The reason for some players just standing there when using their stratagems is cause on the PC the default buttons for em are their WASD which is also their movement keys. I’m loving solo so far but I can see how that won’t last long, it’s just not that type of game. I’d love to hop into a match with some randoms but on ps5 quick play hasn’t been working all day. Anyway thanks for the tips great vid !
A workaround i figured out: instead of doing quickplay, try going to a planet and joining a squad directly from the operation selection screen. It works more consistently.
Honestly playing solo will help you develop tactics and ways to make it work. I've completed multiple Challenging/Hard bug and robot missions solo ( obviously not all objectives) but it will carve you a path on how to play smart and tactically. Now do that with a full squad and you will basically be an elite team for democracy.
If you make another video add in the supply packs. Learned today that if you press 5 it full resupplies your ammo while wearing it. And also if someone calls down a normal resupply. If there’s some extra you can grab them and restock the backpack itself.
Get the guard dog rover as soon as you can, makes playing solo so much better even in multiplayer it's super useful, it kills most of the smaller enemies so you don't waste ammo on them and even with the big ones it helps alot, and grenade launcher is great too, makes medium and challenging missions not too bad for solo play
My fav gun for larger enemies is the autocannon rifle. It takes 2 bullets on a medium and a large automaton. The giant ones eat whole mags due to the target on the back tho.
8:46 on PC, the buttons to do the stratagems are the WASD keys by default, which are also the keys used to move, some PC players change the keybinds but not all of them do, that’s why some stay still while doing their stratagems
You can also use the touch pad on ps5 to scroll through the map so you can still run around while scanning the map, which actually feels surprisingly good considering the touch pad is usually a gimmick in most games.
The terminids are absolutely terrifying lol. I was struggling to find and open session and eventually found myself having to play solo for a good 2 days and in the process I learned how to figh chargers and spewers (one at a time..two at worst...3 just RUN)
Biggest thing that will come with more experience: watch your allies' strategum. There arent a huge amount of them and learning how to appropriately stagger them in a fight can make a huge difference.
I'm fairly new to this genre and came from playing Remnant 2. This game is beyond difficult when you are starting. Videos like this do help.I still don't know how to summon help, reinforce, or request more amo like other players do. I'll have to keep searching for help. Thank you
To the first tip: IF YOU DO JOIN A GROUP DO NOT RUN OFF ALONE and heres why: 1. You are increasing the difficulty for the map as it compensates for how many players are on field so while you could be a pro at evading, your team might not and you could be getting them killed 2. You not strategising with them could lead you to either piss them off or selfishly end the mission to early when they still have things they want to do. 3. You get more reward if you all make it out alive together and this is a game about team work as some side objectives requires 2 or more. 4. It makes you like an asshole and a try hard and may get yourself killed running to a unsuspecting friendly fire since you abandoned your post 5. You're not some main character to a story so please stop pulling off one man fights if you dont want to run a solo match
Solo is doable. You just gotta be very precise and know the mission. I can grind out medium and challenging, but you are right. It's faster to do higher difficulty missions with people
I’ve been running challenging on heeth solo with no hud and it’s been hella fun! Like you said, stay tactical, plan your attacks and exits and it makes for amazing gaming! I run the jet pack and hop around like some Boba Fett on a big hunt :)
For the last tip on PC you can bind the strategem inputs to your arrow keys instead of the default WASD inputs doing that can help move around and call in your strategems at the same time.
You don't have to stand still to call in stratagems on controller you just need to do a bit of controller gymnastics and use your right thumb on the left stick while you dial it in.
Sometimes you can find unexploded Hellbombs around the landscape. Those are still active, you can lure enemies or teammates to them and then shoot or drop artillery on them for a nice boom
Looking at the footage at 3:33, don't be that guy who starts the extraction when the rest of the team is halfway across the map. The rest of the team is likely to panic and start rushing to you possibly leading to deaths, making you lose out on the samples they were carrying. And then the extraction will still cancel itself at the end if not all players are near the beacon. And activating the beacon early will aggro enemies to it, making it a lot harder after restarting it as the enemies are already there from the previous attempt. If you're done with whatever you were off doing, then go and help the rest of the team instead of trying to force everyone to leave on your schedule. That's a dick move.
You can also use a smg and a ballistic shield at the same time since you can use a smg with one hand you don’t have to use a pistol when using the ballistic shield
As soon as you get to lvl 10 make sure your able to get the laser guard dog. It’s a godsend. I can focus on the bigger enemies while it keeps the smaller ones at bay.
Quick note about spawning ontop of high ground... the enemy can totally reach lol. It may take 5-10 minutes, but pretty soon there will be a massive spawning hoard of bugs making an ant stack on the backside of whatever cliff you're on and then surprise you when you think you've found the most hax spot. Ask me how I know lol
I can vouch on playing solo; I took a level 3 mission solo and it was a nightmare. I burned through all of my extra lives and the bugs just. kept. coming. Those Giant acid ticks were a real pain in the ass. I keep having to run around, spraying my gun at the bugs and reloading every chance I could get. It was the worst. EDIT: The worst part is I think I was soft-locked from everyone else so I couldn't get any help the whole time.
Pro tip you objective is the mission not killing them don't be afraid to just sprint past them and also the auto shotgun is by far the best primary I'm level 21 I have used most of them so far so I could be wrong but unlikely
@speeddemon7678 the machine gun us really good at killing the tick guys early on but I can't stress enough how amazing the auto shotgun is as a primary when you can unlock do that immediately but other than that I would say just learning the movement of the game like diving helps alot as when your laying down they sometimes miss your hit box also whenever you heal you will constantly heal until you hit full health so don't give up when being swarmed just use your stim then dive again I had to survive for 6 minutes because I was in a similiar issue where I couldn't call in the extract (when you4 mission timer hits 0 it auto calls in the extract ship) and I was on tier 8 for that mission the only reason I survived against probabanly like 50 enemies is diving off ledges and running around a very big rock but also remember you still win as long as you complete your objective extracting is just a bonus
Hi, I know that this video is pretty old, but the reason you can’t go foreword while calling in stratagems is probably Samsung magician. I updated it and now it works
Lol playing solo my 1 friend that has hd2 is away for a bit, but still solo bc past i checked quickplay dont work on ps5, so been solo just got to challenging lol staying at medium for now lol my first helldivers loving it but yes the grind is almost too too slow as a solo, cant wrap my head around that a game was designed around co-op and this wasnt a priority at launch, but game is good enough, i could wait a few days! Cheers ty for the hints!
FYI the enemy will climb up to you no matter where you are, if you respawn on top of a cliff they will start climbing up or fly up and they can absolutely get to you.
Solo, do it. run, Guard dog or Supply pack, chest that gives more grenades ( 6 total ) and grenade launcher.. do nests.. Stick to the main objectives. In total with loading screen its about 10 minutes. you get 1200 xp an hour. vs a 40 min run of 350ish xp... so its quicker to do solo for XP. If you want Samples, thats different.
EVEN LATER TIP: Stay together, but fan out in groups of two , one to take out the small guys covering the guy with the big guns (spear, railgun, rockets in general etc.) You need time to reload these weapons and the sooner you kill the small guys the sooner your big gun can take out the 5 chargers and 3 bile titans chasing you and the rest of the team. I can't stress this enough, get yourself a battle buddy and make sure one is crowd control and one is big boss monster hunter. Also it helps if you give team weapons (like spear, recoil-less rifle, auto-cannon etc) to someone with a supply pack (yellow squares) and have the team weapon ammo be held by the person not firing the thing for maximum efficiency. The reason for this is that once the person firing team weapon runs out of rounds mag dumping, if you need to reload (and you will), the person with the supply can just get the ammo by tapping E on you twice and then go right back to shooting (this is late game when you have so many heavy enemies you need to deal with them fast or you WILL DIE! TLDR: big gun can't kill if he is being swarmed, always have crowd control , rule being at least one , but best with two. And buddy system! ! !
Its random. As soon as I hopped on, 3 randoms were on my ship and we jumped into a match. Way more fun with others. But once they left, I never saw other players again. Matchmaking didn't work either
Solo is actually the fastest way to lv up. In 10 min I can get 200 xp vs 350 for 40 min with 4 people. Makes more sense for early play to get to the good perks
i think its harder for pc players to call in stuff because the default strat commands are bound to your movement keys. and i dont think alot of people rebind them to something else.
The movement issue when calling in stratagems is because of the key binds. For me at least I change the binds for the directions to be the arrows keys instead of wasd and that let me run around.
you should of mentioned the orange and blue crates underground that you can blow up the exposed doors off and get two heavy weapons, two currency items or a combination of both
A fix for not being able to move and call in strategems for pc players using a controller. Rebind the up stratagem arrow to left stick up then rebind move forward to left stick up and finally change the up stratagem to d pad up. Not sure why but it works for me now after doing that.
Played with a good group of randos last night. We all at the 120mm HE bombardment stratagem, and all 4 decided to throw it at a charger in a nest. We thought being 50m away from it was good... nope.. laughs ensued as both us and the charger in the middle was dealt with hahaha
bonus tip, check conditions and time of day/night before going into a match (C) on pc, and it will have buffs and debuffs sometimes, one of those being that your orbital barrages are more spread out, this can lead to unexpected team fire and also less effective strikes on enemies in the intended kill zone.
In this day and age and especially in the Helldiver universe you would think they invented such a thing as a small indicator HUD on the back of your gun to show ammo count...
So idk if they itended you to move at all, in the first helldivers you're locked in place while calling a strategem. I assumed it was the same for the sequel but idk
Limited uses just means you can only use them that many times back to back. Then you must wait for the bird to “restock” which is a longer wait. But you effectively have infinite of each stratagem. The whole “limit” thing is a tad misleading.
Basically all eagle strikes rely on the eagle ship to be on the battle field to shoot and the uses just means how much you got till you gotta rearm them which takes like 2m 30 seconds to rearm and all your eagle strikes are connected so if you have 2 different eagle strikes equipped and rearm even if you didn't use the second one they'll both have to rearm I know it's a lot of words but I figured I'd be descriptive in case someone was really curious
Oh and one more tip for the chargers and other large enemies, you can stick the orbital strikes to them if you land them on their back. This means as they move the round fired will follow however if they run at you the round from space will land behind so crash them into something
I honestly only have 2 gripes with this game and they aren't game breaking more so just a "why isn't this a thing its fuckin obvious" like why isn't the Break Action Shotgun a unlockable support drop and why the hell can't I unequip the cape. Other than those 2 things this game is very up my alley.
Playing with randos is half the fun, just spent 2 hours playing with one guy through an operation on challenging.
I just did challenging as well, it’s kind of a big jump from medium lol. Mad fun

THIS, i was bugged to have this on my back and not being able to resuply.
Probably X on PlayStation
It’s down D pad I believe to resupply yourself.
Great video! Lots of useful stuff in here :D /One of the Devs
Hey, thanks a lot!
Amazing game! Thanks for all your hard work, having a blast.
Thanks! :D Awesome, keep on spreading that managed democracy!@@Schwem
If you are on PS5, I know moving the mini map with the D pad can be annoying, use the touch pad to move it around 💪🏽
I'm gonna give you a thumbs up and sub just for the Obi-Wan reference 😂😂
Thank you
Hold down r1
To the first tip: IF YOU DO JOIN A GROUP DO NOT RUN OFF ALONE and heres why:
1. You are increasing the difficulty for the map as it compensates for how many players are on field so while you could be a pro at evading, your team might not and you could be getting them killed
2. You not strategising with them could lead you to either piss them off or selfishly end the mission to early when they still have things they want to do.
3. You get more reward if you all make it out alive together and this is a game about team work as some side objectives requires 2 or more.
4. It makes you like an asshole and a try hard and may get yourself killed running to a unsuspecting friendly fire since you abandoned your post
@@CarlWByrne I want to get better with the jetpack. I've been using the auto cannon and artillery strikes with a pretty speedy boi.
dont sleep on the support backpack its an animal for your heavy use@@sgtflamingo6532
Hmm I actually learned something 👍🏾. Didn't know holding x would drop a weapon. I've been trying to figure that out
For the last tip on PC you can bind the strategem inputs to your arrow keys instead of the default WASD inputs doing that can help move around and call in your strategems at the same time.
Some of us still can’t match make so when I friends aren’t online I have to play by myself it kinda sucks
Yeah they gotta fix that, playing on the harder difficulties by yourself is hard as hell 😂.
Impossible. Solo against a Swarm of Bile bugs was bullet sponge haven.
Turn off crossplay. I’m on pc, second I turned it off I haven’t had a single issue since joining people.
Same bro out here solo cuz failed to connect
You can change the mini map setting to be able to run in any direction while bringing it up. Turn it to standard.
8:43 Keyboard users can change it from wasd to the arrow buttons, so you can keep running forward.
You don't have to stand still to call in stratagems on controller you just need to do a bit of controller gymnastics and use your right thumb on the left stick while you dial it in.
9:28 how do we do this on PS5? Our left thumb is too busy calling in strategems on the d-pad & holding L1 with our left finger.
Sometimes you can find unexploded Hellbombs around the landscape. Those are still active, you can lure enemies or teammates to them and then shoot or drop artillery on them for a nice boom
Thought that was the Mandalorian for a second. Definitely gonna check this out.
For the pc players: running while inputting stratagems, try rebinding WASD keys to left right up down arrows instead
The first game prevented you from moving while calling support
That's a dick move.
i'm sorry i did this to you, i had a job interview i had to get to and i was being selfish for once ever in my gaming career lol.
The most useful video about Helldivers on YT!
Thanks for watching
About the last tip, as far as I know you can't move while doing stats on pc cause it uses your movement keys
You can rebind those keys, which will enable you to move and enter the codes. The key binds are named “menu up/down/left/right” in the menus
Ship container things in the outpost stations, throw grenade at it, there are medals and etc in there
Haha yeah I have been swiveling the camera and running sideways to call in strategums. I think that tip is hella useful.
You can also use a smg and a ballistic shield at the same time since you can use a smg with one hand you don’t have to use a pistol when using the ballistic shield
“Gonna be fighting a lot of bugs today so I’d better tie my woobie around my neck in case the enemy wants to drag me down with it.”
what
Can i just say I love how some bugs will keep moving even after you kill the. The detail of that is amazing because of the nerve system of insects
Do you have to hit the ships thruster with a anti tank in order to blow it up?
@@ace3154 The problem was they were surrounding the extraction point and I couldn't get enough time to start it up.
@@ace3154auto shotgun being the first shotgun you can buy?
@porkerpete7722 I beleive it is I think it's called the breaker
Hi, I know that this video is pretty old, but the reason you can’t go foreword while calling in stratagems is probably Samsung magician. I updated it and now it works
Lol playing solo my 1 friend that has hd2 is away for a bit, but still solo bc past i checked quickplay dont work on ps5, so been solo just got to challenging lol staying at medium for now lol my first helldivers loving it but yes the grind is almost too too slow as a solo, cant wrap my head around that a game was designed around co-op and this wasnt a priority at launch, but game is good enough, i could wait a few days! Cheers ty for the hints!
the last tip is play the first Helldivers and have your mind blown were this game came from. it has a very special place in my heart.
FYI the enemy will climb up to you no matter where you are, if you respawn on top of a cliff they will start climbing up or fly up and they can absolutely get to you.
You’ll also be a sitting duck against a lot of the robots since they’ll just shoot you from a distance
Nah, bugs can’t climb where you can’t climb normal. Only fly to you. But where is a lotta bugs that can kill you from distance
Early tip : Explore, when I play with people I let them do the objective and go elsewhere.
Later tip : Stay together.
Yeaaaaaaah 😅
EVEN LATER TIP:
Stay together, but fan out in groups of two , one to take out the small guys covering the guy with the big guns (spear, railgun, rockets in general etc.) You need time to reload these weapons and the sooner you kill the small guys the sooner your big gun can take out the 5 chargers and 3 bile titans chasing you and the rest of the team.
Very useful! Thank you.
Got any tips for matchmaking? Cuz I'm either doing it wrong or it just doesn't work ..I'm on PS5
You can only matchmake with friends right now, im on ps5 if you want to matchmake
@@abw1317 for sure ..I just don't wanna put my put my tag on here I have enough spam as it is lol
Turn off cross play keep spamming quick play and reset game bud.
Its random. As soon as I hopped on, 3 randoms were on my ship and we jumped into a match. Way more fun with others. But once they left, I never saw other players again.
Matchmaking didn't work either
Tips for matchmaking: patch is ready but need to be pushed to PSN. Already had been released on PC.
Solo is actually the fastest way to lv up. In 10 min I can get 200 xp vs 350 for 40 min with 4 people. Makes more sense for early play to get to the good perks
Recommend changing the Strategem button as R1 as it’s much easier to input those codes instead of L1.
i think its harder for pc players to call in stuff because the default strat commands are bound to your movement keys. and i dont think alot of people rebind them to something else.
"It worked for obi won kenobi and it'll work for you" best high ground quote I've heard all day
The movement issue when calling in stratagems is because of the key binds. For me at least I change the binds for the directions to be the arrows keys instead of wasd and that let me run around.
I've been playing with randoms and it's been so much fun, i cant help but laughing when i get randomly exploded (no joke its funny as heck)
Good tips, thanks bro 🤙🏽
How do you blow up buildings in this game. What weapon or stratagem should i equip.
Thanks for the Tips, very helpful.
How do i get that gold uniform , & I've seen different helmets like Greek helmet from other player too ?
On key bord change the key bindes for the strats to the arrows. So you can walk free and us strats at the same time no bug
On pc the arrows to call stratagems in are the walking keys lol
You can run and walk while calling in stratagem you just need to rebound WASD to arrow keys
you should of mentioned the orange and blue crates underground that you can blow up the exposed doors off and get two heavy weapons, two currency items or a combination of both
A fix for not being able to move and call in strategems for pc players using a controller.
Rebind the up stratagem arrow to left stick up then rebind move forward to left stick up and finally change the up stratagem to d pad up.
Not sure why but it works for me now after doing that.
im lvl 16 really wish i saw this vid earlier, good stuff
you can carry heavy objects like the artillery shells faster by spamming drop / pick up while sprinting.
we call that dribbling, like a basketball, because.....that is what it looks like.
The mechine guns base rpm is the middle one so you get to raise or lower rpm
Well either this was 9:45 of useless information that everyone should know by now… or I’ve been playing too much Helldivers…
Finally! I know how to drop stuff
In this day and age and especially in the Helldiver universe you would think they invented such a thing as a small indicator HUD on the back of your gun to show ammo count...
Democracy is never out of ammo
Thank you citizen
So idk if they itended you to move at all, in the first helldivers you're locked in place while calling a strategem. I assumed it was the same for the sequel but idk
I learned something.
I pressed the like button 👍
Smashing like button for FRIIIIIDOOOOM
i have a question about hangar stratagems, they have limited uses but are there any way to restock them in-game? increase the times they can be used?
Limited uses just means you can only use them that many times back to back. Then you must wait for the bird to “restock” which is a longer wait. But you effectively have infinite of each stratagem.
The whole “limit” thing is a tad misleading.
@@Michael_MW Thank you i was so hesitant to buy those stratagems because of the word "limited"
Is there a way to find specific enemies? Have one asking me to kill bile spewers been playing for hours and only ever found 7/8
Oh and one more tip for the chargers and other large enemies, you can stick the orbital strikes to them if you land them on their back. This means as they move the round fired will follow however if they run at you the round from space will land behind so crash them into something
If you see the radar side mission, DO IT!
Additionally, you can swap the direction your looking over your shoulder in 3rd person. ❤
I noticed a timer up in the corner when you was talking about exploring..🤔.. I take it I need to move fast when doing so.
How do you run and call in Strategems on console?
I did not understand the last one, how can you run back and call for stratagem if there could be a buten saying press down ?
Thank you I didn't know how to drop item
I haven't played a multiplayer as much as this one in over 10 years. Damn this is addicting at least until ff7r comes out 😢
No point in killing the dropships because the occupants often survive. And you've wasted a shot that could kill an armored unit.
If Owen Wilson played games instead of acting 😂. Great tips!
What upgrade allows you to carry 6 grenades?
It’s an armor. The ce-35 trench engineer armor from the mobilize war bound gives it to you.
@@moowaffels Thank you! Found it.
