How Edge and Matt were able have matches together without legitimately trying to kill each other in 2005 is beyond me.
They were both told if they try to legitimately hurt each other they both will be fired

Well, Matt was the one with the grievance and Edge was a fair bit bigger. So frankly, Matt knew that getting his ass-kicked by Edge wouldn't solve anything.
Yet a certain Elite group of wrestlers refused to work through their issues with a Chicago-Made superstar.
Mad respect to Matt Hardy for not only working with him but putting him over. I’d never be friends with anybody that did me like that
I felt like Matt enjoyed saying those things to Edge and Lita for what they did.

I think this is all fabricated to be honest. If there's one thing I've learned with Mick Foley is that the people involved with WWE are willing to go above and beyond any limit in terms of responsibility and common sense, and I refuse to believe that all the people involved decided to react in the most childish ways possible at the same time. Individual reactions seem very fake, and I doubt they wouldn't hate each other If this was real. Props to Mcmahon for setting this all up, another great saga by WWE, I just wish people were a little smarter and gave Lita a break considering how obvious the whole thing was.

Back in 2009-2010, I met Matt Hardy at the now defunct gold's gym in Puerto Rico. He was a very good-natured guy and even took a picture with me. Not many wrestlers are that approachable nowadays, especially during private time.

Given stories you hear about Vince, he probably saw Matt as a “wimp” for “letting it happen” or something.
Actually this was meant to propel Matt into the main event and make him a big deal...but his return promo kinda ruined it. He rambled on and on and said that he hoped that Edge would die in a car accident (which sure upset Vince). Sadly Matt would remain toiling in mid card for the next few years while Edge would go on to capture his first of many World Titles months later.

I remember loving Lita for YEARS before this all kicked off. Lost a lot of respect for her when this went down at the time but she will always be one of my faves. Just glad that they’ve all moved on and seem happy in life now 💛 Still get hyped when I hear Litas entrance music! 😅👊
I think the storyline was meant to teach Lita and Edge a lesson.
Exactly how I feel. I loved Lita down back then but when all this shit jumped off I looked at her differently than before. But I still love her as an adult.
I completely lost all respect for her. It was hard to separate her amazing in ring work from the drama. Edit: also I never liked 2 brothers turning against each other because of a woman.

This story line is what made Edge the “rated R superstar”
Edge is basically the only one who benefited from this. He became a legend while Lita was chastised into early retirement and Matt got sent to Smackdown and was buried in the midcard for the rest of his time in WWE.
In its own way, in 2005, I was Eighteen, this was just before Social Media became popular, this situation taught me never air your relationship drama on the internet, that's bad form, no matter who is innocent or not.
Ahh.. a classic. I was 10 years old when this storyline happened. I was shocked by it. And hates edge/lita afterwards. Classic. Wish they did more with Matt Hardy afterwards

In the end, everybody was wrong in their own ways. Edge and Lita for betraying Matt, Matt for airing the dirty laundry, and WWE for firing Matt while letting Edge and Lita off the hook. It happened, and it's in the past. The important thing is that they're all happy with where they are in their lives.

She was getting cheated on less than a year into a marriage with a man she loved dearly and was the only one who literally got nothing out of the ordeal. While Matt had a right to be upset and angry, putting all that drama out there - let alone making a video recreating how things unfolded with a cardboard cutout of Lita - was not that great of a thing to do. He was pretty much having a public meltdown when what he needed was to take a step back and heal, maybe with some therapy. Like the OP said though, its in the past.

Matt Hardy getting fired because of this was my first taste of being really PO'd at WWE, and led me to discovering online wrestling content which led me to discovering stuff like TNA, ROH, and Japanese Wrestling in general. I was just a teen at the time, but Matt Hardy was always one of my favorites. While I was disappointed with his decision to rejoin WWE, it was cool to see him possibly be in TNA or ROH at that time. Which we'd obviously get in plethora many years later. I was definitely full on Team Matt.
I was actually very torn about this story. Its the first real life thing that became a story that I ever knew (I learned more about the realness of Montreal shortly AFTER this, when Bret came back), and I had no idea who to root for.
I was completely on Matt's side in this. He got done wrong, in literally every aspect LOL both personally and professionally. How can someone take my girl brhind my back, and then not omly does the story get used for TV, but I'M the one who loses the resulting fued?? WTF 🤦🏾♂️🤣 it's not fair.
But I actually liked Edge's character more than Matt. E&C were my favorite of the 3 tag teams, and Edge became one of my favorite wrestlers ever when he started his Rated R Superstar branding. It was hard for me to root against him, even though I knew he was a heel. And in this case, actually WAS the bad guy LOL
I'm really glad they eventually got past all this and became friends again, cuz a girl isn't worth it. And also, as much as I love Edge, I'm glad he and Lita didn't stay together. It wouldn't have been right for his happily ever after to be his homie's ex 🤣
He did seem like a genuinely good-natured guy. Perhaps not the best wrestler though; And business owners are gonna side with the wrestler bringing better value to the business.
In my opinion, these "True Story of ..." videos are the best wrestling content on TH-cam.

I was there at that MSG show. We let Lita know our displeasure of what she did. No regrets there. Kayfabe is kayfabe but Matt did trust his Best friend and he got the short end of the stick. And thats putting it cleanly. Of course, time has passed and heals all wounds. Matts far happier than ever and has a ton of kids with Reby. So at least soem good came out of this.
18:37 I was there. It was so cool. We all thought Matt was back but it was cool getting to see Kane Tombstone the priest. We also had an Intercontinental and WWE Championship match that night. Cool night!

7:22 I'm not proud of this fact.. but around this time Lita did an autograph signing with the world of wheels in in my city. Hearing that Matt had said "ask her why the pictures are gone".. as a 13-14 year old, I had asked her. I was thinking it was either going to be storyline related or they were actually getting married or something..so when Lita replied with "it's personal between me and matt" I want to say she MAY have also included the name "adam" because I didn't know who Adam was..and her mood noticeably changed. And I was left more confused than I started..
One of those moments where you look back on and regret, though, I'm sure she may have forgotten, I feel bad I was oblivious and may have upset her.

I started watching WWE at this exact time, July 2005.
I feel so bad about how this affected Lita's career. She literally revolutionized female wrestling in the WWF/WWE with her unique high flying moves. The hurricanrana to this day is one of the best wrestling specials of all time! Black Widow before Scarlett Johansen played it for the MCU.
I’m from Western North Carolina and the Hardy’s are basically hometown heroes for me, considering Cameron is only a few hours away. Once I found out what Edge had done to Matt, completely soured me towards him. I felt so damn bad for Matt. I’m glad Edge was able to come back and have a couple more years but as far as a fan of Edge, I will never be again.
Its very understandable that Matt was hurt,upset and angry and it was very professional of him to put over the Edge and Lita act but he shouldnt have taken all that drama online. Honestly this is one of those situations that wouldnt fly by today

I dont remember much from that era,but that lita and edge segment. Where they put a bed in the middle of the ring was one of the wildest thing little me saw at the time 😂. What these pgs era kids will never see. I'm glad they was able to hash it out in the end. To some degree they were right about this storyline giving them heat. Just sucks it came about this way and not purely a performance. I know if I was matt I'd be struggling to hold together during them shoots.

Not 100% true story though. The true story is actually on TH-cam and Matt talks about it which isn't 100% this. The Edge and Lita relationship wasn't physical until her and Matt actually broke up. Edge had given her a kiss which she backed up knowing it was wrong but Edge kept texting her about how much he wanted to be with her. Unlike they showed on tv. The Triple H, Stephanie and Chyna real life situation was actually more like the fake one on tv used for the Matt/Edge/Lita one.

What I'm wondering is how everyone in the locker room was before and during this whole thing. Like, what did Christian and Jeff Hardy knew before the affair became public? They must have been at least mildly suspicious. Did they ever have a wrestler's court over this? Was the ostracized Edge forced to change outside the locker room like the Miz was at one point? So many people probably have intense stories over this.
This was the catalyst for me not watching wrestling anymore for around 13 years. Matt lost AND Edge became a main event shortly after. My young brain couldn’t get over that feeling it was objectively gross.

What I don't get is that this is a common thing in WWE, I mean, Triple H left Chyna for Stephanie, but no one booed them when it was all said and done, so why was LITA the only one punished for this ( it ended her career)
There just seems to be less coverage in general for Hunter’s affair. Being that it was Stephanie, it surely wasn’t going to be aired out. Though she was asked about it with Howard Stern.
While Chyna was already on the fritz with the company, rightfully trying to acquire equal pay. It was definitely one of the unsaid factors in her release.
I’ll always enjoy their character, but as for Hunter and Stephanie Levesque, they’re awful for how they mishandled the affair unlike Edge, Lita, and Matt.

The most amazing part of this is how everyone ended up married & happy with kids except Lita.

In hindsight this was a REALLY uncomfortable story. Both real and in storyline.
Sure it helped get Edge over and established Lita as one of the biggest heels in womens history, but yeah…….wow.

Pls before you judge Lita watch Lillian Garcia's interview with Lita Please!! The fact Lita takes full accountability instead of making excuses like lots of people do when they have affairs. She helped Matt keep his job after all of this. Her love for Matt was real apart from WWE they never much else in common.

I remember this like it was yesterday. At first i thought it was just a storyline like any other of couse and not to long afterwards i remember reading about it and couldn't believe that lita left Matt for Edge and with all the actual drama BS outside of the WWE.
Looking Back On This Story 18 Years Ago It Still Leaves A Bad Taste In My Mouth. And I Would've Pictured Amy And Matt Getting Back Together And Working It Out At The Time.
