Evidently you have never dealt with a demon. I was accosted by a demon. The Holy Spirit prayed through me in another language All Night Long before that demon left. The devil doesn't give up that easy. Sometimes a person has many demons in them. They all will fight for the right to stay where they are and torment that person. It may take months of working with someone to eliminate all the evil in and around them. Jesus told his disciples, when some of them tried to cast out demons and they wouldn't obey, that some only come out after fasting and prayer. You have to be in the right frame of mind, heart and soul, in order to do an exorcist.
Be careful with your attitude. Christians can't be Possessed with a demon, but they can be Oppressed by a demon. Don't try to eliminate a demon on your own if that would come up. They know who is spiritually ready to deal with them and who isn't. They could attack you.
If you are willing, go to the Pints With Aquinas TH-cam channel and watch a full interview with a priest exorcist; or watch the Michael Knowles show interview with a woman who was delivered out of years as a psychic medium. Both of them have chilling events to tell. This could help in your understanding of the occult evil in the world.

    great video Father Casey
I would also like to address a few of the objections that I usually see about the subject and that some people have made in this comment section.
    1- "Why aren’t exorcisms filmed"
you can find exorcisms filmed, but you need the person's consent, and even when it's filmed it's not like most cases of demonic possession give people superpowers or anything that would raise an eye brown.
2-"Why aren’t they studied by secular scientists?"
they have been studied by secular scientists, but as the video said, it's a rare (but although important) usually monotonous process.
3-"Everything I’ve read on exorcisms is just a lot of anecdotal evidence that I don’t find convincing at all."
We aren't saying they are like a flue, there is a reason most exorcisms don't go forward in the catholic process, it usually isn't considered possession, but has a natural cause.
4- If it's not true wouldn't it be medically harmful
Honestly, the catholic exorcism process probably leads to finding more mental health diagnoses than we finding cases we consider demonic possession.
Many religious people who are reluctant to call a psychologist/psychiatrist go to one because their priest requires them to do so (because if they don't the exorcism isn't allowed).
And let's suppose it's just an ultra-rare disease that has no cure, can't be diagnosed, and persists even after a year, in that case at least the exorcism will be a placebo which is useful to the person and it's better than nothing.
5- "why would psychologists examine these cases, I bet most psychologists don’t believe in the possibility of demonic possession. It just seems like it’s disingenuous."
There is nothing inherent about psychologists or psychiatrist that make them incapable of being in demonic possession, smart people can believe in the supernatural, however, it's of fundamental importance for psychologists or psychiatrist to treat any mental illness according to its protocol, and not resort to saying mental illnesses or caused by demonic possession.
Plus, mental illness is carefully studied and defined, they can be a secular mental health professional, but if they are intellectually honest, they will say that a specific case doesn't fit in any established diagnosis in the DMS-5 or anything similar reported in the scientific literature, these things happen, even most doctors have reported experiencing thing they can't explain conventionally.
look, I am not saying exorcisms can't be harmful, but at least the catholic ones usually aren't because of the large number of precautions church the process takes.

There is a difference between Exorcism and Deliverance. Exorcism, involving an exorcist, is done in cases of persons who are mostly or even completely under the control of one or more demon spirits. Deliverance sessions are done for people who are being harassed by a demon spirit, or who have an addiction or compulsion that is not just the result of an emotional or psychiatric problem but is the result of direct influence of a demon. MANY people can benefit from prayer for deliverance, while only a few people are truly possessed and require the ministry of an exorcist.

Another great talk Father Casey... can you please talk about the Rosary? Specifically in a way that will help Protestants understand why it's not "vain repetition" and why it's not worship of Mary... I'm a protestant who has discovered the Rosary and while I have found praying it has dramatically improved my spiritual life I still feel conflicted because of the various protestant arguments that linger in my head...

    • @blinkin_park182
      @blinkin_park182 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Well, repetition is one thing, and vain is another. Is it wrong to repeat prayer? Are you supposed to pray something slightly different each time, to avoid repetition? Nope! And the rosary is not in vain. Quite the opposite, assuming you are not just treating it like some kind of magical formula. We can never call out to our sweet, beloved Holy Mother and meditate upon each mystery too many times. And the honor and reverence we give to Mary is different than the true worship, latria, that we give to the Blessed Trinity. Also, please, Mary wants you to be fully in communion with her Sons church!

@Maxim Newdel Thanks Maxim! I've been a protestant for 40 years so it's not a quick process... in a nutshell I married a Catholic and our kids have been going to a catholic school for years and slowly I've been realizing that there are many things that some Protestants believe about Catholics that just aren't true... in some cases I'm getting a sense that the Christian life is definitely incomplete outside of Catholicism and I know people who would have a spiritual heart attack if they heard me say that :p

@@kerinskuriosities Your heart seems to be tender towards Catholicism and I think that’s amazing. I know it might not be the quickest process, but I think that if you prayerfully decide to join an RCIA, perhaps at your nearby parish, you could be confirmed and fully received by next year. It depends. I recommend talking to a priest about any of your qualms with Catholicism, going to mass with your wife and kids if you haven’t (without receiving Communion), and maybe even praying the rosary as a family too.

I actually don't belong to a church of any denomination at the moment, so it's literally impossible for me to love my church while not attending one. Secondly there is nothing in my comment that spreads hate. There's nothing hateful about just trying to understand where my brothers are coming from when they choose to pray a little differently to me, but I can assure you when I am praying or reading scripture, however I do it procedurally speaking, I'm doing it in Spirit and in Truth. Also you misquoted me, I said that, "I'm getting a sense that... is incomplete..." I wasn't necessarily making an absolute statement, I'm talking about a deep feeling or sense that my experience for the past 40 years as a protestant has been incomplete. Please don't put words in my mouth.

When I did my Masters degree I was good friends with a 60 year old colleague who was married to a Thai wife. One evening while we were in the computer lab he told me that while he and his family was in Thailand, his family said he behaviour suddenly became extremely bizarre. Finally, after much consultation with the local Thai people, his wife and kids were told to bring the husband to a Catholic church for an exorcism which was performed by a Catholic priest.
I didn't think much of the story that my colleague told me but he did seem to be quite genuine about the story that took place in Thailand and I had know the person for around 2 years already.
However, one evening his 14 year old son and 18 year old daughter had accompanied their father to the computer lab that day. Just for the sake of interest, I asked the son and daughter about their dad's demonic possession and exorcism that took place in Thailand. Sure enough, the son and daughter vouched on behalf of the father that the father's demonic possession and exorcism were 100% REAL.
The father wasn't in the room at the time when I asked the son and daughter about their father's demonic possession either and both the son and daughter had no reason to lie to me either since they knew I was good friends with their dad.
It's interesting, since I also encountered a second demonic possession story while I was in the Philippines. However, this one the teenage girl that had become possessed was due to her playing with the occult....
People who are highly skeptical of demonic possessions and exorcism need to be informed that these spiritual paranormal events are indeed 100% REAL phenomenons that exist and happen to people. As the Bible tells us, the spiritual and physical world interact with one another and the Bible does explicitly warn people never to tamper with the occult.

OH NO! The Catholic Church has lost its way sadly 😥 - they are in competition with Holywood.
As Christians, we need to ask ourselves these questions:
What are we expected to take with us spiritually once we've vacated this mortal body?
What have we learnt & done on this Earth that we can proudly stand before The Lord Jesus Christ on judgement day when we face Him?
Pride, almost arrogance displayed - our Catholic priests are the only one's who are powered to perform an exorcism. Are they really the only ones who can perform this act/service- effectively? 🤔

    Father Casey,
I wish more parishes did weekly small groups. I know the Jesuits have their CLC groups.
I was raise Roman Catholic, I was an alter server for 7 years. I had my first encounter with Jesus when I was 10 when my life was spared.
Now I go to a non denominational church but am always looking for parishes that do more than just weekly mass.
I know some of my outlooks are different from the church, like I believe that as the Church treats baptism for babies as a dedication ceremony. Parents saying I am dedicating raising this child in the teachings of the church. Right now I am in a church that does have small groups that meet on Sundays and Wednesdays and my kids go to Sunday school and Wednesdays. I wish there were more parishes out there to both equip and sustain its families.

It's so clear in my mind that none of these have absolutely no power over my life, simply because I don't allow it to and because God, who infinitely more powerful than petty evil, protects me from it at all times.

Well, they have books and pamphlets available with the pertinent prayers. And search TH-cam for interviews with Catholic Priest Exorcists. Although I have no reason to believe that I am possessed, some of the videos offer great advice for staying demon-free, and to get rid of partial possessions, which is a real thing. I remember some of it, which is basically just being a “Good Catholic “, such as going to confession and receiving the Eucharist; playing (actual) Gregorian Chant continuously, at a low level, in your house; and the big one, pray the rosary at least 3 times a day, at precisely 6:00 AM (Fr. Carlos Martins says that 7:00 AM won’t do. It MUST be 6:00 AM), 12:00 noon and 6:00 PM.
TH-cam videos with Fr. Carlos Martins (a former atheist, he’s actually taught other priests how to be exorcists), and Fr. Ripperger seem to have the largest presence on the web, although neither one has a website. Fr. Carlos does have a podcast, though. The Exorcist Files.
Or else, just search the web for prayers to protect you from demons.
It doesn’t sound to me that you’re fully possessed, though I’m no expert. I just watch TH-cam videos about it.

Not sure if anyone will see this.
But does casting an evil spirit out, sometimes lead to the person being in a worse condition?
I'm just thinking about Matthew 12:43-45.
I got possessed about 7 years ago, it was intense.
But God helped me overcome them and then said "I will lead you to me one day."
Four years later, backed up into a corner and out of fight, I called out to Him.
And within the next day or two I found Jesus.
But the demonic influence didn't immediately leave like I'd hoped it would have.
Instead I got a word from someone "Don't seek a cure, draw closer to God."
Ultimately I feel like that might be the way God wants me to go about it.
Walking in repentance and sanctification, slowly giving them less and less room in my mind, heart and life.
I've tried asking people to cast them out of me in the past.
Even tried casting them out myself with seemingly varying results.
But I would usually find moments of peace and freedom, followed by a heavier burden and suffering, as worse demons showed up.
So yeah, sorry I do usually get a bit carried away with explaining stuff.
But I was wondering if that was something that is mentioned in these understandings.
Cheers and God bless you and yours everybody ✝️

Sadly, that is the way it appears, Jesus Christ has been relegated to the back seat with all the showy nonsense.
I watched a TV programme last week on a pilgrimage in Portugal commemorating the appearance of Our Lady at Lourds - and felt very upset/sad at what I witnessed. Candles lit and singing dirge hymns carrying a STATUE of mother Mary above their shoulders with such reverence and worship. IT'S NO WONDER WE ARE LABELLED IDOL WORSHIPPERS. One of the pilgrims (former Roman Catholic) returned home to Ireland as he was unable to stomach this act of idolatry. Gosh! Father Casey, can you not see where the church is headed🤔.

I have been seeing many exorcist & exorcism from my childhood right from my own house to outside world even my family, but the only thing is that the person should be willing to leave evil & evil doings and be free his will is very important for that evil spirit to leave/losen the holds over his life the contract he got into is due to the evil life he/she lead, therefore even jesus asked the man do u want to be healed if a person repents and believe in Jesus he will surely set him free, also long prays make no sense unless u carry the authority & presence of god and god gives u the power to set an individual free untill that even the evil knows a man without power can do nothing to him, this is in the gospel too when disciples try to remove unclean spirit from a boy but they don't leave untill jesus commands them and then when they ask jesus why they couldn't do it, He answers u lack in deeper prayer, only by that u can drive such spirits out, long prayers dont make sense untill a person doesn't carry god presence and authority which comes by being holy and staying close to god by praying & doing his will. Have seen this in real life as soon as a demon possessed person comes/bought close to an individual/man of god filled by gods holy spirit the aura or the presence, the demons start manifesting and the person rolls, screams, yells, vomits, walks like spider on fours or crawl like a snake or anyother spirit in which form it manifest etc, cause he cannot stand the spirit of god and has to leave and feels tortured by the presence of holy spirit by the physical man carrying the presence of god, hence only a person with such power and authority given by god himself can do such things by practice and hence only few such priest & pastors are available but evils isn't only limited to such things but also things like disasters, accident, disease and bad incidents its just that common man look at it as a human accident or physical thing but a good exorcist immediately recognises the work of devil as he his lead by the spirit of god.👍

I think to remember the pope having said (two years ago, or something) that the important thing when Jesus encountered the devil in the desert is that he did not go into dialogue with the devil. So if we're not supposed to go into dialogue with the devil, why do we speak to him (8:57)? If the devil speaks to us and we speak to the devil, I would say that is a dialogue...

Maybe I need help. I was seeing in the past weird entities when I was laying on the bed. About 2 times. One in my dream when I was a little kid, but I somehow fought it and then after kicking it I woke up, and last year (when I was 17) it was not a dream. It was weird, because I was sleeping then I opened my eyes but then a black creature, very skinny and it had a disturbing face. His teeth very sharp and a bright smile, a creepy smile. With red eyes. It stared at me, I was so scared that I tried avoiding eye contact. After I closed my eyes and turned to the other side where I was laying, he was in my mind, it’s weird. That demon was like inside me and then I started moving. I couldn’t control the movement. And it hurt, the movements on my bed where so inhuman that it hurt. After that I went unconscious and I can‘t remember what happened after. The other time I was possessed was 2 weeks ago. I was sleeping and I was in a dream. I was a Little kid, and some perverted old man grabbed me, and then after I tried holding him back from me I woke up. But when I woke up I started screaming. That scream was very weird. It was like a „HHHHUUUUUUAA“ and I sounded weird like a zombie. Also my body moved inhuman. I was bending my back but I was also lifting. I Hope I wasn’t floating. I really hope that I am tripping. The worst case is that I was floating. And now I am very confused.
Oh I forgot to add something very disturbing. When I was having that dream which was 2 weeks ago, I was on a path. And it was not my body. It was like I was a soul, a spirit. And there were strange noises, and a language I never heard. That language was aggressive, quick and silent. And I liked that strange language. I don’t know, now that I remember it, it was a creepy language. But I was tempted to talk to them in the same language. And I was talking with the strange voices in their language. What I did was idk, repeating what they said. I don’t know why I did it, it seemed fun. But I really don’t know why I did it. And then I was moving. It was a path. I don’t know, it was a weird path, it wasn’t 3 dimensional. And then I got to a destination. It was not like I saw it, it felt like a destination. And after that destination I had that aggressive, silent but fast language speaking voices in my head. And it was so dominating that I hated it, I can remember that after hearing them I was scared. And I tried screaming „Jesus“ idk why I did it. I screamed „Jesus“ but the problem is. After I wanted to say it the third time, I went mute. It was weird. I couldn’t speak, it’s like my muscles went numb.
That was what I wanted to include.
I don’t know if it’s all random or that I need an exorcist. I tried following Jesus in the past years but I am so lukewarm, and I was also pagan weeks ago. Now I stopped being pagan, and I am so confused and need help.

Yes and no. Yes, if you are devoting yourself to God and still believing that Holy Spirit will guide you everyday, then demonic or evil spirit can not harm you. But it doesn't mean it wouldn't. No, you are not always immune. Even after being baptized or after received sacrament of confirmation, if your behaviour acts in daily life are far from what God's teaching or you keep doing sins, then you're separating away yourself from God's grace and protection. That's the moment when demonic spirit will try to tempt, harm, or even possessing you.

I am a studying Protestant theologian and I was confused on how the faith of the believer plays into the act of Catholic exorcism. Is the teaching that the priests belief is enough to expel the spirit or does the person who has the spirit have to be Christian or even Catholic for it to work. I feel like I’ve read from some sources that say it won’t work if the person is not a professing Christian but others have written that it doesn’t matter the faith of the person so long as the priests faith is strong enough.

I had an Exorcism in bible college and it actually worked. I had a demon physically touch me when I was a little kid so that is why they did it. I get why you say you wouldn't go to protestant's not that they didn't know what they were doing but that I can't talk to anyone and 99.9999% don't have any idea how it would work or what to do about it because it's so out of their reality. It wasn't done in public at all. it was with a mentor that I met and they got another professor that knew what he was doing.. You really don't need to be a priest or a Christian to cast out demons. It says in the bible that they will say we cast out demons in your name and he will say get away from me I never knew you. The power is all in the name of Jesus
Any sin allows demons to influence you on that sin. Any of those can be cast out in the name of Jesus. You don't need to be crazy and spitting pea soup before it's a legit demon. Everyone but saints have them and that is only because of the purification of totally submitting to God
The way I learned it is this..
In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to revel yourself and I bind you In the name of Jesus
Then you can ask them what they are doing there or you can silence them in the name of Jesus
then you cast them as far as the east is from the west
they cannot hold on to anyone or anything on their way
I command you to await your judgment at the foot of the cross. in the name of Jesus
Then you command them to leave in the name of Jesus.
It's very similar to what you do in structure. But I only do it on myself on areas I know I"m being attacked. It's still your will to sin but you can reduce the temptation a lot and it does stress you out and rob you of energy if you don't. I worked in a max security prison for years and had to do it regularly.
It's not you it's the power of the name of Jesus.
