There is no singer quite like Patti Labelle. Her voice, energy, and stage presence are unmatched. We have been blessed to have some great singers, and Patti is definitely among them. Great reaction video.

My ex-husband use to dedicate this song to me,(yeah right), but it's a beautiful song. I see Billy Preston on piano,( he sang it also). Patti just took the man's song from him. That was highway robbery. Lol!

@@michaelasay8587 Yeah, they did use a lot of creative licensing but they sure had a great time. And Billy Preston, who wrote it, went right along with it.

"You Are So Beautiful" was a gigantic hit for Joe Cocker in the seventies, the same year Patti LaBelle dropped "Lady Marmalade" actually. I wonder what event that clip is from. The host looked like Bill Cosby. The gentlemen in the box seats may have been Barry Gordy of Motown Records. Joe Cocker pioneered a sound in the late sixties that might be called big band blue eyed soul. His 1970 live album, Mad Dogs & Englishmen, defined the genre for years during its hey day in the early seventies. That album features Cocker with nine backing singers across various combinations of players. They go to church on "Feeling Alright", "The Letter", "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" and "With A Little Help From My Friends". Bobby Keys lays down a sax solo for the ages on "The Letter". Good stuff!

This performance is from the May 1985 NBC special MOTOWN RETURNS TO THE APOLLO, hosted by Bill Cosby. It was Patti's performance on this special that turned her into a superstar, literally overnight. A few months later, she headlined LIVE-AID and by Thanksgiving, she had her own TV special.

Thanks. May 1985 was the month before I graduated from high school, so I was likely too busy socializing to watch much TV back then. I looked it up. The show aired on Sunday May 19, 1985.

This performance was a part of "Motown Returns to the Apollo", from 1985, the entire show has legendary performances, it's a must watch for old school music fans. You should react to it if you find a clear enough version. And just a heads up it's at least 2hrs, but worth watching

A great performance! That's what you do when you perform. If you want to hear the original listen to the record. Patti brought the heat and energy 🔥and brought the bet out of Joe.

I still think that Elton John and George Michael singing Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me live is as good a duet as you will get, and I wasn’t even a George Michael fan and couldn’t even name one of his hits.

Poor old Joe - although he can belt stuff out when he wants to, his version of this song is so beautifully delicate and emotional that in places it's barely audible. He didn't stand a chance here!

Sir, you need to see Joe's best performance - at Woodstock singing With A Little Help From My Friends. It shook everyone who saw it. Joe is just a little past his best here. Oh, and NO Janis Joplin? My word, you are missing something there. Maybe (live on the Ed Sullivan Show) and Cry, Baby (Live) are just out of this world. She almost puts every other female singer into the shade. Died young, sadly. I much prefer her to Patti - even more (genuine) emotion. The greatest.I think with Patti there is too much Las Vegas type showmanship with the glitzy dress and hairstyle. With Janis she was just a hippy but when she sang it was all internal, not putting on a show for the audience like Joe and Patti. Janis had a lot of anguish inside her and that's the difference. The Ed Sullivan one is probably the best one to see her for the first time.
