Thank you, this was really informative. the last bit got me thinking about something though.. Is it possible to use the concept of the "subject" in that sense, i.e. as being subject to power, to refer to a non-human entity?
Hi. I’m planning to get started on Foucault properly. Is there an order to his books? Which one should I read first? This is an awesome video! I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. Such a gem. :)
Thank you for the videos. Where can I find the reading for this? I see multiple titles that are similar but do not match "The Subject and Power" The books are expensive and I don't want to purchase the wrong one. Also, What Foucault book covers his ideas most generally so I can see the big picture before diving into the details? You're expert direction would me very helpful and greatly appreciated.
Great lecture! I've been interested in a lot of 20th century thinkers that based their ideas a lot on analysis of history and anthropology; "historian of ideas" if I'm not mistaken? like Foucault, Hadot (which deeply influences Foucault, if I'm not mistaken), and recently probably Arendt. Do you have other recommendations along those line of thinker?
I wouldn't buy the idea that Hadot deeply influences Foucault. People doing history of ideas in the 20th century? There's quite literally hundreds that come to mind
@@GregoryBSadler it's not relevant but it's also the subject of the prison song itself, just reminded me of that hahah nonetheless, love the work on your channel, and this video specifically, thank you so much professor!
@@GregoryBSadler to be more specific, the song talks about the correlation of drug markets, the military industrial complex and sex work marginalization all correlating to US global hegemony, so it's rather tangential than actually relevant. sorry if i sounded trollish, it was not the case at all

Glad they've been helpful

Glad you enjoy it

Well, HHH will be out there as long as TH-cam continues to exist, so no rush
Perfect timing, I've been looking into Foucault and Derrida lately
Well, you’re in luck on one of them
@@GregoryBSadler like to study some Foucault. Perfect for the corporate administrative world we live in.
Notification gang!! ✌️
last part where you talk about subjection reminds me of althusser's appellation
I suppose anything can remind one of anything. Best to just stick with understanding Foucault on his own grounds, I'd say
This is great!!! Thank you

In that sense, not unless the entity has the characteristics that human subjects do. So, depends on the entity, doesn't it?
Thanks for your efforts sir

There's no particular order in which you have to read Foucault's works. Glad you find the video useful

Hi James, do you have the name of the essay for me? :)
Hello, I am from India. I wanted to know if this video would help analyse the Caste system's power politics and resistance by Dalit Politics.
You can answer that, yes or no, by watching it
