Keep going you’ll easily get over 3 km with the stock setup. Don’t be a chicken. I was using a 5” quad with the HD V2 single antenna (foxeer stubby) and stock Goggles X unlocked. With the patch you should be get like 7km. I will test this shortly when it arrives.
@@Gowieee cheers mate thank for the comment. I'm currently looking at the true RC X2 patches for it. I will retest when I get them to show the difference.
@@stonesrcchannel that’ll be interesting for sure. We need more Goggle X content. I see Caddx have “solved” all issues in their most recent post. I wonder what that will look like.
You'll want patch antenna on your goggles on both two of the receive and the one antenna that gets retransmits from the vtx. Also make sure your vtx antenna have some height to them . Also, 1200 mw has always been rumored to be over powering the preamp. I want to say most people use 700mw
I have a couple of True RC X2 aerials coming I heard they go into the bottom connectors? I’m not sure regarding the retransmits though as to which one that is. I should use another patch antenna on this one to? Thanks for the help.
@@stonesrcchannel on the goggle x the transmit antenna is top left (on your head for reference). Both WS and DJI will ask to have packets retransmitted if the packet is lost or interrupted. If you only use an omni and are try to fly far your re-trasmit antenna will limit you if it needs to ask to rebroad cast packets. A patch that focus the signal will be helpful. Mad's vid explains some of this th-cam.com/video/8Wa_XjQBKqs/w-d-xo.html
I use the vrx receiver and the avatar pro dual antenna tx. I replaced the tx antennas with Hglrc hammers and the top 2 antennas on the vrx with the same 2 antennas and did 6km perfect video. I only turned around as I chickened out. Also I am using 700 mw power output and the stock patch antennas in the vrx.
Gday matey, ages since I watched one of your vids, but very timely. I've been going back and forth between the HDZero and Walksnail as I was about to embark on my own digital journey. I'd recently decided to go for walk snail and like you, I was wondering abou the range on fixed wing. Also like you, I'm disappointed with 1.6Km although I am looking forward to see how well the goggles X work in with my old analog gear so that I can keep using my old gear with the new for the long range flights. Up to now I've been working with an ancient analog box goggle so the digital goggles represent a major upgrade for me. I did see one guy with pretty decent range using some cheap home made (3D print) helicals. th-cam.com/video/CYphV5FPbYc/w-d-xo.html Thanks for this vid and the commentary of what you're trying to achieve, always appreciated.
Hi and thanks for the comment, I do hope once i upgrade the aerials it will improve considerably although i can't see it being as good as my 1.3g systems. I did originally buy the GoggleX for the analog and to keep the long range 1.3g setup, but now flying HD, i think all my planes will be eventually upgraded to HD.
@@stonesrcchannel Hmmm, I was going to purchase the exact same camera/VTX combo that you're using, but now I'll just get the goggles and wait for the new range to be released in a couple of months. It's supposed to have 4 times the range, but we are at the pre-product release hype stage so we'll see how that all goes when released. Thanks again, you really helped me with my purchase decision.
@@FixedWing Oh thats good to hear i haven't heard anything regarding range increase as yet so fingers crossed for that. I feel the walksnail system has heaps to improve i hope they keep going the way they have been so far although i it has been a shame they seemed to release the goggle x a bit soon which is why they have copped a bit of bad reports. In saying that i have had nothing to complain about i ungraded the heatsink and run the latest firmware and everything works well. Like i said in the video my only disappointment is the range but i'm sure that will improve as i upgrade the aerials and better products are released in the future.
By the way i have just tested a long range analog vtx from AKK Tech which was sent to me. Its the alpha 10 watt vtx and i just did a range test with that on stock aerials it reach 8.3km with no drop out, unreal vtx shame its not HD. I did a review on it a few videos ago.
@@nellodude I never really tested it fully but best I did was just over 10km out with good signal on both 1.3 vtx and 915 elrs. I did just recently do a range test using the 5.8ghz alpha 10 watt vtx which I can’t upload due to legalities. It went out to 10km with good signal no breakup with stock aerials. I did a review on it while back called Akk Alpha Series. It’s a beast but not very efficient
@@stonesrcchannel Ok thanks I just thought the area might be bad for RF I have a spot in Vic where I have been out 70km but another that I struggle to get past 15 km (on 1.3 ghz with high gain antennas) I have never been past 11 km on 5.8 ghz and I was wanting to get Walksnail as well but am disappointed in your distance. I would recommend the TrueRC x2 air for the goggles but I really think you would get better range using a ground station receiver higher up than using goggles with the TrueRC X-Ray antenna but it depends on what you consider long range. The best advice I can give is to launch from a slightly higher location (even 3 meters higher than surrounds) Good luck mate.

Loved the video! Just wanted to throw this out there (totally fine if it's not a good fit!), but I'm a video editor and I sometimes help creators improve distribution by making their content a bit more snackable for viewers. Think catchy intros and outros, or even some engaging short clips! Would love to chat if you're interested.
