Liam,
Been doing this for years. Still playing off low single figures after 45+ years. Will always promote a draw. I remember OMP explaining to you why a driver off the deck always fades.
OMP always makes sense.
Liam finally having tees of his own. That's the real difference. 😂
🤣
There’s no way..he’ll be asking Pete for some tees…
I use the lowest castle tee for irons and 3W. Have seen tips saying 10mm castle tee for long irons.
Driver is the purple / pink castle tee
Must have a new sponsor 😂😂
😆
Always a pleasure watching you two!
Been watching you boys this summer since I started playing myself. You're fast becoming my favourite channel, just real normal people. Keep it up
Keep going at it lad's always worth the watch!!
I always use red castles for irons and pink ones for driver 👌🏼
I use the orange tee if I have room for error but pink if I want it to find the fairway.
Nice vid Liam
I use the Orange tees for most drives. Pink ones when I want to cut the driver.
Blue for fairway woods
Red 4 / 5 iron hybrids plus 6 iron
And greens for the rest.
Well played Liam 👍
Hi Liam, I've been using the orange tees for a long time, but always teed my irons lower. A couple of months ago a friend (6 handicap)
gave me a red castle tee. I've been hitting nearly all of the par three greens and my handicap has gone from 11 to 8. So I think your video is spot on! Can't wait to watch more of your videos 😊!
Saw this tip about teeing the ball higher a while ago and tried it for myself works for me I love it .I never understand why some people try to hit the ball off the turf on par threes ,tee it up its the only time you can have the perfect lie as mr Nicolas said .Well done Liam some great ball striking keep it up mate .
I like the castle tee as it gives you a consistent tee hight, it's more a matter of finding the hight that works for you. I use the tall ones for the driver and short red ones for irons and fairway woods. I've played some courses that have signs that they ask you to use a tee from the tees and not of the deck
I use the orange tee for driver and the blue/purple tee for other clubs. They improved my game. My nephew started playing golf last year and tried out my castle tees last week. He liked them. Great video! Also would like to see a match using the tip Pete recently got from the instructor.
Great stuff. Loved it!
I'm a pink tee for driver
Blue for 3 wood and 3 hybrid
Red for low irons (4-6)
No tee for the lower irons and wedges.
My experience as a high handicapper is that Orange Castled tee is for distance but pink castled tee is a fairway finder!
I normally play with a 1/2 set on the proper golf days but have another 1/2 set of my harder to hit clubs and I go for a practice round by myself and often tee up balls all over the fairways - just yo get a bit of confidence with the harder clubs ! Great fun !
It does visually look different when teeing up with wedges but I worked thru it. Love doing it with the irons, woods and surprisingly the hybrids. Good stuff!
Nice thinking Liam. I have recently tee'd up my irons higher at Cullen. it seems to have helped, but, as you say, it's remembering to keep it going.
I've always used castle tees because I like the consistency of height. Orange or pink for driver, yellow or blue for woods and blue or red for irons. Don't always use them for the more lofted clubs though, it depends on the conditions.
I’ve switched to orange tees from pinks in the last couple of weeks with driver, and I’m much happier with the ball flight. Getting it much more in the air than I was before.
Irons/hybrids - 25mm castle tee (green)
3 wood - 32mm castle tee (red)
tee it up when ever possible.
driver height depends on the driver in hand. I'm gaming a 50-yr old Hogan persimmon wood set so you can't tee it up to high but there is a definite advantage to the logic.
✌
Love it when you share you knowledge that you have picked up when caddie for the great Dan Gavins.
Have to say rasing my tee hight improved my game no end fro driver to irons. Was 23 hc in March down to 17 mid june. Love it
I have been using the orange castle tee for a couple of years and it changed/improved my drives( exactly half the ball above the driver head). On par 3’s I put my fingers under the ball and use the thickness of my fingers as the height ( Jack Nicklaus said tee it up when ever you are allowed). If the Pros do it, amateurs should too. Put your ego aside and play according to your abilities Pete.
Interesting video Liam! I'd usually use the pink castle tee's with driver and small green ones with the irons which I think is the one down from the orange and red ones you used in the video.
I watched this video a couple of days ago. Tried on saturday and again today Using a normal short tee pushed down. Not as low as I used to and it has definitely improved my iron tee shots. I sometimes change between pink and orange castles for driver. But at the moment I'm hitting driver well from the pink castle so avoiding the orange. (At the moment) !
Great tip thanks Golf mates.
Thank you
Keep 'em coming 🎉
I always tee up higher than my playing partners. I get better strikes with straighter shots. It did take some getting used to when I first started, but was well worth the effort.
Liam I’ve been doing this for a few month on a little 9 holer near me. It works for me buddy. Great video as usual. 😊
A few years ago you were talking with Daniel and he said us amateurs should tee our irons higher when on the tees. I’ve been doing that and I have been hitting my irons off the tees much better.
Guy Canada 🇨🇦
I'll try it this weekend !
Interesting video... Well played... Cheers...
Only been playing a year of about 35 but seen good improvement with castle tees (late 20s now) just gets you of to a better start and your head is in right place - the height consistency takes any ambiguity out.
Liam, I tried higher tees today and it worked for me, straighter and longer!😂
I watched the World Long Drive championships a few years ago and one thing I noticed was how high they tee the ball. I decided to start teeing my drives up with the tall orange castle tee and I've never looked back. I started to drive the ball longer and straighter, definitely worked for me.
I always play with the orange castle tees for driver tee shots. Dont use castle tees for iron tee shots, but tee up pretty close to what you use. I found the pink castle tees hit the ball a bit lower, but once in a while I topped it. no problem with popping up with orange castle, but I do make sure I push it into the ground firmly against the shoulder.
Been doing it a few months after watching Alex Elliot tip video I’ve got used to it now and it works for me ⛳️
You made the comment in a video about pros teeing up irons higher than amateurs shortly after winning with Dan on tour. I’ve doing it ever since and find more center strikes. Appreciate the tip!
Use a red castle tee with all irons but started using a blue castle tee with the 4 iron recently and it seems to be helping with launch.
I tee up the ball for my irons and driver at the same height you showed in this video. In fact my driver tee height is slightly higher than the Castle tee you used. Teeing up higher for driver generally helps you to hit from the inside, so it promotes more of a high draw flight. "Tee it high, and let it fly."
I use orange tee for Driver, but hit all other tee shots straight off the deck as cant get on with tees at any height.
Hi Liam and Pete tried the higher tees this morning on my local course Ballykisteen Golf Club Tipperary and I shaved 5 shots off my last score, I found depending on the wind it worked if wind with you but not so much if hitting into the wind, haven’t broken a 100 yet but I’m only playing golf since April. Really enjoy yeer videos, regards to OMP🇮🇪🇮🇪
Great video
I use Lignum Tees and tried simply goin one space higher, 3 lines not 2, with Driver and it made a big difference. Bought shortest Lignum for Par 3 teeing with 5W and 6i worked a treat.
I use a 4" tee for my driver, all other clubs 1.5" tees. I will experiment with teeing my irons just a touch higher than I currently do. Good topic to explore.
I always use orange castle tees for driver and have recently started using the red ones for everything else. I’m still crap but I get better results than when teeing them lower. I get less tops and thins teeing them higher
I've actually done the opposite, teeing it up a lot lower this year for my driver but higher for my irons and it has done wonders for my game! Interesting game golf is...
Teeing up for iron shots works for me. High tees for my driver shots are the problem. I get the point, but that does not guarantee that it‘ll work.
Great video guys 👍
Hi Liam I use pink with driver and red with irons off the tee works well for me keep up the good work love all your videos
Was using orange castle tees but started teeing the ball down in th wind in Scotland using white tees it transformed my driving. I use white tees all the time now. I use small normal tee for irons but it is teed up slightly.
I will try over the weekend mate
PS. Pete, think about the higher tee in relation to the arc of your swing. You may have to make some small adjustments in terms of the rising arc of the drive meeting the ball position. You can swing the same way as usual (essentially) but might have to move your stance slightly so that the club is a little further through the arc when it contacts the ball. Same swing (er) but just arrange to meet a tad later than your previous meetings. Clear as mud?
It really depends on your angle of attack, if you are hitting the driver up then the Orange height is great giving you distance and low spin, hitting more downwards will cause you to top it
Interesting experiment Liam! For drives off the tee for Par 4 & 5’s, I use a tee that has a rubber top above a plastic base that gives a consistent height for a driver. For Par 3’s, I use a short tee to ensure I get about 1/2” ball height. Couldn’t care less what the pros do, this works for me. Shouldn’t care what the pros do, you should always do what works for the individual. Good video though.
gonna head to the range this morning to give it a try. GOD bless!
Liam I use orange tees for driver except when into wind when I drop to pink to keep it low. Irons tee up just above grass level.Great video can we have more like that to help us improve our golf.
With my current swing plane I tried teeing the ball higher but tend to hit high and short drives with the higher tees. You need to or should practice with the higher tees before playing a round. Thanks for the comparison on tee heights.
Happy Happy birthday Mr Pete many many Happy returns of the day may God bless you, you guys played beautiful game
Thanks Liam for a wonderful golf day at CCH on Sunday 👍.
I’m deffo gonna give it a go and i will let ya know how i get on
Cracking video as always. I think it promotes a strike through the ball. Stop you getting too steep. Keep up the good work lads.
Tall tee when driving. Short one when using irons down to 7 then off the deck with shorter irons 👍🏼👌🏻 thanks for the vid
Hiya Liam/Peter, I always use large tees to drive(orange) but always told to tee just above grass on par threes to promote a downward strike, I will try teeing up highly now lol r&g playing tomorrow 😀 😉
Liam your tempo has been outstanding over the last few videos
Liam, I learned to tee up my Driver, or my 13° 3 wood, when entered a few Amateur Long Drive events. Now...I wasn't hitting my ball 400+ yards, I did win a couple of " Longest Drive " Amateur events in the 360 to 380 yard range.
I use a normal tee peg for my iron tee shots, red castle tee for my woods off the tee and a pink castle tee for my driver but im tempted to try the orange tee for a while
No idea what the different colors are but I use a 4" tee for drivers and tee up my iron shots a little extra. Oh, and my irons are an inch long and D8 to E0 swing weight. Really helps because the shafts are graphite.
I was taught originally to use a high tee for my driver - used to use the wooden ones with a blue stripe on it. Used to consistently melt the driver for miles using it. Now moved to a yellow banded tee and my driver is a little wild, and now tops out around 250 to 270 carry.
For irons, I've always teed them up. Wasn't told to do it, I just always thought you had to use a tee in the tee box! So been used to it from day 1. I know the pro's do it and you once asked Mr Gavins about it... the answer was simple, you get a better contact off the middle of the club face.
You should also get some extra distance as you will naturally stand up ever so slightly higher so the extra length should increase the club head speed a tad. I used my 6 iron off the tee today and manged to skelp it 215 yards! The ground was dry but my 6 iron normally tops out around 180 when hit clean, although I have on a few occasions hit the thing sweetly and soared past the 200 mark.
Great vid
I use orange for driver, red for 5 wood and green for irons
I've just started with a higher tee for the par 3s, as before I would tee it level with the ground and it has given me a higher ball flight.
I'm not teeing it up higher with the driver because I wasn't hitting it on the up and kept scooping it but it works well on a par three.
As a high handicap golfer I tee up higher for my driver, and half inch high for irons. It works for me.
Hi Liam ! I do use red castle tees on par 3 holes but pink on any tee shot using in driver. I will give the higher orange ones a go next time and give you an update. Golf is a confidence game and changing your routine is always a little strange at first. Pete had a little draw when teeing up higher and was pushing everything right with his normal tees. To me teeing higher had better results but not in his mind. 🤷♂️
Interesting viewing as always 👍👍
I don't use castles (trying to not use plastic these days), but I tee it about orange tee height for driver. However, irons I tee right down, having always used red castles when I was a beginner. So I'll certainly try teeing higher for the iron shots. Shame Pete gave it up after only a few shots - it's a big change and probably needs him to stick with it for a while. His direction looked better when he teed up.
I use a 3.5” tee barely in the ground for driver and tee fairly high with irons when I’m swinging well, but find a lower tee further back better with both if I am struggling.
Well played Pete, some lovely golf, the putter was a bit cold. It's always harder to putt on greens you havn't played before
Liam, I always use orange castle tees with driver as I feel I can hit up on the ball more. I’m 50 and drive the ball between 260-300yds
The actual playing tip is this,..
Sometimes even a pro gets tired and they can be guilty of the same thing most high handicaps do,....CASTING THE CLUB.
They tee the ball higher as they begin to tire or feel sluggish as it helps the casted club find the center of the clubface.
Even if youre casting, you may still manage to SQUARE your clubface, and if you put the ball there, you may still get the result you want from the shot, just with a few yards lost from the loft. You two are awesome to watch!!! Keep the video's coming. Come to Pinehurst North Carolina and I'll caddie!!!
22 handicapper here (been playing since last summer and was 28 at start of year - perhaps what I’m about to say helped!). I started using castle tees - orange and red, like in the vid - out of necessity a few months ago as I needed tees and it was all they had in the club shop. I’d always tee’d up irons quite high, but the difference with driver was night and day. Immediately got much higher launch (I tend to hit quite a punchy driver) and, coupled with some improvements to my swing, I’m now MUCH straighter. That club has gone from being a liability to one of my strengths! Would always tee up irons from tee boxes as I struggled with consistent contact from the deck when I started - definitely works for me :-)
Hi,
I tried teeing up the irons, from a green to red castle tee. No fats/thins and ball flight was nice and high, so will probably do this in all future rounds. Although, watching the pga and in particular the par 3s. I don't see them teeing it up as high as red castle (this is from TV, so not 100% reliable)
Great video
For iron and hybrids I tee up 1/4 to 3/8’s of an inch, for driver 1 to 1 1/2 inches, woods close to 1/2 inch.
hi yeah i alwayse use high teas orange when driving but low straight plastick tees with irons
Gave it a go liam it didn't work for my driver but works great for my irons on par 3s pal 👍🏻
I use the orange castle tees sometimes they work but if I'm struggling off the tee I use pink castles golf is frustrating but ultimately down to the one thing the person holding the club and our swing can slightly be off one day and ok the next
Tip top tips video this Lad's! 😂 Gonna have to give this a go now, because I do tee the ball down low at the minute! 🤔
I tee up high, orange for driver blue for the rest. Works well.
Helps teeing the irons up higher if you're someone who struggles to take divots. Mentally i feel like i dont need to try help it up into the air as the tee has done the job. Interestingly i take divots off higher tees more than i do irons off the deck, just my swing faults!
What i would also say is you get 18 perfect lies in golf with your tee shot so worth experimenting !
I always tee up my irons and woods on the range. It promotes shallowing the club. If you are steep, you will thin a high tee iron shot.
I tee up my irons using a red (1.5cm) castle tee. And for driver/3 wood I use the orange (5cm) castle tee.
Orange castle for driver and I have been using the red castle for irons hitting the ball great
Never played with castle tees but mighg give it a try, interesting video
Hi Liam I tried a high tea for my driver but unfortunately all I got was a sky wood with some snow on the ball not for me I’m back onto the wooden teas more consistent out of the middle of the club 🥃🥃
Nice experiment Liam. BTW, that orange castle tee looked taller than Pete! 😂. I went from using pink castle tees to orange a couple of years ago and my drives are now longer. Generally for irons I use a green ‘T’, but will give the red ones a try. For my 4 wood I have been experimenting between red and green ‘T’s and have got more consistent results from the green ‘T’s. I did try the same test with my 7 wood, but it was hopeless off a red ‘T’
I think the T height also depends on whether or not you are a sweeper of the ball or not.
Excellent! I tee it up slightly lower then the pros.
I have always teed the ball this way (60 years or so). With irons it promotes a cleaner strike ( less ground interaction). With driver it promotes an upward strike which can lead to higher flight, less spin and more distance. As with anything new, you have to get used to it.
Having just had a spinal/ neck operation I will be playing my rounds up on tee's for a while more for the fact I'm pooping myself at the idea of hitting the ground. As it's just me & my mate the 5'ers will be a flying & I'm guessing his way. Keep em coming guy's
Well done liam 👏 😊
I’ve always used red tees for irons and woods. I went from pink up to orange when I needed a bit of help launching it with driver and now I’m back down to pink. I’ve only been playing for a few years, I’m off 19 👍🏻
great handicap that for a few years 🎉
I’ve always tee’d my Driver high, but never with an iron.
I’m giving the high iron tee a go on Sunday morning
Always use orange tees for my driving and a castle red/ blue tee for the par 3s
