My favorite part of this is that it isn't crazy where the robots hate humans and killed them off, but instead think of them as their ancestors and miss them so much that they imitated their actions and how they behave.
I love the actions built into this game that serve no function except to amuse cat owners, like being able to scratch things, being able to meow, knocking off the paint cans

Probably because it's not that long or intensive a game, so most people just played the whole thing within that week. After that, people still played it, but the hype was kind of over by then so it wasn't really talked about anymore. I played it last week. Still fun

Stray actually did get a lot of awards and nominations, so I wouldn't say you didn't hear of it anymore. It's more like there weren't a lot of gameplays publicly because the game's not that long, so you couldn't really make it a long play series. Still, it doesn't mean that people weren't playing it a lot privately, if you know what I mean.
I like to think that Sean is actually the cat's thought process, so when he says stuff like "get off me, ya freaks" or "God, I'm smart" it's the cat's inner monologue.

Fun Fact: When developing this game, they would put motion capture suits on cats, let them do their cat thing, and record their movements to use in the game. I thought that was pretty cool that they use that much attention to details😁
What I find interesting about cats is that I've heard that they would naturally only meow in their kitten stage to alert their mom, but over the centuries cats have learned to meow to us humans since they've learned that this gains our attention, even though they are adults or elders.
I also heard they modulate their meowing to try to find what will get your attention the fastest, and what the cats find is that a cry similar to a human baby gets peoples' attention VERY quickly. So, if your cats' yowls seem perfectly targeted to get your attention and keep you from paying attention to anything else, well they are.
Also, adult cats mainly meow at humans, seldom to other cats, and another intriguing notion is that cats create a "special and unique cat language specific to their pet human."
If you've ever had cats that live outside, their meow dies over time because they don't really use it when they hunt. My parents' farm kitties for example, they don't meow very loud and it sounds more rigid as though they never use it. They're always able to hunt on their own by killing barn mice and don't really need humans. They only use it when they say hi to us. My cats at home however are pretty vocal and I think it's because in a way, they still live as though they're kittens because I am their mother and they depend on me to get them food vs my parents' farm cats who hunt and do their own thing most of the time. My girl kitty Evie meows very loudly and high pitched like a kitten compared to her brother who has more of an adult developed meow in a lower tone.
“It made my eyes all blurry” I feel like this is another attention to detail because outside cats tend to be farsighted, so anything up close becomes blurry
Not true, cats see pretty well even close distances, too close tho and it becomes blurry but that pretty much happens to every forward facing species sight.
I can sit through horror movies, watching humans get murdered, no problem. But if a cat or dog gets killed, the killer is absolutely reprehensible. No redemption is possible. (Referring to media, not irl obviously)

Try it with a cat being well into its adult years. We did it the gray tabby that owned us was 3 or 4 years old, I think. She would flop to her side and act like her legs were broken. Funny as hell to us humans but to her royal highness, she was plotting our demise.

Round of applause to everyone who worked on this game. Especially the scenery- it’s so beautiful. The dead city just blown me away, I love the si-fi in this.

Fun fact: Cats domesticated themselves, unlike dogs which we chose to domesticate. Cats basically did what they always do and decided "I live here now, you will tolerate or love me" and we just let them since they were great vermin control. And here my eldest cat 20+ demands I sherpa her everywhere
Actually wolves also domesticated themselves. They got near our settlements because of the food we trew out and tolerated us more and more. That toleration is something we still see today, they take a lot from us!

52:33 the cats vision gets blurry because cats actually can’t see things up close super well. Because their eyes are so large, it’s hard for them to focus on things up close like that. So that’s super cool that the game went that far into the characteristics and functions of cats.

It always cracks me up how people are like “ew, cats” and then they get a cat and fall in love with them. If you give a cat a lot of attention and love, especially when they’re little, they grow up to be very affectionate and sweet.
I'm glad Sean was as properly distraught as I was playing when the cat fell and was hurt. I think all of us can collectively agree that if anything happens to this cat we will lose our shit.
The bond between these developers, Jack, and all of us is delightful. I love how frequently there were opportunities for all those little responses (oh, big stretch etc) and all the small mannerisms that really sell the cat as a Cat.
It never occurred to me just how much like cats we gamers play games. We snoop into every little thing, let our curiosity get the better of us and explore and mess around with things like knocking things off surfaces or destroying things because we can. This game is the true embodiment of a video game.

I'm fairly certain the group of cats are littermates. Basically what it sounds like; siblings from the same litter. They play and bond just like the ones you get separated from, which is why it can be beneficial to adopt a pair from the same litter so they always have each other in a new place. However the same can be said if they get separated and isolated; they get sad and lonely (hence why owners need to give them extra attention to fix that). So the goal to get the kitty back with his/her pals makes sense, as a littermate will likely go out of their way to get reunited if they are bonded well enough.

As a student studying animation and game design, its so cool seeing games like these and seeing what’s possible. It’s also so incredible hearing jack compliment the designers so much. Makes me so excited for the future :)

Try it with a cat being well into its adult years. We did it the gray tabby that owned us was 3 or 4 years old, I think. She would flop to her side and act like her legs were broken. Funny as hell to us humans but to her royal highness, she was plotting our demise.

Okay but seriously- the attention to detail throughout this entire game is phenomenal. To think technology has gotten this advanced that I forgot this was just a video game for a second- thats crazy. Round of applause to everyone who worked on this game. Especially the scenery- it’s so beautiful. The dead city just blown me away, I love the si-fi in this.
What's incredible is that this game doesn't even use RTX, so when more games like this begin to use ray-tracing things will look even better!

Fun fact: Cats domesticated themselves, unlike dogs which we chose to domesticate. Cats basically did what they always do and decided "I live here now, you will tolerate or love me" and we just let them since they were great vermin control. And here my eldest cat 20+ demands I sherpa her everywhere
Actually wolves also domesticated themselves. They got near our settlements because of the food we trew out and tolerated us more and more. That toleration is something we still see today, they take a lot from us!

Graphics, sound effects, and details are amazing and unlike most games when walking through grass you just go straight through it but in this game it actually makes the surroundings (like the grass) move asside

I'm fairly certain the group of cats are littermates. Basically what it sounds like; siblings from the same litter. They play and bond just like the ones you get separated from, which is why it can be beneficial to adopt a pair from the same litter so they always have each other in a new place. However the same can be said if they get separated and isolated; they get sad and lonely (hence why owners need to give them extra attention to fix that). So the goal to get the kitty back with his/her pals makes sense, as a littermate will likely go out of their way to get reunited if they are bonded well enough.
When you got the bag on your head and the controls were reversed and you actually felt annoyed that was pure video game magic.
