I read somewhere that VC continued a lot longer than other brands (into 1960s?) to make only small batches of each design, varying dial / indices / hands / etc. - which kept it all feeling like each piece sold at a dealership was bespoke. The downside was that the great watches they made didn’t perhaps become obvious icons. It seems to me that VC have realised they have an awesome back catalogue and are now reaping some of the benefits from an incredible legacy of historic designs - the Cornes de vache, American 1921 are just two.
People complain when a watch is trading over retail but don't look at those who are selling at a discount, that's the true definition of hype in my opinion.
It’s not about the watch otherwise jlc and blancpain and Glashütte would be popular .. it’s about what is perceived as a status symbol … just like Mercedes not skoda or ap not Vacheron … people never buy things for their usefulness… unless it’s food or some tools to create status symbols … or you don’t get it you will be be forever calling things hype not mode. It’s trendy to have Hermes bag or Loro piano shoes …. Non of those prodoyxts cost anything but perceived value. So instead of teaching others trying to make us think that Vacheron is better than ap it’s you who should realize that the product is only as expensive as others see it

Vacheron owner here. I also have a Royal Oak chronograph and a Rolex Daytona Rainbow and a Day date. Here is my take. I despise videos like these. Why? Cause a true enthusiast just knows Vacheron is THE best brand out of the trinity and arguably the while watch world. The only brand that comes close to Vacheron in high horology is FP Journe. Someone who buys a Vacheron knows their shit and they dont seek peoples validations. This is why i love the brand so much.
In your opinion. Of course Rolex is inferior to all high horology brands because they’re not high horology…not even close really. But the “best watch brand in the world” is 100% subjective.

VC is my favorite brand. They hit a certain aesthetic that is difficult to describe. A rich, old world feel that is somehow...comfortable, connected to something grand and venerable.
The second generation Overseas is my pick. Grey or blue dial on the rubber. Even 3rd generation trades below retail. VC truly is the biggest hidden gem.
Thomas read my mind when he said VC needs to "produce a 222 in steel"! Also make it 39 or 40MM, and include the bracelet, leather strap, and rubber strap with the watch! I am ready to buy today. Also, thank you for making videos for the value collectors!

Tom, my vote would be for a VC Les Historiques Ultra-Fine 1955, the one with the cal.1003 movement reissued in 2015. Your site has them around the 15k to 18k price point. Two hands, no date, the epitome of understated luxury. If i owned one, 999 ppl wouldnt look twice and 1 in 1000 would become a friend.
I’m quite happy with Vacheron’s low profile, as it equates to rapidly falling prices on C24. For me, the Gen 2 Deep Streams and Dual Times are the best Overseas VC has ever made.
I was in the Vacheron Boutique in Madrid today. I'm seriously thinking about a 56, I know it's a compromise with the movement but my thinking is that Vacheron would not degrade their brand and they would make sure it's high grade. BTW, Madrid Vacheron Boutique, no snobbery, down to earth, professional. Much better than dealing with AP, Patek and those clowns at Rolex.
I have a fifty six. Was well aware of the criticisms around the movement when I bought it. Got it new, under retail. No regrets. It’s elegant and timeless.

I’ll be all in for a SS 222! Absolutely love VC.. I bought my 4500V ata discount right before the COVID madness then followed up with a 1921 after living with that piece. The overseas is my most worn watch in my collection to this day. I’ve don’t buy to resell so their hype is inconsequential in my purchase decision.
I have 2 Vascheron overseas watches - 47040, and the latest 4520v in black and blue dials. Love both.. the nice thing about VC overseas is the are designed well and are not scratch magnets like the AP royal oak, or the Cartier Santos which have a lot of hard edges. It took me a year to get the latest Overseas, and I feel lucky to get it. Bought it in Bangkok AD with the help from Terri the manager. I have never seen anyone wearing a VC in public, only on TH-cam. VC made 32,000 watches last year and not many overseas. I feel VC is very underrated and a great price compared to AP or Patek. The other low production watch on my menu would be a FP Journe, but FP IS no longer a sleeper and that is reflected in their price.
Just a little information. VC is definitely a well rooted historic brand. However the oldest Swiss brand would be Gallet, and still an independent family owned company, founded in 1455. Cheers, keep up the great videos!

I stated the same thing about Gallet, to my surprise I was replied to by Nicolas Hayek (Swatch CEO) stating I was absolutely correct. It's the only Swiss watch/clock company to be in continuous operation from 1455 until today. To boot it's still a independent family owned company. Check them out, they have made movements for everyone in Switzerland!

The Overseas Chronograph is a nice looking model except for its ludicrous thickness. Its movement could also do with an update in respect to its power reserve and possibly accuracy.
I was in the market for a Grailed one and done dress watch for under 10k. Looked at Patek, Breguet but ultimately went the VC route and got a 31150, best purchase!

Hype is in the post - 270th anniversary next year!! I’m a huge fan and have more complicated and more expensive watches but my 1921 is my favourite watch in my collection!!! Very much enjoyed this and feel a bit of hype and horology will bring the much deserving brand to the next level!!! 🙏👍
I really do have an appreciation and respect for VC and their offerings, however i truly believe what is holding VC back abit is that they are not independent. They are owned by Richemont unlike PP and AP, which are independent and not beholden to shareholders. That is the reason i believe you see a company like AP being experimental with items such as sand gold alloys.

A few years ago, I found a VC watch that fits my tastes exactly. Every so often they have something that is compelling. However, several years on, I realized their support is inadequate and I would be hard pressed to return to VC for another watch. E.g. I asked if VC would order me a strap in grey color for a watch bought in 2018. They told me it was not possible since my 2018 watch was "vintage" and this would limit me. Then they suggested I buy a new watch from their current catalog (exact same case and strap size). In addition, the replacement strap with a color I didn't want would take 6 months to deliver and cost 600 usd. It is a joke. If you want to buy a 36K watch that has no support after 4 years, VC is your brand.

I do not see the issue he is saying about VC. He said it himself, they make some of the worlds best watches, and they are "affordable" compared to PP and AP. Great for the collector in my mind, I dont care that other people are not as hyped about those watches. Hype is always short term, collecting is long term. Never collect hype watches.
You only ever buy from country auctions, and I've bought a couple unique pieces, one from the 50's and one from the 70's, for less than a Hamilton. You never, ever, absolutely ever buy from a seller in Italy on Chrono 24. Repeat, never buy a VC from anyone in Italy on Chrono 24. Yeah, that's my take. Oh, I've got a first gen VC - the best watch of it's class.

IMO VC are on the right path. Nothing drastic just continue to make classy high horology pieces. I would rather they continue to fly under the radar vs rappers and hype collectors wearing their designs.
Both VC and Breguet have great history (better than Paket) and high quality...but for some reason they have not caught the attention of snob buying public, and at this price category, name recognition is everything. Quality and history are secondary.
It actually appeals to me that these aren't hyped. It's 'quiet luxury' that's reserved for those lucky enough who truly know.

The Overseas Everest in the thumbnail is a gross baitclick!! It’s gone beyond MSRP due to its limited production so it’s not any cheaper than any popular AP or Patek watches! Y’all the switched to the models that are not apple to apple comparison; shame..

The biggest issue is the long name and if you try to shorten it like AP for Audemars Piguet you get something which sounds like a toilet…

I do not see the issue he is saying about VC. He said it himself, they make some of the worlds best watches, and they are "affordable" compared to PP and AP. Great for the collector in my mind, I dont care that other people are not as hyped about those watches. Hype is always short term, collecting is long term. Never collect hype watches.

You only ever buy from country auctions, and I've bought a couple unique pieces, one from the 50's and one from the 70's, for less than a Hamilton. You never, ever, absolutely ever buy from a seller in Italy on Chrono 24. Repeat, never buy a VC from anyone in Italy on Chrono 24. Yeah, that's my take. Oh, I've got a first gen VC - the best watch of it's class.
Please explain because you are not the first person putting out a warning about buying used watches from Italy. Just curious because I am heeding the warning.
Their watches are excellent in every way except one. I personally think if they completely got rid of that bezel, they would be more popular. I know, it's their signature. It just looks disjointed in my "who cares what I think" opinion.

Je possède une Vacheron Constantin Overseas, elle est superbe, mais je lui trouve deux défauts inacceptables pour une montre de cette qualité: pas de stop seconde pour un réglage précis de l’heure, et le changement de date ne se fait pas juste sur minuit mais progressivement sur les dix minutes précédentes. Dommage.

IMO VC are on the right path. Nothing drastic just continue to make classy high horology pieces. I would rather they continue to fly under the radar vs rappers and hype collectors wearing their designs.
Both VC and Breguet have great history (better than Paket) and high quality...but for some reason they have not caught the attention of snob buying public, and at this price category, name recognition is everything. Quality and history are secondary.
Why are you INFACTUATED with rebranding them ?
