    I feel like using the combined probability as the probability of Link succeeding is somewhat flawed.
    Like, not all of these probabilities failing would mean certain doom for the quest, like "there's a 90% chance Zelda headed to Eldin next" but there's not a 10% chance she disappeared, she's *somewhere*- there's, like, a .3% chance she's hiding in that bush over there
    Still, a great concept and a very good video

    Your math is fine, your logic isn't. When she says there's an 85% chance the key you need is in that particular chest, that doesn't mean there's a 15% chance you'll never find the key, just that it's elsewhere. The same applies to most of these.

      In Japan they have a tendency to believe percentages, and I've noticed media tend to use them very willy-nilly. Death Note, for example, has L use percentages constantly, even with things that he obviously should not be able to make a percentage out of - it's a shorthand way to make the (Japanese) viewer know that this person is supposed to be scarily, super humanly smart, in a way that your mortal brain can't comprehend.
      For us, however, we just end up thinking "What ass did they pull that percentage out of?!"

    These percents were mostly things that meant the story would have changed (She's not in this temple so you'll have to keep looking) but not have stopped him from succeeding (Yes, there are chances that would have prevented him from being able to win.).
    So, this theory should be about how unlikely it was that things happened as they did and include a % chance that the change would have been unwinnable.

    • @allen8655
      @allen8655 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I like shitty memes yeah but the thing is by the time she reincarnates and the hero reincarnates in the past Demise would have conquered ALL of hyrule and I’m pretty sure Demise isn’t dumb enough to let that happen and will try to stop link before he could get strong enough and if Demise doesn’t stop him the world is still full of much more powerful monsters basically making the regular world of monsters look like a joke and there’s still a chance Demise could of gotten the triforce from link but if he couldn’t then that would prob be the only way for link to have an actual chance at winning but due to many factors link prob couldn’t meet the requirements and if he did his chances would still be way less than before unless he changes his wish than idk. But still Good luck training a hero in a hellish world with nobody on your side besides maybe a few survivors. Not a high chance at all it’s basically like fighting an endless waves of monsters that are much stronger and with no ally’s cuz I’m pretty sure Demise would kill the dragons and everyone in his way unless he’s a huge retard.

    Great theory, finally someone talks about SS.
    Skyward sword is my favourite Zelda game. Yes, the motion controls did make the game more challenging, but that's the thing! I could beat the bosses in Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild without dying, but in Skyward sword I could raise sweat fighting a boss. I remember the first time fighting Ghirahim it took me like half an hour, because I had to actually do something. That and awesome story, characters, artstyle and music made the game unique for me.

    • @AnthonyDGreen
      @AnthonyDGreen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I really loved Skyward Sword and am looking forward to playing it again one day, hopefully in HD. I had *no* issues with the motion controls though obviously a startlingly high number of others did, including my own friends. I know some of them struggled with flying, I did not, generally speaking. I also have other friends, who like me, did not experience those issues. I simply have not been able to narrow down scientifically why some people are fine and some people aren't. Beyond the motion controls I *loved* the story the setting, though I did wish the surface had more inter-connectivity like Ocarina did (meaning 3-4 warp pipes) and more interaction (read: side-quests) with surface dwellers. I like the concept of Fi and her animations but 90% (no pun intended) of her dialog is useless. FWIW I didn't like TP much at all but I played it after SS so maybe "formula fatigue" set in later for me.
      Koloktos, Ghirahim, that pirate mini-boss on the Sand Ship, and even the Leviathan. Those were EPIC boss fights made better by me having to really swing the sword and block with my shield!

      Skyward Sword is simply my favorite Zelda game out there. The motion controls make you feel the action, quite literally! Sure, they aren't perfect, but 99% of the time it wasn't an issue. Here's the issue I have with this: not all of these percentages lead to a total failure. Percentages like if the water basin will work or not won't ruin Link's quest if they don't work out. If the basin doesn't work then he'll just have to do something else, the only thing wasted is time. There's not that big of a time crunch considering he can sleep for days and do sidequests with no consequences. I'd argue the battles are more important because if it doesn't work out, link dies and the world is lost

    I think what's much more fascinating and even terrifying is that, if Fi's calculations were correct, then there was a chance that the Sacred Flames and even the Triforce wouldn't be in their designated locations. All of these trials were specifically engineered by gods so that Link would be the only one who could complete them and there was still a chance that somewhere out there was a being who could just come along and swipe the god damn Triforce before Link even got there, something that not even Demise was capable of doing.

    Fi is my *favorite* character in Hyrule Warriors. I love the way she moves. Her graceful animations and art style are just enjoyable for me to watch. And I can see that Nintendo was going for a C-3PO like charm with all of her statistics but it was a gag that just never caught on for me. Every time she'd give some % in my mind I was eye rolling: "No, silly robot, it is **100%** likely that there's a boss behind this boss door because that's how games", "Of course it's **100%** likely that Zelda went through this door because that's why we're here". And unlike Navi/Tatl or the Hyrule Compendium I couldn't use Fi to give me info on the game world "What's that called? Where does it live and what does that eat?" and I almost never found dowsing to be necessary because I tend to explore areas pretty thoroughly on my own when eventually a character is like "We need a pinwheel" I was like "I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR, BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THAT WAS FOR HOURS!". Maybe it's endearing for newcomers to the series. I just feel like I'd have liked her more if she hadn't been so pretentious about the scientific precision of her otherwise reasonable statements.
    That said, it's awesome that you did all this work to conclude that all of her statements are meaningful, in that failure was almost certain for all but the First Hero, who was worthy of the complete Triforce! Maybe one day they'll release and update to the Hyrule Historia that explains that Fi simultaneously exists across multiple timelines and is actually predicting the probability that you're in the timeline where things work out. Really plays in well with Hylia's whole "...for I am the one guiding you from my place at the edge of time" shtick. It would be even better, though quite frustrating for most, if periodically the game just followed the negative case--1 out of every 20 playthroughs you get there and there's just no boss. In 1 in 7 encounters you get there and Zelda has already been captured and it's game over :)

    I actually took that percentage to mean something different, and what you said is a key thing to keep in mind. Link's chance of completing his quest is 5% or lower.. and yet he DID complete it. He overcame and conquered, and that's why he's Hylia's chosen champion.

  • @wolfproduction200
    @wolfproduction200 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The problem with this is that you assume the alternative of any of those events fails the quest. That is not the case for a lot of these percentages. For example, if those were not really the ship's masts, you could keep looking. Fi could probably calculate another percentage of finding them elsewhere. Also, some probabilities don't even affect what happens. For example, the probabilities of zelda being in a region or not didn't matter since he didn't find her in many of them anyway

    “Wouldn’t he just die after absorbing electricity into his sword?” Uh no, not necessarily... people get struck by lightning all the time and some may die, some may not die. Getting electrocuted isn’t a sure fire way to die.
    But are you questioning that strain of likelihood when you’re fighting someone who has fire for hair??? Out of all things improbable, you only picked out the loft wing part and not the one about Skyloft being a floating island behind a permanent layer of clouds???
    Getting struck by lightning and not dying is actually one of the more probable things in this game.

Maybe it was where it fell, with Fi waitin' ta be reunited with her master, Link. They could BOTH be snarky. He was the master who became her brave pal. And maybe the Master Sword was a friend to its masters 'cuz of Fi bein' their friend. She was like a genius with her guesses involvin' percentages. Well use THIS: Technically the Avengers had a 1 in 14,605,000 chance of beating Thanos, but because that very small chance of the future was known and set into motion, that small chance became definite. I feel like that is similar with Skyward Sword, especially since Hylia knew the future to an extent, knowing she had to be reborn later on as a mortal. Plus, Hylia created Fi.

    Once the result of one chance is determined, that probably changes to 100% or 0%. Also, in the game world, if something wasn't in a specific place, Link would just search elsewhere. The only way this calculation makes sense is if the probabilities are all calculated without knowledge of any of the results and, importantly, success of all the individual probabilities is the only route to completing Link's quest. Also, Fi would have to be good at calculating probabilities.
