able to purchase fertilizer has really hurt the pastures for grazing and/or hay production.
Hello Teresa how are you doing
You need bee hives for the flowers. Marisa could sale honey along with the flowers. Two to boxes would be no trouble and would be nice?
Awesome that will put a ease on Daniel's heart 🤗 he was unhappy not to have enuff of his hay to share with you. Thank you good neighbor 🤗💜
Lol how are them chicks at typing and accounting 😂🤣
Hello Linda how are you doing
You'll need a couple of horses so they can keep each other company Could probably leave them in pasture with the bison
Love the lower stress on them with horses. In the animal kingdom, horses trump bison so its a natural movement, but machines are frightening to them. Yes, horses are work, but so are machines, and horses can show appreciation of time and work.
Glad you have a wonderful neighbor to help u out with the hay. Love 32's baby looking at mom having a dirt bath like what are you doing mom. 😍
U r so Innovative Dusty, always willing to try something new. The Herd us looking better and better, and really healthy. I Always like seeing the Little Baby Red Dogs. As soon as the little one adjusts to the heat, he will be fine. Marissa's Flowers r just Beautiful. I am proud if All of u for doing such a great job. Brooks little chic's r really thriving, she loves them. Cannot wait to see the New Addition to o the office. Keep up the great work, and thank u for sharing!
Glad you got some hay. That trailer was cool. No unloading.
Have a blessed week
Brook's will have the boys flocking after her just like her chickens. Beautiful family
I love watching you with the Bison 🦬 and your ranches !! You always dress so professional !! Love the hat and the chickens !! Awesome job on the barn !!
Hello Darlene how are you doing today
I was worried about the hay situation for the bison for this year. Availability due to drought and cost due to economy is a real killer I am sure. Praise good neighbors.
Wow! Glad you got the hay…Daniel has been worried about you and how you would be able to get enough. Thank you, Richard, for helping Dusty and Marissa out with the hay. Cluck, cluck, cluck!🐔🐣🐤🐓. The barn and office looks awesome. Good job!
Looks good the office is coming along. Cracking me up the chickens. The Bison 🦬 looks great. God bless 😊 ❤. I say yes to a horse 🐎.
He doesn't have an office, that's the new hen "house".
Drought causes serious feed issues for cattle ranchers. Seen in Australia, they have something called the Burrumbuttock Hayrunners!(they have some seriously whacky names for places Down Under😛) transport hay to ranchers in drought areas
Glad you got some hay .. hope you get enough to do both places ! Herds look great ! Big Joe is looking so dark and body full . ❤️ Progress is coming along great ! Thank You Dusty and family for sharing this journey .. Love the Bison ! Red dogs look healthy .. can’t wait to see what the campers for !! Glamping with the Bison ...
Marissa's flowers are gorgeous. 🌻🥀Dusty....
seems you had a great time on horseback with the cattle.🐎🐄🦬🐂🐎
Your bison are already accustomed to your machines, so I don't think the machines are causing stress. It's probably more about seeing people they don't see everyday and being pushed into small areas. Also on working days, people are putting out more nervous/stressed energy because we are wanting things to go smoothly. Animals pick up on that. Having said all that, horses are great animals and can be an asset to any farm/ranch. It would be beautiful to see bison and horses running through the fields together!
Love the chickens! I especially liked the one perched on the ladder.
Hay is going to be a big issue this year. I just don't know how all the small farms are going to make ends meet this year. Glad you are starting to sorce hay now. Yes you don't need the grasshoppers eating all the grass. The flower garden is beautiful. You might consider a trickle water system for it.
Lots of projects, lots of progress. Dusty! Gave me a giggle to see all the chickens in the office and how they kept coming! Hope your little red dog does OK in the heat. Saw the coyote on the camera, guess he needed a drink!
Hello Renee how are you doing
You’re amazing Dusty, do you ever slow down?! Oh, I hope that trailer we saw in the last seconds means you’re getting away to relax with the family and not a place for you to sleep at the Ponderosa while you’re working!! 🤣
I’m so glad you were able to get some hay! I was worried about those big and little babies❤️🙏🏻 Good neighbors are worth their weight in gold. I bet you both are good neighbors too!
It looks like you have a “supervisor and crew “in the office. They’re making sure you don’t forget the chicken door.
I am glad you got some hay.I was worried since no rain and Daniel's fields did not produce enough hay even for him.
I think Daniel is good... he didn't even hit the other property, and they sold the Herefords. But usually he has extra he sells to Dusty... and that will be little to none this year
Those stand-alone fences are a great tool on the farm!!
With the cost of gas, which is more economical.. horses or trucks.
Do you have drip irrigation for the flowers? With the heat you have that may be a great option but unsure of the cost to install. Uses less water than sprinkling system and less waste.
To be able to stock up on hay now is great. Many farmers/ranchers will be scrambling to get hay later on if you don’t get more rain.
All Depends, owning Horses is cheap.
They are so beautiful and majestic. I love to watch how you take care of them and the love and concern you have for them. Even though they know you, you are still cautious around them and give them the respect they deserve to keep yourself and them safe. Keep trying with Hoss and someday he will come and take a biscuit from your hand. (P.S. If you haven't heard there was another incident in Yellowstone a family went to close to an adult bison.) I wish people, with stupid ideas, would stop going to that park. A guy had to be taken to the hospital.
Potentially you have 25,200 LB. of Yearling Bison staring at you when you opened the bag of cubes. They are magnificent animals and I thank you for sharing your videos so that everyone has the opportunity to experience the animals.
Great video Dusty! Your office is really shaping up. Looking good! Chickens and all. Ha' Wonderful that you got that hay now! Praise your neighbors!! Merissa's flowers are looking pretty!!☺
ty Dusty and Fam. for sharing all of the tremendous growth going on with your Bison herds! It is so spectacular to watch the hard work and dedication you all have raising these beautiful creatures. (Marissa's flowers look stunning!)
Everything is coming along as planned on the ranch and the new camper added. As for using the Horses, I think it's a good idea, the native American Indians and Cowboys been using them for years on Buffalo and Cattle. So give it a try. So just stay safe. Watch the coyotes, see one there's 3 more around. Thanks for the great video and you and your Family have a Great 4th of July.
I love how much your bison!!! You treat them as your family.
Your office is kind of like your bison herds, you’re growing the herd, and you’ll be growing into that amazing office space!
The filming and editing of this video was really good 👍! You were having a full on hen party; that was so funny!
The bison are amazing; they look so healthy! Those little red dogs are adorable 🥰!
Maybe a horse down the road; it just seems like a lot of work! I owned a horse, I loved that horse to the moon and back. We adopted him when he was getting older, and couldn’t really work. Like I said, loved the horse, and we were heartbroken when we had to put him down. The only thing is the amount of time that you put into them. Like grooming, taking care of all their gear-that was a lot.
Hello Lola how are you doing
Dusty I am glad you guys were able to get hay I pray that if you need more hay that god will provide for your animals may god bless you and your familythank you for allowing me too watching your videos thank you
All the bison are looking so good! Love seeing those beautiful red dogs! The flowers are gorgeous too! God bless y’all! ❤️🦬
New here. I'm fascinated at those huge bison. They were so gentle with you especially when the big boy came up for a head scratch! I've never seen them let alone up so close. They really are gorgeous animals. 😍 oh and wow that was a huge blessing to get so much hay rolls!
Keep
You've come so far from the first time I watch your channel . I'm so happy for you guys . Keep up the great great work . ENJOY SO MUCH.
Thank you so much!!
Just an fyi, we always have hay listed on our local Craigslist/farm and garden. I’m in ky but you may have some listed close by. Brooks might enjoy a little pony down the road. Loving Marrissas flowers 🌺 love seeing the honey bees . Your hens should start laying around 6 months.
Glad you got some hay. Loved you talking to the chickens. All the Bison are looking good. Can't wait to see what the camper is for and see the project 189 as it progresses. Take care and stay safe out there. GOD BLESS Y'ALL.
Hi from Syracuse NY everyone thank you for sharing your adventures and your farm
Neighbours helping neighbours is such a blessing
They are indeed they are a blessing. I do love horses.
Love your ranch and how well your care for your bison 🦬🦬🦬🦬
The 🌺🌹 are so beautiful .
You can see the love that you put into everything you do. 💜💕❤️
That is an awesome way to unload hay. Whomever invented that is a genius! Glad you got what you need. I love watching your bison, they are amazing. God bless you and all the work you do for those wonderful animals.
I like the flowers. If y'all don't use poison on your fields you might offer up a corner for some one to drop a couple of bee hives on next year. If you have the space there around the barn you could plant a pumpkin or two for Brooks.
I knew I was calling you a cowboy for a reason, fantastic video, love horses teach you little one, start her young! 😂
Good morning Dusty! 🤣🤣 love the inspection team! 🐓🐔🐤They will tell Brooke what a great job you are doing. Thanks for showing us so much today. Loving the 🦬 🦬 🦬 🦬 herd. Hugs from N.C..❤️
Such a beautiful sight watching the bison. Chicken checking your work. Hope ya'll have a wonderful day. Love you guys.
Dusty, I stumbled on your channel through Daniels, I'm so happy to have met you. You have so much going on and most importantly I love those majestic animals. I find it amazing you can get so close to them. Obviously, they are used to you, your smell, the sound of your vehicle, or even Mia. Interesting. (from Canada)
So proud of you Dusty! I love CTB 🦬 and look forward to every new video!
I admit- I loved the sound of the leather under your seat as you were watching, and helping move the cattle! 🏇🏼 I can’t help but believe your bison would get used to a horse (or two) being around and flow with it in time! ➡️ Something to seriously think about… some of us bison 🦬 lovers- also are horse 🐎 lovers…. Just sayin..😉🤟🦬✝️
Thank you so much!! Like you're thinking
Glady you all were able to get hay for the Bison. Love want you are doing on the Ponderosa. The flower are really looking great.
Yes on a horse. I was 17yrs my last ride on a big Belgian horse he weighed about 2000lds no saddle or reins Mike was name May his wife and their baby mare. We hauled them from Washington State to Missouri on a Mennonite farm. We also helped them build a hog barn. It was 1979 long time ago I've only ridden horses a few times too.~have a great day 👍🤗❤
Between you and the Arms family, I have a blast. Thank you
You are so right about having good neighbor's
You should totally get 3 or 4. You, your wife and eventually your daughter and maybe even Kevin could help wrangle bison from horseback. I have 3 horses myself. Mine are pretty low maintenance horses. I highly recommend it.
Dusty you make being around the herd look so simple and safe, I know it's not. Is there one specific bison that you are more cautious around don't trust as much or is more aggressive then the others. Not counting after birth or in heat when hormones run crazy. The office is a work in progress, the hay is a relief but those flowers look so beautiful. At one point I had 11 horses, mine were great around all animals, a friend used a couple to herd bison, was much safer he said than being in a vehicle low stress, a good horse not that much work compared to accessibility, safety it is an exchange. Horses don't break down like motors do. Horses can maneuver different terrain plus get you where you need to go.
Hello Ora May how are you doing today?
Nice neighbors are great. I got the camp fire mugs which are really nice and the snack stick included was very yummy! Looking forward to ordering the jerky too!
Figure out what would be cheaper...buying gas for the vehicles and the maintenance costs, or feeding horses and the vet costs. Each might encounter unexpected costs that were not figured into your decision so just do your best and do what you think is best.
Hi Dusty Another great video The bison respect for you is great. And your love for them is outstanding. Always learning and adorning the bison. God bless and Love Ya'll 👍👍💖💖
The old way is fun but it definitely reminds you of how out of shape and your age real quick lol. A good horse makes all the things easier, wouldn’t mind seeing one on the channel in the future.
Hi Dusty. You could always test ride a horse at the Ponderosa. Everything looks great! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us 😊
Yeah for the hay, and thankful to great neighbor's 👍ponderosa looking good. Funny with the chickens- come on in its a 🥳 🤣. I think they were inspecting room, I heard tools tinkering
Dusty so glad you got hay that is awesome news.. I have watched you with the Big Joe and Dunbar herd and in my opinion when you have baby Brooke with you it almost like those two Big guys are actually staying close to the side by side as if they are protecting her as if she was their baby and part if the herd pushing all the other calves away not allowing them anywhere near her.. ik ur gonna say it's for the cubes but they were around when Marissa was pregnant and could sense that and then when she was born being in the baby carrier and now she has no fear.. she tells them no get back.. those to bulls would protect her with everything if they had to.. and I believe you as well if you were to get hurt out in the pasture while working they would do what they had to to get someone's attention while keeping you safe.. I do believe that and people are gonna say ur crazy but they aren't gonna bite the hand that feeds them.. and you see it their eyes..
Hello Dusty 👋 now thats the way to do hay! Love the flowers so pretty! Beautiful animals . Take see you next time! Busy busy! Horses
Nice! Later🤗🌻🌹❤💚✌
I love how all the bison slowly close of vision of the babies. So loving they are all involved. You really take care of them, thank you! 😊
Hello Linda how are you doing
My experience with horses was when I was a youngster into my teens. Lovem'! You might try using your buddies horses as a trial with the bison before investing in your own.
i agree on using horses. they can be one of the best "tools" on any ranch.
Beautiful horses 😊
I agree! Hope Dusty tries it! 🐎🏇🏼
Great episode Dusty. Addicted to ur channel and think it’s super awesome how all the farm work is mostly done by the family. Can’t wait till August to get some meat from u when it comes available to us. Still shocked that the bison aren’t over heated in the summer.
Borrow a horse to try it out. Don’t go buy one n it not work out.
Good thing you are getting your hay early cause prices are on the rise. The office is coming together, the chickens thought you might need help with bug control. They know what that bag means. The Red Dogs are looking good. That looks so fun I have not road a horse cence I was a teenager I miss it.
I was watching the bison standing like statues, starting at you then take a couple of steps, stop and start starting again. It immediately reminded me of "Children of the Corn". 😂🤣😆😆😜
Dusty, great video! Thank you for sharing. Happy Fourth of July to you and your family!🎉🇱🇷
Hello Nancy how are you doing
So glad to hear you talk about horses. I have always thought it was a great idea. You could buy two older seasoned cow ponies since it would be light work for them. And Brooke needs a pony🐎. 😂😂😂😂 Just saying from a girl that had a pony. 🙏
Brooks is her name.
Glad you got some hay for the Bison this winter
Everything looks great!!
Love watching your videos Dusty … always something new
Hello Carver how are you doing
Thanks!
Love horses. I was raised round horses. Every little girl should have a horse. They are expensive but if you get a good one they are a big asset.
So glad you got good quality hay that's like gold .
The idea of a horse $$ and time. Do you want another daily have to do chore?
When you showed the trailer I thought Oh Crap Marissa has kicked him out and he's living in the barn 😅just kidding 😂.
As always the Bison look AMAZING!
It’s good to see how far you’ve come with the heard. I remember when you could count on hand how many you had. I love horses but never owned one. So o day “yes” get a horse! Lol 😂✌️🌻
The flower garden is beautiful. A nice camper will give you a place to stay without having to drive back-and-forth so much and the bison herds are getting bigger and bigger the Ponderosa ranch is beautiful
Daniel said on last viedo he only got 1/2 of his usual bales from the 30 bale field and the other property needs to wait awhile to bale it hope it gets better soon I miss having and bringing in firewood each year your right so much quicker with that wagon 😋
Hoss is a looker. Big Joe is majestic and I love him. But Dunbar is special. He has a certain calmness the others don't have, yet. I have been with you from the start, I think. And I have a special spot for Dunbar and Elinore. Are there any low-ranking animals on The Ponderosa? I know the two herds there are very new to each other. Just wondering.
Don't rule out horses!!! Your daughter would enjoy a pony!!! Always been around horses and cattle all my life. My Dad was raised on cattle ranch - started riding horses at 3yrs old. Broke horses and mules for US durning WWII. Family had first cattle brands and water rights in state of Colorado. Horses and heelers best ranch hands ever!!!
Brings back memories. I can close my eyes and actually smell the aroma of all that hay. Wonderful smell.
Suggestion to cover hay with quality tarp some critters and birds will compromise the wrap on bales allowing rain water in spoil atlest the outer layers of round bale at current economic conditions any loss is too much when can be prevented tarps are reusable so not a waste of $$
What a great show today, it’s great ❤️❤️❤️
Wow, so happy for you that you will have that hay for the bison. The chickens want to help with all the bookwork you will be doing in the office (they are great at math) and they just want to help you out in the finishing work. YES, YES, YES horses. Pony for Brooks
I’m so glad you got all that hay. God provided for you and the bison.
I 🙏🦬 that you'll be able to get the rest of the hay you need, for both places!!!
Those are some nice looking bails of hay, can't beat good quality hay ect for hoof stock. Just cut our 3 big fields and bailed em for my cousins cows, wish he had bison would be a lot cooler to work with lol. That is one huge cowboy hat def gettin some shade under that one! How many bails does your bison herd typically go through in a year or season where you need em?
Dusty mentioned that he went through 100 +/- bales for the bison. I believe that was for both herds.
I think it would be awesome to start off with horses with the little red dogs when you're weaning them
Lol....guide those chickens out to the grasshoppers!! Those chickens have grown alot! Love you can touch Big Joe!! To bad the mom and baby wouldn't go to one of the water ways under the trees. Glad you got to try horse riding again. Thanks for sharing!
Horse is a great idea but requires a lot of work. Flowers are beautiful. Good video.
Lol. The chickens said they no its an office they were on a corn break, then back to work.
Now that's a way to unload hay
Good video
Mike Galloway (Our Wyoming Life) up in Wyoming is finally able to bale hay after a 3 year drought
Cool bail drop off👍😁I know Daniel said he would be short on hay this year😊glad you got some hay. Never say no…lol..great👍😁❤️flowers are beautiful 🌹
Like the western shirts with your logo...awesome.You worked so hard with the bisons and it show..beautiful herds...what was that a coyote on trail cam..would they bother the red dogs...also the bisons are use to the ATV. Horse are good for cattle and other horse, but I believe bisons and horse are a dangerous together...
They've calmed down so much
Dusty the office workers have arrived. Consider yourself lucky, they dont need $$$$ but just some grain and water.
I grew up working cattle on horseback. Loved it.
