    I'd love to see more fishing type videos from this channel.
    Other rigs (maybe catfish) and of course the actual fishing/catches as well as clean and cook.
    I haven't fished in 6 or 7 years.
    Gave almost all of my gear away after the kids in my family grew up.
    I miss fishing.
    I'm going to dip my toe back in the water. lol

    Bizarrely this video popped up in my recommendations the day I brought home a very similar rig. I went a little more on the rod with the St. Croix Premier 7’ medium power. I also went a bit lighter on the reel with the Daiwa Fuego 3000. I gotta tell you though that 20 lb. line is double the recommended strength for a medium light rod. I would keep the drag set fairly light on the reel to be safe. But in all honesty unless you hook into a real lunker in some heavy weeds I doubt you’re in any danger of breaking the rod.

    Another great option for bass fishing is the fly rod. It takes quite a bit of learning, but a lot of bass have never seen fly patterns before and will absolutely hammer them. On lighter bass tackle, especially, (~6wt with 4X or 3X tippet), fighting a hog is a whole other experience- like off-roading with a stick shift vs. sticking to roads with an automatic transmission, vis a vis conventional tackle. They also excel in shallower water, making them great for bank fisherman in waters pressured by conventional tackle. :)

    St Croix makes great rods. I run 10-15lb braid then attach 8-10lb fluorocarbon line on my spinning reels. You can never go wrong with Shimano or Diawa spinning reels in the $100-$150 price point.

    Nice to have a "local" Bass Pro Shop. The closets one to San Diego is 90 miles north. I guess we just don't do enough fishing in San Diego, we only have 60 miles of beach....

  • @littlejackalo5326
    @littlejackalo5326 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    FYI: Mono is far more abrasion resistant than braided. Plenty of tests have been done, and momo and fluorocarbon are way more abrasion resistant when fishing around structures and debris... I mean, there's no comparison.

    One lure I had actually never tried but had awesome repeated success, is a 1.5" - 2" latex/rubber seed pattern frog. It was hollow and rode top water. I used them pond fishing several times and especially in grassy and lily pad areas. Great luck. That big large mouth dove up and gulped the joker down and seemed like it was in slow motion ! There was a big ole beaver that swam around and hated it and would slap the water there lol ! I believe ill get out early one day this weekend and head down to the creek. Appreciate the videos Eric. 🐍🇺🇸

      Go to Wal-Mart, buy an Ugly Stik combo, a few of the baits he mentioned, head to your local lake and pretend to fish. Your primary goal this first day is to talk to the other people fishing. Tell them you're a first timer, and most will be more than happy to offer advice and tips. A few questions to definitely ask; what type and color of lure to throw, retrieval speed, best times of day, etc. You'll learn more that first day than you would in an entire season of trial and error. Unless you're fishing in the exact lake/s Eric is fishing on, you're likely to need different lures, colors, or both. That natural colored shad rap Eric showed will catch fish where I'm at, but you'll have a much better day with a firetiger rap, and an even better day with a firetiger swim bait. The reason for that is we have turbid water, a bass has a more difficult time seeing a natural color bait, so we throw colors that really pop out against the water that looks like chocolate milk. There's a lot to learn but don't let that intimidate you, once you learn a little bit about bass behavior you'll find that you can look at a body of water, and you'll swear you can almost "see" them. Good luck, and most importantly, have fun.

    One plus for buying Shimano at least in the past is that they don't advertise that you can always return any Shimano real and upgrade to a more expensive one at any time and they'll give you the current MSRP or equivalent as credit towards your new Shimano reel. I have done this at least three times in the past.

    Theres a lot of difference in the gear you select depending on if you are fishing from the bank or on a boat. From the bank just fishing streams and ponds the spinning reel is fine. But once you start fishing on lakes from a boat 95% of my fishing is with baitcasters. The only time i use a spinning rod is when throwing super light/finesse baits.
    Every bass fisherman needs these baits reguardless of how/where you fish: jigs, topwater, spinnerbait, shallow/medium crankbait, and a texas rigged soft plastic of some sort (“6 worm or lizard). For soft plastics and jigs the colors that consistantly produce the most reguardless of body of water are green pumpkin, watermelon seed, and black/blues. If i had to pick just one color it would be green pumpkin.
