    5 years late watching this .... the number of times I have asked classic car dealers what they would give me for a car - usually near mint ( would be mint once they titivate it ) - whilst standing next to an inferior one, and offer one fifth of that price with a straight face.

    what people dont understand about "webuyanycar" is that they give you an online price, BUT THEN, they get the car examined on a ramp by 1 of there mechanics, then, if this "mechanic" finds faults (which he undoubetdly will) which you have not declared, these faults are added up,the price to fix these faults is taken off the "original" online quote price, so your original offer price is drastically reduced !!!!!!!!

      Probably end up paying them to take the car off you at that rate

    Car dealer here, never used WBAC for a valuation. Only ever used a mixture of CAP/deltapoint and a scout of autotrader to scope what they actually retail for. Surprised anyone gets away with WBAC valuations for part ex’s but I guess main dealers have the monopoly on the walk in customers. WBAC average 70% of quotation value, my sister took her 100k 15 year old Chrysler there and they tried to knock her £150 for stone chips 😂

      Thanks for chipping in. Yes not everyone uses them but it is one, fairly lazy technique. Appreciate your expertise.

    I once went for an interview at "We Con Any One" (before it was sold to another company my legal advisers are telling me to state) for a car buying position where I was basically told "Always knock the internet quote price down after inspecting the car, and when the customer complains, blame the computer" - I decided against the job.

      Standard practice. Seems quite grim as job.

      We buy any are taking vehicles out of the private market to keep trade values high as well.

    Hello Tinplate back from the days when my videos got viewed. No idea what I said but I created an account to reply as I am out radio contact at the moment. Car pricing remains something of a con and is basically made up. I have one more classic to sell than am done. Hope you are keeping well.

    The guides get their prices from what the trade pays at auction . Trade in value may be close to guide prices but if the margins on what a dealer sells ( new vehicle) are bigger they will often give better prices to get the sale.

    Search ebay for the car similar to the one you want to sell or buy, then look at the completed listings, the ones that sold (price in green)? That's what it's 'worth'.

    • @bangernomics1
      @bangernomics1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a fair point.

      @@bangernomics1 ............thats NOT just a fair point, its totally CORRECT, it`s the most ACCURATE way and you see what cars are really worth, i`ve done it this way for years, when selling AND buying, all these daft price guides " we buy any car and rip you off" etc are a waste of time......................

      @@t5jerry i just got a quote from we buy any car. I have a mondeo 2ltr (163ps) powershift titanium-× estate it's just over 7 years old (61reg) nov 22.2011. £31k new list. I paid £10k. Jan 2014 perfect car to me. Wbac. Offer £3.6k. If i was selling i would ask £5k for that's £1k a year seems to be the norm. I plan on keeping it till it's a bangernomics car. I paid cash for it anyway so it's value means nothing to me really the older it gets the better.

    I've believed that car traders have always operated a cartel, to maintain their high profit margin, which is worsening year on year now that there are very few private sellers. Only last week I was told by a VW main dealer that they only have an £800 profit margin to pay for car refurb, offices, etc, which is a blatant lie as the 'book'/'wbac' price was £12500, and their screen price was just under £16000. They also quoted almost £400 gap insurance when I can get the same cover elsewhere for £90. The trouble is that there's little option now as like I said there are very few private sales of newish cars and auction houses add extortionate fees to private buyers.

    • @bangernomics1
      @bangernomics1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I've been talking a lot to car buyers recently about the death of private car sellers, it is becoming an issue and yes cartels in operation since the horse and cart.

  • @chrisredfield3240
    @chrisredfield3240 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Still can't believe anyone has ever given there car to WBAC . Unless you have a £50k audi rs4 that's only a year old and forgot how much it cost you. They will probably still only give you £11k
