  • I had no choice...The Missus made me do it. I HAD to go buy new MX5400 to keep her happy !! So today I brought it home and unloaded it and provided marginally accurate answers to questions peppered upon me by the Missus. I have to admit I am not used to new equipment at all. Technology has changed dramatically over the 7 decades I've been walking around. So I floundered a bit on some of the grapple and third function valve descriptions but will hopefully be able to be more succinct and factually correct answering questions in the near future. But for now, you are subjected to my limited and potentially incorrect information. #Kubota, #MX5400, #grapple

    Congratulations on your new purchase. I will say in my opinion the brake peddles on the left side will take some getting use to but will be much better when turning in slick conditions. Using the brake and the hydrostatic peddle on the same side is harder to use. A counterweight is a must. I also recommend a grapple from Everything Attachments. I have their Wicked 60 and love it. They are not the cheapest but are very durable, good luck and be safe!

    • @tractorman4461

      I have plans for a substantial counterweight for sure. About grapples....I didn't realize just how hard it would be to find one to suit my needs and be reasonably priced at the same time. I DID finally find one and it will be on the way soon. I'm not too concerned about the brakes being a bit different than what I'm used to, it was just odd to see them there. Thanks for the thoughts and for the time you took to watch.

      That makes sense. I was just taken aback at the Dealers when I saw it is all. When discing plowed ground with the old row crop Masseys we always had to turn with the brakes. The front tires would just slide instead of turn in the soft ground pulling a heavy tandem disc. I just figured that was kind of minimal now with the front wheel assist. Thanks for the cool comment today.

      @@tractorman4461 you’ll be surprised how lite the front can get sometimes, mine has fluid in all four tires and just the load alone makes the rear lite with just the loader let alone when you pick a load up with it, I understand my tractor is probably half the weight or even lighter but even tractors that are 60 to 80 Horsepower around here always run all four tires with fluid, but you’ll like your tractor they are nice it will take a day or two or maybe less and you’ll have it all figured out, by the way you have Awesome channel too, God Bless

The rear counterweight adds a LOT to ease handling good loads up front. I have approximately 450 pounds or more on the little B3030 and it really is the only way I could move some of the larger logs. Specs list 46hp net at PTO.
    .
    the number on the loader is a metric rating. For lift capacity, so its 1.065 metric tons.
    For reference a metric ton is very close to the same as a long ton.
    .
    So at max height, its English lifting capacity is about 2,200lbs-ish
    Im sure down at ground level its waaaay more.
    .
    Usually war ship displacement, is about the only halfway common use of a long ton.

      Thanks for the added information. I get a bit mixed up with the metric stuff...even with Celcius its hard to know how to dress. But that's just us American's. LOL. Yes, the HP rating is brake horsepower and that's totally misleading to actual net. On the loaders, I just double the number and add about ten percent.

      She DOES add a bit of a flair to the video Rick, that's for sure. Oh she will drive it when necessary. Heck if she can drive these 70+ year old machines with no power steering and lots of gears to grind, she should be pretty good with this one. (-: I was going to try for a package deal for a second one...but a 500i got my attention instead.

    looks good buy wendell wich is better water ballast or weights personally never liked water/liquid ballast

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I prefer weights my self. But the dealer said they had trouble getting weights and have for quite some time. So for now, liquid ballast will have to do. At least its not calcium chloride. That stuff rotted tens of thousands of rims over the years.

      I assumed pretty much all of it is made in Japan, but that is only a guess. I really have no clue. We as consumers have little to no control of that I think. It's a guess just where any of the parts of all the brands of tractors are built.

    Way cool Tractor man. My tractor has almost 400 hours on it and hasn’t registered yet. I keep the throttle at 1500 RPMs or above, and I never let it just sit in idle. Bigger tractor means you can move bigger logs. 🚜🪵😁

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The loader capacity and overall tractor weight was what drew me towards the MX series. I got tired of always being at the max with the littler tractors and the backhoe is just too cumbersome. Yes, I plan on maintaining higher minimum rpms and no idling around with it. Its all about exhaust temp keeping the system burnt out as I understand. Thanks for the comment. I learn a LOT from you guys.
