Taker vs Sting, Taker vs Goldberg. Etc etc etc. Would have been HUGE!
The first 2 years of the brand split Smackdown was by far the better show. RAW felt like more of the sports entertainment show where as Smackdown felt like the wrestling show. That Smackdown roster in late 02-03 was stacked as hell.

The only problem I ever had with the brand split was Raw is always Vince's baby. Something gets over on Smackdown, months later Vince bring it to Raw and hamstrings Smackdown.

But the periods when Vince grabbed someone from Smackdown to Raw, yet Smackdown eventually builds up again ahead of Raw -- that's the story of the "transition of power" in the long term... Not to sound like I'm giving a promo for the WWE Network (screw that, it's still the WWF to me!,) but NXT was the harbinger and 205 Live is now following -- subscribers are the testbed... The "true" fans are slowly but surely guiding the ship... The WWE as a company, as a whole, realises that there will be ebbs and flows with the general viewer, but it's the core audience that truly matters in the long term. It's a fine line to walk as a publicly traded company, but it seems like it'll eventually work itself out (I hope! 😜)
Here's why you don't get business: You produce cars and GM pays you $150 million to make Cadillac and $30 million to make Buick. If your team designs something for Buick that works, you're a goddamn idiot not to shift it to Cadillac, because that makes you the most money. Then when GM says, "Hey, why don't you treat Buick like Cadillac?", you reply, "Well you give me $150 million for Buick and $150 million for Cadillac then they'll be treated equal"...and you know who you don't share that reality with? The marks that buy both brands.

Triple H responded by saying "I saw him earlier & he was totally out of it"--Implying about his pain killer addiction. HBK talked about this in his book. He & Triple H didn't talk for a year
The draft lottery should’ve been every two years like the first one was. Rock was the only guy who was allowed to switch shows from 02-04 after the rosters were frozen and it was a big deal

I guess it's because I just don't take these kinds of things too seriously, but I never minded the brands intermingling occasionally, or guys jumping ship or starting feuds with the other show. All I had at the time was Smackdown, so getting to occasionally see RAW guys/girls was a real treat for me. To me it would make sense for certain guys to jump ship if a better offer came up as it kinda reminded me of the Monday Night Wars. I also viewed Stone Cold as having put "option clauses" in his contract to make sure he got the most amount of money possible as a middle finger to the boss, much like how certain athletes can veto being traded to certain teams, same with the NWO if they're all on the same contract, and if I remember correctly the Benoit situation was more of a "Where Eddie goes I go" and simply renegotiated his contract. I could also buy Eric Bischoff screwing the rules just to mess with a McMahon. I guess I'm just easy to please lol. Great podcast by the way, friends. Keep up the great work.
I actually personally side with Vince too on the Big 4. Why would you from a business standpoint make those brand specific? They are your biggest events of the year! Why WOULDN'T you want to make them a supershow? To me it'd have been a mistake to not. Nothing is special/big then if you don't put em together there. You saw that in a way with last year's Smackdown MITB too, not the same as if they had put the brands together, and they obviously knew it because they are back together this year (granted all PPVs are going to be cobranded now again, but still even before that was announced they were gonna make that one cobranded). It just makes business sense to make your big events as big as you can make them.
FYI, The First WWF Draft is the FALL of WWE wrestling. From 2001 Invasion Storyline to WWF to WWE & the 1st Draft, it all help usher it to where now i prefer the booking ideas of Fans because today's storylines, gimmicks & characters SUCK.

Hate the brand split... Watered everything down. Muddys the pecking order. Decreases tag teams. Makes world titles mean less. We had JBL as a champion for a year!!!! Its what made me stop watching wrestling every week.
