Wow. I was actually at the DMC US Finals in 2004 in the audience. DJ I-Dee was the first DJ up and his was the first turntablist set I'd ever seen live. Really dope seeing him doing it big still.
So dope.Much respect to i-dee.Been in the game for a minute and been consistently bringing the technical level to ridiculous heights but making it flow well is the toughest thing to do and he does it so well..Much love.
Reading the hater comments I have to reply.😃 I met one of this dudes friends lastnight at a show & just checked it out. I'm 40 & I'm sick of hearing the same oldschool scratch sounds & breaks! Its old & overly recycled. Its called evolution & this dude is acurate as fuck with the cuts. P.S. control vinyls are awesome. I make beats & now I can finally scratch & double my own beats. Control vinyls feel & work just like regular vinyl, but the beat never gets worn out due to scratching. Even D.J. Qbert uses control vinyls now. Theres nothing wrong with using a laptop either. You guys are stuck in the past 😉
I get bored of the current generation of DJs using custom sample with serato and using dubstep. I miss the times when you hear a set and wandered what sample and where they got it from. Its not interesting anymore when they can just make their own samples since there is no more skill in finding sample from an old vinyl and actually figuring out how to make it work with your set.
+Mit kaisej True DJs (who are secure with themselves) don't spend their time trolling winning champion videos. True DJs could also do their research and find out out that DJ I-Dee has won titles on all vinyl too. AND FURTHERMORE are you saying that the pioneering DJs in Hip Hop - Bambaataa, GM Flash, GW Theodore, Jazzy Jay, etc are not "true DJs" because they use laptops?
+STACKTRACE Let each DJ be what they want to be and do what they want to do. It's a different time for DJs. They have moved on with technology - even the pioneers and legends. The battles would have died out with the DJs from the late 90s not battling anymore. But for the DJs of today to keep hearing that they don't compare to the DJs of the 90s must be tiring, like a broken record.
+Christie Z-Pabon Technology has taken away the need for many raw skills that were present in the best DJ's of the 90's. At the risk of sounding like a broken record - those DJ's were much more creative and fun to watch in my opinion. Hip Hop music was also much better back then. No flames, just my opinion.
Dude is dope but I wish the recent winners would do creative tricks like the dudes in the 90's did. Most competitors these days don't have to flip vinyl and do needle drops like the days of old. I'm not saying they should ditch Serato - I'm saying the art form was (in my opinion) generally more creative and interesting back in the early 90's.
My opinion on this DJ right now.He would be exceptional in the 80's to 90's standards for vinyl art form in NYC DJ competition. He has skills but this kind of noisy computer devil music if awful.
I agree that the music selection wasnt enough to showcase his skills, although he has some definite skills.Fortunately my music palate is wide enough to give him the credit due, instead of being stuck somewhere else...
if I could DJ as good as these guys I would do a routine with "DEBBIE DEB - LOOK OUT WEEKEND" and get the part were it says "look out week" and where she says "dj's " and do something with it.
what i like about dubstep as a dancer and doing public dance circles is that it helps with antihip movements and puts attention to other body movements.
Not trying to troll, I haven't followed the DJ battle loop in quite a minute. I-Dee's obviously got serious skills but what's with all the button pushing? Serious question...is it in place of the phono/line switch or something?
Rane mixer with inbuilt Serato, mac laptop on his right side. The buttons were to either load and play samples or to swap to the next track in the playlist etc, saves a lot of time compared to changing records
If Technics turntables are discontinued then what kind of prize do the first, second and third place winners get? Still Technics turntables? New, old, used or something else?
Not to hate on other people's choice of music but I really wish they would separate battles into hip-hop DJ battles or dubstep/edm battles! For us looking for OG hip-hop battles it's very annoying to click on a battle video and have to hear dubstep aka annoying glitch noises aka robots trowing up. lol :D But seriously though I do think all DJ music has a place in these competitions but maybe just in separate categories, like maybe a category for hip-hop & funk breaks... and another category for EDM. Maybe some the EDM people don't want to hear the hip-hop & funk breaks, just like some people don't particularly want to hear EDM... just a thought. :)
Of course this guy is a fuckin' god but I don't like the EDM so I don't like this routine too much. As well, the cuts are pretty dirty, I don't know. He deserved to win, i guess...
IchiNoize not a 1st place routine imo. but now a days not many are. you'd think with dvs and controllers turstablists would get better and more interesting especially with dubstep and trap. cats like a-trak and craze paved the way for some serious creativity. this doesn't cut it, pun intended.
beat juggling is okay and all....but come on....where's the pure scratching, cutting, etc? I love djs who make the scratching, etc sound like it's an instrument in a given song!!!!
Haven’t seen it yet but if it’s the dubstep remix I’m thinking of. I have that record, it’s sick. Can’t wait to see if it’s the same, and how he cuts it up! Edit. Damn. Was hoping he was gonna cut up that remix, but it was sick how he mixed the main melody in. I wanted more of it tho, lol. The drop on that remix is so sick. All in all an amazing display of skillz tho. And for all the technology haters, go watch Funkmaster Flex’s Science of being a hip hop DJ. He’s totally into modern setups and uses Traktor himself with a laptop and pioneer decks. You can’t keep pushing boundaries when you limit yourself by being a vinyl purist. Watch MixMasterMike, Jazzy Jeff, Craze, Trayze, 4 Color Zach, they all use modern setups with laptops.

+sparda9060 true dj's dont need a laptop

+Christie Z-Pabon sparda9060's comment is far from a troll. He's tired of the current generation Serato/dubstep, which I definitely understand.

legendary set

Deserving of the Title!!! That's what's called "On Time!" This is a classic, quickly.
Beast-like!!!!! Proud of this dude!!!! Followed him from the first DMC… he deserved to place then!!!! I wish my skills were as complex...
By three minutes in, I was IN. Dope set. Gotta keep what I-D has been up to lately. HELLA SICK.
Stop reading this comment and go practice.
DJAS1 ok!

DJAS1 just got some scratches in!
+DJAS1 Thank you!
haha good one! This is why I never took Turntablism to the next level :)
I remember seeing him at the 2004 DMC US championship in Los Angeles. He was the first Dj up. Damn I got a good memory
The Holy Grail set is craziest shit I seen in a long time. how didn't win the world title with that is beyond me.
+Unga Touch All in all - he won the 2014 DMC World Online title and took 2nd at the World Finals so he did amazingly well!
I agree that the music selection wasnt enough to showcase his skills, although he has some definite skills.Fortunately my music palate is wide enough to give him the credit due, instead of being stuck somewhere else...
Love it!!
noise! they play hip hop tracks anymore
if I could DJ as good as these guys I would do a routine with "DEBBIE DEB - LOOK OUT WEEKEND" and get the part were it says "look out week" and where she says "dj's " and do something with it.
ferndog681 thats a pretty good idea bro
That was nasty!! Got Damn!! One of the best battle sets I've seen.
what is the song of 8:42? please and thank you
Dont know... There was no flow and personally i think dubstep sucks... Anyway he has a mad finger technique
what i like about dubstep as a dancer and doing public dance circles is that it helps with antihip movements and puts attention to other body movements.
Yeah that D.J Switch set was just as dope I could see the dilemma. I would edge it to Idee but it wouldn't be by large margin either.

We at a hiphop show or a dubstep show?
We are at a DJ battle that doesn't tell DJs what to select. DMC never started out as a Hip Hop battle - though it is known for being one.
Not to hate on other people's choice of music but I really wish they would separate battles into hip-hop DJ battles or dubstep/edm battles!

Actually in DMC - DJs can use ANY music they want.
RuthlessHigh i honestly would luv to hear dubstep n trap scratchin
4:18 to 4:32 was the best part

Matafffff
His APM is ridiculous
後半の2人のスクラッチルーティーンかっこいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいい
I cannot do that.
Too hectic
1 minute into his routine and I'm like wtf are u playing?? Like techno dubstep with a splash of hip hop....this isn't DMC I'm sorry👎
This is DMC and this is a DMC US Champion as as well as a DMC World Online Champion. DMC has no rules on what any music anyone can use.
Poor music choices. He got skills no doubt and very creative though.
Ragazzo mio fai paura...
That darude-sandstorm part gave me the chills
