    I love STW but this was a 3 hour hit piece on Goldberg. I know his first WWF run wasn't the best, but it wasn't all his fault. He was hot as hell going into Summerslam and the crowd was going crazy for him when he entered the chamber. He should have won the title then and there. The fans were never more behind him than they were during that elimination chamber.

    Listening to this makes me appreciate Goldberg's 2nd run in the WWE more. I feel that Goldberg and the WWE both realized the errors they made. From what I hear, Goldberg was more mature and approachable in the locker room. And the WWE realized they should really play to Goldberg's strengths: Keep the matches short and sweet.

      I think everyone base their opinions on the Lesnar match. I’ve rewatched a lot of those matches from 03-04 and they’re dope. Yes, it could’ve been better but he was still learning the WWE style. He got better at selling, doing promos and wrestling longer matches. He should’ve gone to Smackdown after Wrestlemania 20. Imagine feuds with Angle, Benoit, Eddie, Edge, Big Show (again) and a better match with The Undertaker. (Also no Triple H to deal with).

    I know some people are going to see this as somewhat of a burial of Goldberg, but everything being told here sounds objective. I think, like Bruce said, both sides could have done things a lot better and differently. When you hear about all of the behind the scenes stuff, it all sounds like it was much worse than it actually appeared. As a big Goldberg mark from his WCW days, I was just glad to finally get to see him in WWE. I think sometimes too much is made of the whole Golddust wig thing. I thought it was a good way to make it seem like Goldberg didn’t take himself to seriously. There was quite a bit that wasn’t good, but there was also some stuff I enjoyed. I really liked the few times Goldberg got in the ring with Mark Henry. Henry was very believable as someone Goldberg would have to sell for, and I thought he did a pretty good job of it. It was kind of refreshing to see him in a match where he was outclassed strengthwise. I never thought the Brock match at WM20 was nearly as bad as everyone says. I thought he and Brock had some pretty cool spots, that showed just how evenly matched the two “big bulls” were. I think with both of them being as green as they were, they weren’t able to adapt and improvise when the crowd started shitting on them. And, like Bruce said, neither of them probably even cared at that point. Anyway, was glad WWE brought him back and got that nice little mini run out of him. 👍

    • @antology7
      @antology7 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally correct. Goldberg also sold for Kane and Shawn Michaels (even though Goldberg was hurt from a previous Mark Henry attack). I still rewatch those matches and enjoy em.

      The only deeper burial of Goldberg would be if the Undertaker literally lowered his worthless carcass into the earth.
      I’m not sure anyone can say he deserves to be in the HOF after listening to this…
      He couldn’t wrestle.
      He couldn’t act.
      He couldn’t do promos.
      He couldn’t get along with his coworkers and he threw temper tantrums in the dressing room when he was expected to put other wrestlers over.
      This podcast confirmed what most wrestling fans already knew about Goldberg… he was nothing more than a cheap, Wish List Stone Cold knock off.

    I keep hearing people blaming the crowd at Mania XX. "The crowd turned on them, that made them care even less." That match was almost 14 minutes and Brock and Bill literally stood around for about 10 of those. If they had actually tried, they could've turned the crowd around

    Here's the thing, you have to understand the position that goldberg was put into. It wasn't his fault that he had the "IT FACTOR". he trained for a short period of time in the power plant to get the basics down and WCW needed new stars to compete with WWF that was making a comeback.they realized he resembled stone cold in his look and voice and threw him into the mix immediately. He was pushed to the moon faster than any other wrestler at the time when he wasn't ready yet. That isn't his fault AT ALL. was he supposed to say "NO I dont want all that money, fame, and championships. I want to be a midcarder for another 2 years first". Now I agree in that his attitude later on did not help him but that was also because people like Hogan, hall, nash all got into his ear and told him what to do and say and bill was gullible and vulnerable so he listened to them because why wouldn't he take the advice from the 3 biggest and highest paid stars in the entire organization? They also hooked him up with Hogans lawyer/attorney whonwas a mostly hated cut throat lawyer that would get his clients their money lol. But I truly believe it was 80% environment/surrounding people and 20% Bill himself that ended up hurting him and his career in the long run. Just my opinion, -Cheers!

    BEST BRUCE MOMENT: Conrad steps up and proves he is a better host+interviewe than Howard Stern, in this exchange we are rewarded for being so patient and we get a purely exceptional glimpse into Bruce and Conrad- who they are- their personalities. Conrad - again- asks another brilliant question- if we were watching stern, it would take an exhaustingly painful 4 hours to get his best question- which would be equal to Conrad's 20th best question. It's like if Nascar came to NYC and we raced them 20 vs. 20. Nascar would finish 16th and 19th- NY wins 1-15,17,20. So Conrad asks about compensation and Bruce proves to possess a moral compass. It's near 2.35.00 when they kick around Goldberg's tenure with both shops. BRUCE- GIVE IN A LITTLE ON THE CONTRACTS- there is no good reason to not share this- people get paid $11 an hour- with a college degree- entertainment includes hearing about how much money these brainless idiots make. They should invite Scott Steiner to the late night how ( who carees whih one they all suck- maybe conan is ok still), yeah bring Steiner in...get him alll excited til he finds out we just want to hear him answer questions ans show us how stupid he is. TY bruce and conrad!

    The limo window was an accident from everything I’ve ever heard....not a temper tantrum. The window wasn’t “gimmicked”,and he thought it was as I recall. When it comes to his “drawing power”...WTF did the WWE expect after killing his character seemingly as much as they possibly could for months only to eventually have him lose to Hunter(like they did to EVERYONE that wasn’t his buddy backstage)????? They buried Sting,Booker T,DDP,Steiner(3 of those had Hunters involvement-SURPRISE!)...ANYONE who was a WCW made star. Anyone who tries to pretend this wasn’t the case is just ignorant or lying.
    I don’t blame Goldberg at all for getting pissed at these morons sabotaging him once they got him and burning truckloads of money. Bruce calling the belt a “prop” and acting like it’s suddenly not important is such bullshit...if it was really like that,explain the Montreal screw job...explain ANY time management said someone EARNED the belt....explain why they took the belt off Hunter,ONLY TO ALMOST IMMEDIATELY GIVE IT BACK TO HIM??????? Typical hypocrisy of the WWE management- it’s only right if they say so,it’s only wrong if they say so. Historical revisionism and spinning the narrative is what they do.

    • @AmandaRogersarock1988
      @AmandaRogersarock1988 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Goldberg has admitted he was supposed to break the window with a sledgehammer and instead, got mad and chose to use his hand and arm.
      Goldberg struck me as the type that never really believed in the work side of things (for example, if someone said something about him in an interview it was 'real' to him). WCW didn't smarted him up in that respect and let the likes of Kevin Nash/Scott Hall etc get him riled up. Not coming from a wrestling background, I can't blame him to start; however, he never really wanted to study it and delve deeper. I truly believe Goldberg believe his own hype that WCW created. He was a monster of a character and I'm also truly glad he got into the HOF. A good day in my childhood was Bill beating Hogan for the title finally- it just felt so perfect when it happened.
      WWE's biggest mistake was Goldberg vs. Lesnar the first time at Wrestlemania 20--what a train wreck of a match.

      It’s called “the heroes journey” jackass...it’s a common literary plot. Someone comes out of nowhere to challenge the status quo(NWO at the time) and slowly works their way up to the main boss. It’s also what legitimate fighting sports world champions do. I don’t see your point other than being a fucking Goldberg hater. What a douche

      This is amazing . Did you really just use the phrase “common literary plot” when talking about Bill Goldberg? For fuck’s sake. I am a Goldberg hater for multiple reasons. Number one, I’m not some simple minded idiot who thought he was cool because he was allowed to beat people in a few seconds simply to hide that he fucking sucked. Number two, he was a careless asshole who injured people and ended the career of, arguably, the best wrestler of all time. Number three, his idiotic fans, like you, that are too stupid to comprehend that he didn’t deserve what came to him and the business would have been better off without him. It’s not 1998, anymore. I’m sorry that you haven’t figured that out, yet. Goldberg sucks and always has.

    Whats funny about the Austin rip off is Goldberg was shaving his head and had the goatee at the end of his football career 1994 95. Austin was in ecw sporting no facial hair and long blond locks at that time. The only thing goldberg ripped off was the trunks. Austin never wore mma gloves or elbow pads. There styles are completly different too so the rip off thing is amusing to me.

    WWE creative was whacked.
    How can the number one wrestling company in the world not know how to use Goldberg?
    I think the wwe creative was conflicted between what they could do what they couldn't do what they wanted to do and what they didn't want to do.
    With what they didn't want to do being the deciding factor in decision-making.
    I sense a certain degree of incompetence in WWE creative in how they handled Goldberg at this time.
    Goldberg had every right to feel paranoid because the creative was using him like crap.
    I also think some of the other wrestlers were dictating how they were going to work with Goldberg when they should have been told what to do with Goldberg.
    To me it seems easy it's Goldberg! have a sphere have a jackhammer have him slam people around the ring. that's what people wanted to see they wanted to see a good match.
    He didn't necessarily have to squash everybody he could have won by DQ he could have won by count out or he could have won by DQ or lost by count out.
    To say that they only had Goldberg for only a year is a lame excuse for not being able to use him in a properly creative way.
    I would have paid the creative 100,000 sandwiches to use Goldberg the right way. LMAO.
    "Boo hoo...we only had him for a year. We couldn't do anything with him." Nonsense! Bring him in put the belt on him. Let him go 1,000-0.
    If they had problems with his in ring work, just work with him.

    • @TheTruth-pl3mk
      @TheTruth-pl3mk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm going to say Sting, just because of what he meant to the business overall. It's a fact that Vince wanted Sting for the longest time and was made to wait so long to finally get him signed. Only to have him job to HHH. It was very odd booking and took a lot of sheen off Sting being there in WWE. The next thing would be DDP, because he was an underrated talent and they clearly didn't know what to do with, except bury him. The invasion thing...I don't think they could've done much more, considering they didn't have all the WCW stars available at the time. Without Sting, Goldberg, nWo, and so on, it was mostly C-list guys like Stasiak, Jindrak, O'Haire, Palumbo, etc. What to do?

    I love Bruce and Conrad. They are brilliant together. Even shows I wasnt especially looking forward to (Edge episode for example) were still really enjoyable.
    I am a little bit worried that the WWE endorsed second podcast will have a negative influence on the show. They, the WWE, may want to clean it up and make it as p.c. and squeaky clean as possible which, in turn, would almost certainly damage Bruce´s storytelling style and the chemistry between himself and Conrad.
    I hope Im wrong.
