CAREERS IN MBBS.
A patient, a disease its cure and everything about it is what a doctor deals with. MBBS (Medicinae Baccalaureus and Bachelor of Surgery), in common language, its known as bachelor in Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and is handed over to a medical practitioners upon graduation from a university. A person willing to work and make a career in medical line has to do this degree as his graduation. MBBS also abbreviated as MBChB, MB BChir (Cantab), MB BS, BM BCh (Oxon), MB ChB, BM BS, MB BCh, BM, BMedetc.) is the first two graduation degree provided by various colleges following UK tradition in all around the world.
MBBS is a integrated course as the name suggest, they are two different course but are practiced as single and are also awarded together after its completion offered by many colleges or universities for 4.5 years with a compulsory internship as a practitioner of 1yr in any hospital or doctor. A MBBS degree holder can not only set out to be a medical practitioner but he has various fields to try in. Salary is never a bound for medical degree holder. Around 5.5 Years study makes him good enough to handle the various patients around.
One can go for specialization after his MBBS. Other than practicing in his clinic one can go for post graduate courses for specialization. One can go for:
• MD - Post graduate Medical degree ( Doctor of medicine)
• MS - Post graduate Surgical degree (Masters in surgery)
• DM - Super speciality degree ( Doctor of medicine)
• MCh - Super speciality degree ( Master of Chirurgical)
A post graduate degree helps to make more bright career in the medical field. Other than this one can go for various degrees like DNB (Diploma of National Board) course offered by the National board of Examinations, and recognized by the MCI or Combined Medical Services(CMS) for going into government institutions like Railways, Municipal Corporations as Medical Officers.
A medical degree holder has many an options to work in this field. He can opt for opening up his own clinic and practice in his clinic or join as practitioner with a some good reputed hospital in the city.One can also go for Phd programs in this field. Some research areas like :
• Molecular biology
• Genetics
• Microbiology and immunology
• Biotechnology
• All para clinical subjects like anatomy, physiology, pathology
• Pharmacology related areas
• Geriatrics etc
Are various important fields on which research can be done and name can be established in this field
Institutes like AIIMS, PGI, NIMHANS, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai (TIFR) provide opportunity to do PHd research. Other than this one can administrate any hospital or medical institute by doing a 3yr post graduate degree in Masters in Health Administration (MHA). One with the interest in making machines or equipments or deal with Bioinformatics, medical biotechnology, healthcare imaging can combine engineering and medical together in M.Tech in Biomedical Engineering and Biological Sciences or Masters in Medical Science and Technology (MMST) for medical use.
• Not only in Bangladesh this degree is provided various famous colleges and universities in abroad too. Many famous universities like are National institute of health (NIH), Virginia university, Michigan university, Drexel university, University of south florida, North carolina state university in abroad provide with degree. In Bangladesh, Medical colleges all around the area provide with the MBBS and Post graduate degree.
