    I bought my 2017 Sentra today during the eclipse!!! I went with the SR turbo premium package. I absolutely love the dark pearl blue color, and the Bose system sounds great. I also decided to get the manual transmission, which is very easy to learn by the way. (first time manual owner) Wish me luck guys, I felt like I just needed this in my life right now. lol No regrets so far...

    I love my 2016 Sentra SR, which is basically the same one as this, but except it as 130 hp, and it's good enough. I got the premium package with the keyless entry Bose sound system with 2 subwoofers,sunroof, leather interior etc, and for $30 000 with taxes and 0% financing, that's Canadian pricing it's a fantastic deal. No other car manufacturer offers that much for the money, Volkswagen not reliable and more expensive, Honda apparently is not as reliable as they used to, Ford way too expensive, GM I would never buy a car from them, Toyota, my aunt and grandma have one and Kia and Hyundai are crap, I say this cause I owned a Kia and Hyundai, sold them after owning them for just a year and a half. Lost a lot of money with the Kia and Hyundai. Almost 50% depreciation after only a year. Anyway buy what you like cause it's basically your money.

    Kyle, once again your reviews are SO thorough and professional. I have an '06 Nissan Sentra that I just hit 200k miles on and it still runs awesome. For a little 1.8L four banger it is very peppy. I had an '86 chevy cavalier with a 2.0L 4 for my first car when I was 16 and it was such a dog. They sure do make four cylinders much more powerful today! I love my sentra and have always wondered what it would be like with a turbo on it, and then I just came across this video and honestly this is the first I've heard of this new turbo-charged sentra. Keep up the great work sir! God bless!

    Not a bad car. I was reading a magazine issue(not sure if it was C&D or Motortrend), but they said the Sentra ranked lowest in the compact category. Interior space was good but everything else sucked. Ride quality, power, steering feel. Honestly I like the Sentra, pretty decent looking and this turbo version is a nice addition. If only it made more power.

  • @neuideas
    @neuideas 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This car is essentially two cars in one: 1,000-3,000 rpm, and 3,000-6000 rpm. It's not bad below 3,000 rpm, but it's hardly impressive. Above 3,000 rpm, the engine comes to life, after about 2 seconds (the reviewers universally praised this car for minimal turbo lag, but I can't say I agree). I test drove the manual. The shifter gates are pretty tight, so I found myself accidentally downshifting into second instead of upshifting into fourth. It's fairly easy to shift, once you get used to the tight gating, but the clutch pedal engages kind of high for a Nissan. I found myself overrevving it while I was trying to get used to it. The moonroof encroaches on headroom, so if you're above 6'2", you might be bumping your head from time to time.

      It's not really a new format, just something in addition to the typical reviews. I will never diverge from what I've always done, that's what makes me unique. For press events and certain cars where a FULL in depth video doesn't make sense, something like this is more quick hitting and covers the essentials. I basically took everything I'd normally talk about and made it into a conversation. Most of these events only allow you a few hours or so with the car, which makes it almost impossible to do my normal videos. This way, I can still bring cool content in a timely manner. Hope that makes sense.

  • @chrisdroste3296
    @chrisdroste3296 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    First I'd like to point out that the tuning to the CVT you're experiencing actually started around 06-ish; when auto manufacturers were attempting mass-adoption of CVTs (see ford, dodge, hyundai, etc) one of the biggest things that gave people pause and even drove them away from brands was not only the questionable early reliability, but the "motor boat" effect they produced from engines. For some reason Nissan seemed hell-bent on eliminating the Manual and multi-gear transmissions for their lineup, and worked a LOT on software to get rid of that effect. the results really proved themselves and in 07-08 the late 6th-gen maximas it really paid off, at least imo as it's about the only CVT-equipped car I'd spend more than 2 seconds looking at before dismissing...because i freaking hate CVTs.
    Second-off; Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and i think the current Sentras look excellent! Class leader imo is still the Golf and the Mazda3 Though (howabout we get a Sentra SR Turbo sport-hatch Nissan?!).
    spec-wise; I think mr +Philip Rosenthale is quite a bit off the mark Lambasting almost 190hp in this class. Most cars that compare are going to be in the 140-185hp; so really we're at the top of the range. I took a look at curb-weight and it's just a bit over 2900lbs...rather mid-pack, tbh. HOWEVER, that compares quite favorably to the Mazda3sTouring with the 2.5L Skyactiv @ 185hp; Dodge's 2.4L "Tigershark" motor in the Dart R/T @ 184?hp, and the "turbo" Jetta is in the 170s. The Civic Si is 201hp and has been getting fatter lately, the Golf GTI and Jetta GLI are both 200hp but i believe both are heavier cars, and cost more.
    This 1.6L DI Turbo should be the same one from the Juke and I thought that motor and manual trans was brilliant! If Nissan's suspension engineers play it right, the Senta SR Turbo could compare quite favorably against the big-engine'd Mazda and be right on the heels of a GTI for a lower price. THAT, i think, is something to be excited about.

    In Europe you cannot buy basic version of the car with automatic transmission and in America you cannot choose manual gearbox with basic version. What's more interesting manual gearbox is cheaper than automatic. That's funny.

    • @nicholas5129

      hell, some European brands like Renault and Citroen or even caddilac (american) and many others aren't sold a single bit, is it weird for you?

    This engine should be standard in all versions, the power it delivers matches to the competition, ej Mazda 3, and Corolla, and just a bit more with de Focus and Jetta. I would be really interesting it had an truly sport engine that reaches 230hp at least and also a rear multilink axle.

    COOL 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo (6-spd/X-Tronic) - Road Test & In Depth Review

  • @Trades46
    @Trades46 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Sorry but this generation Sentra is bit yawn inducing. The Corolla, Cruze, Elantra and the Civic looks much more modern in terms of design. Even moreso than the Elantra or Corolla this Sentra screams "RENTAL CAR!" every time I see one.
    The SR turbo is a nice addition & the tweaks does make it slightly more appealing. 188hp however is weak, considering the last generation Sentra SE-R with its 2.5 inline 4 made 200hp easily. I feel this engine spec addition was spurred by the Civic's 1.5 turbo than what Nissan actually wanted to do with this. It doesn't break new ground; it is more a 'me-too' feeling to it.
    Also I HATE this new steering wheel. The last one was ok, but the round bubbly design may have worked in the Versa or Cube, but looks really out of place in this car's interior. I rather take the old one which resembles the current Altima steering wheel.

    Looks like they put more features on the Sentra SR than they did on the Altima SR, like signal mirrors and LED headlights.

  • @mowcee1
    @mowcee1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    From what I recall... this isnt the 1st time Nissan turbochared a Sentra... in the mid to late 90s, they turbo'd a Sentra called the SE-R model which had the Sr20Det motor that had 200hp, an was front wheel drive.

  • @drewneubuhr2919
    @drewneubuhr2919 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Imo that least good Sentra was the B16 SER Spec V. The vanilla SER would be good to if it came in manual.

    I don't know if I missed it. Does this use regular gas or premium?

    • @5.7_TY
      @5.7_TY 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He didn't say but since it's a turbo it probably maximizes its power with premium

    • @GeneralShermanDidNothingWrong
      @GeneralShermanDidNothingWrong 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's not what octane does. Octane is mostly to prevent knocking and with a turbo the compression is much higher than an N/A motor and the higher octane prevents pre detonation

    • @5.7_TY
      @5.7_TY 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ryin Rumery I knew that. I do drive a turbocharged car. I just stated what you said in simple terms. Power is reduced to prevent detonation with 87 oct.

    • @SearchEast2069
      @SearchEast2069 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      with 10-1 compression ratio and a turbo you better use premium gas in this or else you'll get pre-detonation of the gas and a knock.
