No one seems to want to talk about the elephant in the room which IS the five speed transmission and all the failures occurring across this and the new grom line. What is going on with all the transmission failures? Why is Honda not addressing the unseated bearing issues and scored shafts? Why is this not a major subject being addressed. For the amount of money these cost you would think this would be on the forefront of issues to resolve OR, is it just a select group of owners who did a poor job of breaking them in and abused them prior to finishing a proper break in. Can’t seem to get an answer either way. Really want to add the new version to my garage but I’m not going to spend 5k on something that’s going to fail in the transmission. That’s a major deal breaker.

I just picked one of the Honda monkey 2022 models up the thing is freaking awesome straight from the dealership they can't keep these things in stock the minute they come off the truck they're gone I got lucky one was just coming off the truck.
I am buying a Monkey this week. I’ve been reading many of the channels dedicated to the Honda Monkey. I’m 60 yrs old. I though about doing some performance mods i.e., yoshimura exhaust, chimera air intake … But then I saw that you have to reprogram the computer or chips on the monkey to adjust for the modifications. Then one TH-camr said the reprogramming wasn’t working and he had to go back to the original exhaust and air intake. Question: should I leave it alone? Just as the manufacturer intended ? JC
Sorry for the delayed reply bud, it's becoming more and more difficult keeping up with all of them. If you just do an exhaust, you're fine but once you start adding more air in the mix with an intake I would definitely lean towards having it tuned properly and on the upside, you get to take advantage of those performance mods and really see a nice bump in how she feels when compared to just slapping them on. There are quite a few routes you can go but the easiest is to have the ECU flashed by a reputable company like DHM or CJR. With CJR on the 2022 Monkey you'll need to also get a Dynojet PV3 which does add to the price tag and complexity of it all but with DHM you can just mail in your ECU and then in a couple days you'll have it back at your doorstep so all you have to do is plug it in and you're good to go. I have personal experiences with both companies and can not rep them both enough. On your question as to whether or not you should leave it alone... You're asking the wrong person as I love to modify things lol if you check out my personal 2022 Grom videos but it all depends on what you want. I find that modifying them makes it more fun at the end of the day and with just an intake, exhaust and a tune you won't be shortening its lifespan really so I'd hop on doing those upgrades and enjoy not only the extra horsepower but the noise you'll make too haha ;) Edit, forgot to include links: - www.dhmotoring.com/collections/2022-engine-performance/products/jc92flash - www.cameronjonesracing.com/honda-monkey-2nd-gen-5spd
I like the 5 speed tranny, I also like the new bore/stroke figures, that along with higher compression should give it more usable power in the midrange, nice changes for sure!! I really miss my red Monkey that I bought from you, that black looks pretty sharp, tempting... Great work Kevin! Oh, I just noticed, we still didn't get the euro tail light:(
Definitely, those tweaks helped out a good bit on making it feel quicker even though the hp/tq numbers on paper weren't really increased. Be careful if you go check one out in person, I know how dangerous you are in a Honda shop lol ;) . I know man, it's crazy that we still don't get the euro tail light due to whatever weird reasons our government has on thinking it's too small etc. Once you see how it looks with that, the Grom light looks so out of place back there. If I snatch one up, that's one of the first things I'm doing is figuring out a way to throw that puppy on there! Thank you, really appreciate the support and kind words bud...
Same here man, loving the blacked-out scheme on this! That reminds me, I need to shoot you this blacked out 22' Grom I stumbled across that looks killer.
Excellent video! I bet it is a lot fun, I got the Super Cub in March and love it. Maybe down the road I might purchase this fun to ride miniMoto, as well. Good stuff Kevin!
Thanks Gus! I'm trying to step up the quality from where we were earlier this year so it's definitely a lot more time consuming, so the kind words are greatly appreciated... Heck yeah, I love the Super Cub! If I hit the lotto, I'd love to have one of all four in the garage as they all have their own cool little features and ride completely different from each other too. Just noticed you've got a channel as well, I've got to head over there and check some of the action out! Thank you again for the support and kind words, I really appreciate it bud!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you say Hooligan?? LOL!! Im likin the Monkey over the Grom and think this summer, a Monkey will be added. Who doesnt need 3 or 4 motorcycles. Excellent video as usual, thank you for helping!!! Very much appreciated Man! ✌
lol yeah buddy, Rodney Sargent is on another level of hooliganism! The only thing I don't like on the Monkey over the Grom is that the painted pieces are a LOT more expensive and if you're acting dumb like we usually do, it's bound to get thrown down a time or two and last time I checked - for the cost of the fuel tank on the Monkey you could buy all of the painted plastics on the Grom two times over lol. I still want one though, heck I want one of all the mini bikes lol as like you said, who doesn't need multiple bikes! I sold all of mine at the beginning of this year after losing my job this year so I'm looking forward to the day of being able to add some more back to the stable. Thank you... I've been trying to step the quality up from where we started earlier this year so I really appreciate the kind words bud ;)
Thank you sir, for your clear and precise information. I see I need to wait for a new one 2022. I am finding used but, these things hold value like crazy over other bikes I notice. The 32 tip sprocket change I hear is a have to mod if you want to go up a lose dirt hills. Since I really don't want to change anything that drastic, I better wait for the 32 tip. Are you sure about the oil filter? I thought they still have the old crank shaft oil slingers? The ring is cosmetic? ....that's great if you're right. I should PDF a manual since I know for sure I'm getting one. The black is beautiful, thanks again for the review
Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it bud! Oh yeah, I'd definitely hold out and wait to snatch up a 2022 as like you said, they're holding their value like crazy so you're really not saving much $$ by going with one of the previous gen models. Yessir, I'm 110% certain on the oil filter addition for 2022 ;)
@@HondaProKevin Thanks Kevin! I picked one up one the 13th Lol Hope that brings me luck because I'm really green as far as riding. It's a great place to visit, definitely a lot of things to do and see around town. Plus we have some of the best motorcycle roads around thanks to all of the mountains around us! Best of luck on your new motorcycle hunt, these Monkeys are quite the cool toy to have ;)
lol right! It's crazy to think how much those things are worth these days and how they were treated back in the day but heck, you never know. If only we had a crystal ball lol!
@@HondaProKevin Ya I'm originally from Wisconsin. We got the minitrail I was 10 ,we would throw it in the trunk of a 68 Chev and take it further north to Aunts and uncles at two properties there. Like I say two mature adults would hop on the thing in sand. Poor Honda
I like the idea of a small bike like this, but i'm #300+. Realisticly what kind of top speed could I look for in a bike this size? Should I look for something bigger?
I'm 212lbs and can hit about 55mph on my Monkey, going downhill. A newer Grom I tested went slightly higher to 63mph. If you're looking at any of the current Chinese 125s, they all top out at around 50-55mph. 125cc bikes are not meant for interstate driving, but they handle cities and highways just fine.
I got a 21’ pearl red , it’s totally modded out now, still need front fork upgrade because the suspension is trash, it’s got seat height for an adults and suspension for a 5 year old???
At first I was like huh... I see a Monkey lol! Then it hit me, you're thinking of the little second long preview clip TH-cam sometimes shows you after the initial thumbnail is seen. I wish we could pick what short little animation is shown there but sadly TH-cam picks it by default and for some reason it did it for the two-second section where I mention the Super Cub. Appreciate you mentioning it though as sometimes things slip by me and you guys help keep me on my toes so thank you ;)
@@HondaProKevin My fat butt on one of these would look ridiculous, but I'm losing weight and if I can get to where I wouldn't look like a tomato on a hot wheel, I may just have to get one. 😂
Hi Kevin, great video thank you... We,re still waiting on CT 125 Trail 2022 .. Any news on the Honda T rail on your end of the grapeline ? Also, the C C 125 Cross Cubs would be our 1ST choice Honda,s mini moto,s ..Do you think they will be available in U S of A ? The CC 125 would be a good seller, drop "old super cub" line time to let it pass away ! T U again Kevin.
Thanks for the kind words Rodney, I really appreciate it! I can't speak on the 2022 CT125 just yet but I'll be able to spill the beans very soon. A lot of things coming down the pipeline have been pushed back due to all of this rona mess sadly. I'd love to see the Cross Cub make its way over here as well but I just don't think we'll see it happening anytime in the foreseeable future. Of course, nothing is impossible but I don't believe we'll see it in the next couple to few years for sure. As long as these continue to be hot sellers here in the states though, American Honda will continue to bring them over and I'm all for them expanding the segment but we've got to have people lining up to buy them as their profit margins are laughable for dealers. We're weeks instead of months away from the next announcements though so I'll be able to share more info soon bud ;)
:( I thought this thing was kick start. My buddy growing up had a Honda mini bike and it looked just like the monkey but was kick start. I loooved that thing.
I wish I could say something but I can't. I'm a little gun shy on speaking out about anything coming out of the Honda of South Carolina Manufacturing plant after I received a letter from their attorney a little while back on information I shared. We're close to the announcement date though as long as there aren't any delays. I'm sorry, wish I could say more... Usually I can mask what I say behind select wording but they don't play around and I don't want to ruffle anymore feathers than I already have if you catch my drift ;)
Anyone can ride, it's not difficult at all ;) Check out your local MSF course and sign up, you can ride their bikes so you don't drop yours and once you're done with the couple day course you'll be all set to ride one of the Monkeys!
Personally, there's no way I'd buy a 2021 with there only being a $500 difference. It would take a LOT more lol as the difference is pretty significant and the resale value too is going to be there on the 2022 versus the 2021 should you decide to sell it in a couple years so you'll get that $500 back. But... that's just me ;)
At the moment it's nothing but rumors, I don't have anything concrete to go off of to say I think it's a "definite" thing. However, it's a very good possibility as long as these mini bike sales keep going through the roof!
Technically, it's 229lbs BUT I've seen many guys well over that ride these things for years so depending on your overall weight - I'd take that with a grain of salt. That's just me though ;)
After doing research, honda monkey just isnt worth 5k when you can buy a 300cc honda rebel for same price. I bought a navi love that bike, $2030 out the door. Hauls my 5'9" 2 60lb At 50mph 3/4 thottle. Fun fn bike
Everything looks fine except the price tag…it is the same price as my 390 duke. I understand they are different type of bike but I doesn’t explain the cheap components used in the monkey…
Why Honda hasn't upped the displacement to a true 150cc engine is beyond me be better suited for the Super Cub and Trail 125 given the tire size and would work wonders in the Honda Grom and Monkey especially if they add oil cooling system to the mix and maybe even help emissions some because the engine can run even cooler than just air cooling alone. If Honda Made this Engine a true 150cc engine with oil cooling the horsepower could be around 12 to 13.
There are a lot of countrys in the world where you're allowed to ride motorbikes with up to 125ccs with a car drivers license. That's a big part of why these are 125cc to make them appealing for those markets
You're saying the 125cc Honda Monkey gets about 156 MPG. That would be quite a feat since the Honda 90 only gets about 100 MPG. Your calculations and/or conversions are WAY off.
Great little motorcycle and thanks for the video although it might be best not to encourage people to drive them on footpaths as, in my country, it is against the law to do so. Thanks.
Hey Kevin. I think this is going to be my first motorcycle as a 30 yr old man. Is something like this interstate safe? Or maybe better put what is it’s top speed?
I'm sorry for the late reply, it's difficult to keep up with the comments coming in these days. It's definitely not interstate safe... I've hopped on the interstate with my Grom that has the same engine / transmission as this Monkey but it's only for a couple of exits and I'm experienced so it doesn't "rattle" me so-to-say like it might with a new rider when it comes to having traffic whip around you. Like Johnny said, you'll be topped out around the 55mph mark if you're average sized and then if you catch a draft or go downhill you'll be able to go a bit faster but still nowhere near interstate "safe" or technically legal in most areas due to its engine displacement. Depending on the bike as cc size doesn't always equal horsepower, you'll want something 250+ if you really want to ride on the interstate for extended periods of time and if you're really wanting to travel long distances, you're going to want something larger than that.
Opposite;
The square bore of the 2019 to 2021 is theoretically better. They probably made it have a longer stroke because of the compression ratio.
the euro lights are so much better
I love the black color scheme
Same here man, loving the blacked-out scheme on this! That reminds me, I need to shoot you this blacked out 22' Grom I stumbled across that looks killer.
I'd buy the monkey in a heartbeat if it had a passenger seat.
You can get pillion foot pegs for the Honda Monkey but the two of you need to be anorexic and lightweight.

Quality is good, keep up the good work and ride safe!
@@gustwowheeling7337 Thanks bud and you do the same out there!
Great review !!
Thank you! I've been trying to improve these so I really appreciate the kind words ;)
Thanks Bro for sharing the information on this new Honda bike.
Yessir, appreciate the kind words ;)
My next motorcycle will be a Honda Monkey 2022 125, ordering one in 2022 ... :-)
Heck yeah! What color are you going with?
@@HondaProKevin I have been thinking of ordering a blue / gray Honda monkey :-)
Also when you buy the new 2022 Honda Monkey it comes with a bunch of bananas.
lol right!
That is awesome should be picking mine up this month lol
Wish the frame, and rear sticks, we're still painted body color . I do like the changes though.( Mechanical)
I agree 100%! Those items being color matched really made the bike pop.
Love the classic style
That two tone is really nice 🙂
Oh yeah! The two-tone is just icing on the cake for the throwback style on these.
Thank you for the review! Really good information!
Appreciate the kind words ;)
I love the Honda monkey in the black cannot wait to get one
I see one of the happiest spring seasons of my life coming now, thank you Honda and Kevin. I finally got the hang of the clutch and have been running around my neighborhood. I don't think I agree with calling it a sewing machine hahaha it's quick, seems like 0-30 in 3 seconds Lol....at least Lol It really is the perfect first bike from what I see so far, I've been in third a little Lol I'm 275, didn't know sewing machines where that quick hahaha...thanks again sir ;)
Now there's a Honda Navi. Like a Grom with a 110cc scooter type motor an transmission
Just ordered mine!! Yeoooooooo
Heck yeah, congrats!
I really like it. I just wish it was a 150cc so I could take it to the highway here in California.
I like it but wish they had kept the entire painted frame like the 2021.
I agree 100%! The color-matched frames really made them pop.
Any tips for how to get a Monkey? Seems like they are a rare commodity these days. Been on the waitlist for months.
I just got mine 2024 thing is very fast . I changed the exhaust and air filter. Now it goes just over 81mph.
Wait, you're from Tennessee too? :D Small world, lol. I've been planning to visit Chattanooga soon, quite a coincidence to see it mentioned on a video of a motorcycle I'm hoping to buy
lol yup yup, here in good ole Chattanooga. You're spot on with the small world part, it blows my mind with how many people end up stumbling across these videos and are close by.
It's a great place to visit, definitely a lot of things to do and see around town. Plus we have some of the best motorcycle roads around thanks to all of the mountains around us! Best of luck on your new motorcycle hunt, these Monkeys are quite the cool toy to have ;)
@@HondaProKevin Good to hear, and looking forward to it! 😁👍
The cub and trail have a clutch, it’s operated with your foot as you shift. They also have a centrifugal clutch, so two clutches not none.
Looks like the minitrail we had in 71 that was routinely abused 2 adults at a time.
Poor Honda

Can You tell why? I have this dillema
I do wish ever so much that I could afford a Monkey. 🐒 Here's to the Navi.
I want one just to collect it love that look
lol I hear ya! I'd love to have the money just to be able to buy cool stuff like this and hang it up in the garage!
Buy two then. More fun!
Super cute mini motorcycle.
I ordered a Monkey… I pick it up in a few days
Lotsa fun! Thanks!
Appreciate it bud ;)
I believe my 2021 in blue and white looks better.
That blue / white combo is one of the best color schemes by far!
@@HondaProKevin I like your channel!

Waiting to see if Honda releases the CT70 update with a ST125 / Dax 125.
Yeaaaah buddy!
I got a 21’ pearl red , it’s totally modded out now, still need front fork upgrade because the suspension is trash, it’s got seat height for an adults and suspension for a 5 year old???
Do you have any information, news or updates on the 2022 Honda CT125? Do you know when it will be released in the US?
Yessir, here's the latest news on that topic: th-cam.com/video/TTz9iI2d-y0/w-d-xo.html&t

It reminds me of the old mini trail’s
These are awesome
Can't argue with that one ;)
i want a yellow one hella bad
Gotta love yellow on these little guys!
Hey Kevin I think you used the wrong thumbnail. Looks like a super cub in the thumbnail
Appreciate you mentioning it though as sometimes things slip by me and you guys help keep me on my toes so thank you ;)
If I had the money I'll wait for the dax
So, did I catch it right that previous models didn't have an oil filter, prior to 2022?
Yessir, that's correct ;)
Aw man I want one 🤩
Me too! I just need to rob a bank or three lol
Thinking about getting one as my first bike but worried about the clutch. Should I go with something like the trail 125 which doesn’t have a clutch?
get the dax 2023
No. Learn how to use a clutch. Challenge yourself. It's not that hard and this is a good size/power to learn on.
I missed it, does it still come in blue?
1:00 isch you got the price in. Congrats I am still watching.
another great job!
Have you heard anything on the 2022 pioneer 1000s? I’m hearing they’ll release in December.
@@HondaProKevin look forward to seeing a video on it when it’s released!

No no no, thank you ;)
How difficult is it to swap out the tail lights with the euro tail lights?
Looks so awesome. I would love to get one but I don't know to to ride motorcycle.
Anyone can ride, it's not difficult at all ;)
Check out your local MSF course and sign up, you can ride their bikes so you don't drop yours and once you're done with the couple day course you'll be all set to ride one of the Monkeys!
Update on 2022 CT125, Super Cub please!!!
I can't speak on it just yet but we're almost there ;)
What do you think of the new Navi?
Lol good timing bud, just posted a video on it ;)
I think it's going to sell like hotcakes!
@@HondaProKevin Awesome! I had a Ruckus and loved it but always wished it had more power. I agree, they won't be able to keep them in stock.
What's the max weight Limit?
I didn't realize how expensive these little bikes are.
Do you feel the improvements are significant for 2022 model? Local dealer will sell 2021 for $500 cheaper than 2022.
Personally, there's no way I'd buy a 2021 with there only being a $500 difference. It would take a LOT more lol as the difference is pretty significant and the resale value too is going to be there on the 2022 versus the 2021 should you decide to sell it in a couple years so you'll get that $500 back. But... that's just me ;)
@@HondaProKevin thanks - makes perfect sense!
Yeah buddy, best of luck on tracking one down! Sadly it's like finding a needle in a haystack these days due to this rona mess.

@@jw4111 If you are in the USA, you can get the European ones (non American ones) online.
Can someone explain the differences between 2020 vs 2022 engines? I don't know if it's worth paying extra for the new version
The only things I've noticed are the 5 speed (2022) versus 4 speed gearbox and the oil filter change is so much easier on the 2022.
Heard that Honda might be bringing back the iconic Dax, CT70 with this 125 set up. Is it true??
At the moment it's nothing but rumors, I don't have anything concrete to go off of to say I think it's a "definite" thing. However, it's a very good possibility as long as these mini bike sales keep going through the roof!
I wonder what the life milage will be on something like this

Muito bonita a moto. Pena que ela não vendida ainda no Brasil.
The motorcycle is very beautiful. Too bad it's not sold in Brazil yet.
I’m a big guy what is the weight capacity for the rider?
Technically, it's 229lbs BUT I've seen many guys well over that ride these things for years so depending on your overall weight - I'd take that with a grain of salt. That's just me though ;)
After doing research, honda monkey just isnt worth 5k when you can buy a 300cc honda rebel for same price.

What is the top speed for the monkey 125 cc
Everything looks fine except the price tag…it is the same price as my 390 duke. I understand they are different type of bike but I doesn’t explain the cheap components used in the monkey…
The components are not cheap and certainly not as cheap and tacky as the 390 Duke but totally different markets.
Wow very very nice 👍👌
Really a nice little bike But its Over 6200.00 Canadian! It in reality a small bike like this should be around $3800.00
What is that giant black plastic thing under the tank?
Gotta get one!!! 🐵
Holding out for a trail 150
Not safe for highways, top speed is only 55mph. Look for at least a 200cc bike if you need to use it on the interstate.
