Oh, yet another fabulous idea ❤ Especially since stencils are quite expensive over here and there should be plenty of items around the house I can use for that. Maybe a basket for a more grungy look...
I never thought of using play doh on the gelli plate. I do something similar, but with the moldable foam that you heat, press into your texture and then use it on your plate. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Debbie! Oh yes, the stamping foam from Simon Hurley! I don’t have one, but I want to get one so I can do a comparison video! What is the coolest thing you have used your stamping foam on?
@Thereses-Crafty-Cabana I have my great grandmother's wooden jewelry box. My great grandfather made it her. It is hand carved and very ornate with a lot of fine details. It made a beautiful pattern on the gelli plate. I made a print with it and used the print as a mat for my great grandparents' wedding picture I have. The picture dates back to 1892.
That is so cool that you could use the stamping foam on your great grandmother’s hand carved jewelry box! I would definitely say the stamping foam was the best way to make that print so you don’t risk ruining the jewelry box. Thanks for sharing this with me! I love that you were able to use the print with a photo from back then too! That is definitely a treasure. 💖
This looks fun! Good to know the dollar store alternative works great too. From my home I might try using… the collander, the back of a fork to make hash marks, my dogs spikey ball, a cup to make repeat circles, maybe a kitchen scrubber for small texture, cheese grater, and bottle caps. Lots of options! ❤
Thank you for sharing your color thought process! I never would've thought to use play doh to transfer different textures. My ceiling has texture...there are lots of sweeping lines up there. I might try that sometime 🤔
You are so welcome! Thanks for your great questions! Oh the ceiling sounds cool if you can reach it! I saw one person use wax or tissue paper over painted surfaces so as not to ruin it with the play-doh. 💗
Me too! I had to really hunt to find the Play-doh at my stores. It is definitely fun! I like playing with clay because it’s relaxing, so this was a nice detour from the norm!
Hello and welcome! That is a great idea! I have seen those in the polymer clay section at Hobby Lobby, I bet those would make really cool textures! Thank you! 😊
@@Thereses-Crafty-Cabana I think using them directly on the plate would be interesting too...if you do get some, I would love to see a tutorial with them 🙂💚
That’s really cool. You got me to thinking about trying clay that air dries after you get the texture from those plates, then would have them for future gel plate endeavors….??? What do you think?
That would be a great one to test out! I think I saw some of the air dry clay from Dollar Tree too. If I pick some up, I will definitely compare it to the play-doh!
Hi Linda! The drying time in between pulls (waiting for a layer to dry before adding another layer) is about 5 minutes. The drying time for the print to dry to the paper before pulling up the print is about 5-10 minutes. Some will wait up to 24 hours. That part is your preference depending on what kind of print you want to achieve. Typically, the longer it sets/dries, the more clean your pull will be.

YES,...a basket!!!!! Great idea! TFS! Austin TX USA
I totally have some baskets with textures that would look cool! Great idea! 👏💕

I absolutely love these ideas! I want to try them all! Except I don’t have the dog toy! You’re giving me some great ideas! 💗
WOW!!! You have so many techniques i need to try!!! This worked great for prints!!! Great job! TFS! Austin TX USA
Thanks Barbara! ☺️ I was really impressed by how well it removed the paint! 🎨
This would be fun with kids as well. Nicely done thank you.
Hi Colleen! I agree, this would be fun with kids helping to roll out the dough and press it into the texture! 💕
Very fun prints Therese! 😄🙌
Thank you, Yolande!!!
Great ideas from you with the textures you have used, I’m thinking some cut glass vases might yield some interesting designs!
Thank you Peg! Oh yes, that would be fun to pick out different vases with interesting patterns! 💖

Excellent idea, therese
Thanks, Ellen!
I’ve watched a couple of videos doing this. Haven’t tried it yet, but I’m sure I will.😊

Great prints! ❤ I've got the play doh; I need to look for textures now.
Do you have some cool baskets or vases? Can’t wait to see what textures you discover!
@Thereses-Crafty-Cabana just regular baskets. I might have to take play doh on my walk. 😉
Oh good idea! I feel like I need to start making a list, lol. 😂
I think using the patterned rolling pins would be interesting to use on the play dough for texture 😊
Great technique and I just subscribed 😊

Ok cool! If I get my hands on some, I’ll definitely make a video with them!
Beautiful designs and techniques ❤❤❤! Thank you for sharing! Have you applied on rice paper and then decoupage on a item such as wood or glass?
I have used rice paper before, but not too much. I think that would look really beautiful on a vase! Thanks for the idea!!! 🤗💕

What is the drying time? I don’t know that anyone has really said. Love your videos.
