My dad, God rest his soul, took to the air in one of these many times in Korea. I knew he was in the Air Force and fought in the Korean War, but it's only in the last several years that I found out what a badass, hot rod of an aircraft he served in. Those P & W R2800s sound beautiful to me. My dad said they were "louder than sh*t" and had 32 spark plugs... Thanks for the work you do.
Oh, yeah. that loud. I rode in a B-25, similar configuration, and it was painfully loud - like someone beating on an empty oil drum with big hammers....and I was in the oil drum. Good thing we were provided with ear/headphones to reduce the noise. I'm sure riding in them in combat caused loss of hearing to some men.
Um.. that's only 26 years. The F-4, F-15, F-16 and F-18 have all served for well over 30 years, some F-4s are still Flying... 50+ years. C-130 Has been flying since 1956. The B-52 another... So you can say "most amazing" about a lot of airplanes.
Served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam with both the French and U.S. forces, and with the free Cuban forces that were trying to invade the island after Castro took over. A real work horse.
What became of the A-26 dubbed " Hager The Horrible " The name came from the popular comic strips or ( funny papers ) in the sat-sun edition. The last time i saw her was at an air- show out West many years ago. I never saw her take to the air however, she was one slick looking air craft. Cheers
When I played Air Warrior II on the PC, my two favorite aircraft were the P-38 and the A-26. Enemy fighters would see a bomber icon and come in for an "easy" kill. They were always surprised at how agile the aircraft was. And when you got those 8 .50's pointed at them they disappeared fast! The ammunition load was enormous and once you established control over an enemy base, you could loiter forever taking out all that dared try to take off. I could also have a gunner (another player) manning the rear turrets and add that extra surprise sting. Range, firepower, speed, agility, decent bomb load... the aircraft could do it all. Seeing and hearing the actual aircraft fly is a real treat.
It was redesignated as the B-26, in 1948, after the USAF abolished the "A" for Attack MDS, and after the Martin B-26 Marauder was withdrawn from service when WW-2 ended.
I was at that Wings of Eagles air show and remember that airplane quite distinctly. It's been almost 20 years! The announcer is the incomparable Bill Lowe, formerly of WHAM 1180 in Rochester, NY. He and his wife moonlit as air show hosts for many years. Give your dad my regards!
This particular A-26 only has the wing guns fitted. Plus, it has a glass nose, which means that the pilot had 2, or 3 nose guns mounted to the side, and below the nose. Solid Nosed Invaders had either a six, or eight gun nose, and, if the aircraft was an early production airframe, it had two gun gun pods mounted beneath the wings, or, if it's a later production example, like this one, the gun pods were replaced by internally mounted guns; three in each wing. Also, this one never had its turrets reinstalled during its restoration.
@@jonathanstapp3234 Actually, the solid nosed A-26B's, either had 6, or 8 forward firing 50 Cals., not 14. There is no space in the nose to support that large number of 50 Caliber guns, at all.

The Indonesian Air Force were flying these beauties in the 70s, visiting Changi Airbase (Royal Air Force) Singapore frequently.
Awesome video, now I understand why my dad liked the aircraft in WW2, Korea and Vietnam!
the A 26 is one of the most amazing planes out there. Serving from 1943 -69 we really got our moneys worth

I don't know why it was in my recommendation, but this is sick
Wow that's a great looking Invader. Glad to see her flying..
Thank you very much for sharing! Greets from the Netherlands, T.
Our pleasure!
Seeing a couple guys in Commercial Pilot outfits flying a 'retired' Night Fighter / Attack Bomber is something else.... lol
Nice flying...
Thanks for the visit

Nice to know you liked it when playing your game.
it's the speed of a f7f with the fire power and bomb load of a b25
The A-26 can carry 4,000 pounds, as much as a B-17, the B-25 can carry 3,000 pounds, more than a B-25 but as fast as a Tigercat.
The Japanese Air Self Defense Force never flew A-26's after they were withdrawn from USAF service.
A26 in the 1989 movie "Always"
The A26 is a really good plane in war thunder
Yes you're not the first to say it's a good aircraft to play war with, the other child said it was his favourite in the game.
Turrets are gone. Nice landing
I built a model of this aircraft when I was a kid. It’s was called a B-26 Invader. Why the name change? Anyone? Thanks in advance.

My dad flew at the warplane heritage he flew the beech 18
Panel is a jole.
No Invaders ever served with the Japanese Air Self Defense Force, at all. Also, nice video.
Didn't these sink destroyers ?
Not that I know of.
Might have been the predecessor of it, the Douglas A-20. They were used in some maritime warfare on several fronts.
thats my dad
That's great!
yea that a-26 is undergoing a major overhaul hopefully I will see it in my life time

saw these in Vietnam, the US Airforce used them
Where's her 14x 12.7mm? 😀

This is an A26 C model... the B model with the solid nose had 14 forward facing guns
