The fact that Manoj never tries to gain sympathy is such a small yet significant detail about his character. Even when the interviewer asks him what makes you more deserving he talks about cheating but never tries to gain sympathy by telling about his struggles. Truly a masterpiece of a film and a well written character!

This movie destroyed me. Being an upsc aspirant myself, I felt how privileged I am than he was and still how incapable I am of having such high will-power and tenacity. He is surely a huge inspiration. My favorite movie too jaby!

I watched this movie on 31st dec night , going into 1st jan.. Going through a personally challenging phase of career and life, it really gave me the inspiration to get up and Re-Start... Cannot understate the depth of what the real Manoj sir and Shraddha Ma'am and countless others go through.. They are inspiration for all

This film makes it clear that the magic in Rajkumar Hirani's movies was there because of Vidhu Vinod Chopra and that's what was missing in Dunki❤

Correct I also noted that, the emotional variation, the catch phrase restart, all these things were missing in Rajkumar’s Hirani
To put into perspective the toughness of the UPSC exam, in 2022 around 1.3 million students applied for it and only around 700 got selected. That's pass percentage of around 0.2% making it the toughest exam in India and one of the toughest exams in the world.
The best part of the movie is that the protagonist maintains and keeps his integrity throughout his life and struggle and he always smiles whatever the situation is
I cannot stop watching the ending the moment he falls down knowing he made it no moment as ever touched me like this
It's like he doesn't have to carry the burden on his shoulders any more and he can finally rest now... That moment made cry, like a baby

There are so many amazing moments in this movie. But for me the best moment is when Manoj goes back to the same officer who asked him to stop cheating and how that one sentence changed direction of his life. The officer couldn’t believe that it’s the same guy and seeing him successful makes hin emotional. That was so happy and emotional scene. ❤

An important detail is how that police officer reacted when he found out... The mixture of being proud for the little boy he once saved as well as respect for his now senior inspector.

If you notice the music, Manoj had more of a traditional music and shadharahas a modern piano, and when they are together emotionally, the music blends 🥰🥰🙌

Vidhu Vinod Chopra mainly collaborated with Raju Hirani mainly as a producer and was involved a lot for all of Hiranis movies EXCEPT for Dunki which in my opinion was the worst Raju Hirani says something.

Yes Same thought. This proves that all Other Hirani movies had big inputs of VVC. Actually after watching dunki, I was not believing it was a Hirani movie because the movie was pathetic. Till Sanju, VVC was with Hirani. They parted ways after that and Look what happened.

This movie made everyone realise that they have such privileges what some people even don't have,the education system is very corrupt in villages areas that's why parents send there children's to more of urban areas or cities like Mumbai,pune,delhi,etc.This movie has made everyone cry their eye's out. The dedication and that little support you need in your hard Times That's why Manoj made this far.

One more thing that the magical vvc put in was that the score for manoj was all indian instruments while for shraddha it was western instruments. And then only a couple of instances where both scores sort of amalgamate, one being where shraddha confesses her feeling to manoj. These small but impactful details made this film what it is, a masterpiece.

As a Pakistani, we were brought up on Bollywood but gradually phased out of watching Indian movies as we grew up. But every now and then, Bollywood comes up with gems like these thar bring back that respect and love for Indian cinema. Fantastic watch!

I love the character of manoj especially coz of the tenacity and determination that he displayed..Every time u see a problem come up,his persistence and fight goes harder..He never cries for his situation and difficulties..That’s the kind of person who can literally become an IPS amidst such difficulties coz it is as difficult as climbing mount everest..Unlike aspirants where we barely see the fight made by the candidates which doesn’t connect with the audience..
I love that jaby was so exited by the end of the discussion that he even forgot that Achara was hosting(intro,outro) for this movie and gave the outro himself😄
The movie is just a scratch on the surface.. This couple is a living testimony of our collective faith in goodness and humanity.. India is truly a country of paradoxes in Javed Akhtar’s words.. You’ll find the worst and the best example in human society.. Manoj and Shraddha are ordinary people with extraordinary values. They love story is beautiful and inspiring

A very important scene that no one noticed is when manoj went to free his friend in police station and the senior officer who turned blind eye on whole thing initially and accepted the corruptness of system and was siting powerless suddenly found his voice back when manoj started to fightback. He gathered his lost courage and for a short time he decided to stand on the right side that moment. It shows that he joined the force with right intent but slowly became part of system and accepted his fate. That's the real truth..manoj and dushyant are rare most of them start as them but slowly they becomes like that helpless cop.

12th Fail is the Best Movie of the Decade, in my opinion.
Last time I thoroughly enjoyed and felt a range of emotions from an Indian movie was perhaps 3 Idiots, I guess 🤔. Even if this movie doesn't go on to get many accolades, it is going to be one of those comfort movies that keeps playing in your TV in the background while you do your work simultaneously on a lazy Sunday afternoon ♥️
This movie shattered my heart and I understood what real sorrow, struggle and difficulty is We get sad over small things, they are nothing in comparison to these. This movie made me cry three times and its characters have inspired me to make my dreams come true in my life

I really broke down at the moment he went to the dsp,it was a full circle moment even for the dsp to see that a kid he gave a passing by but sincere advice took it to heart and came back to him as a bigger even more acheived person than himself must have been some moment.
I hope every IPS IAS who cracks exam with the hardwork and dignity of Mr Manoj Kumar Sharma maintains the same dignity and hardwork of their prep phase when they join in the service

The guy from shop running & screaming and the mother talking on phone was probably the most heart touching scene I ever saw in a film. Couldn't stop my tears when I saw it for the first time.
The scene where his mother on the phone always gets me. The raw emotion in her trembling voice asking "You have become an IPS officer?" is the moment when it hits me what he has come from and how much he has achieved in that moment.
Upsc is a journey,it's not the training after clearing the exam but the years put for the preparation of exam makes an officer. Manoj's scene in police station is a proof of that ..

A beautiful movie, felt like reading a fascinating story. I cried as well, most youths from 90s from villages who were ambitious can relate some of these events to their lives.Kudos to writer and director! I become fan of the lead actor.I would like to watch more of his movies...by a Malayali.
What's with "by a Malyali" ? What's the need to drag regionalism in this. Whatever is one's capability, that much he will do. Do the malayalis always need such kind of promotion so that atleast their regional people see their art, even though it is sub standard and disregarded by general public ? Loved both of your reactions to this! This movie did way more than it's budget at the box office but in my opinion it should've done 10x more, it just took the hype some time to get to the people and now it is doing good on OTT. The universal trope of the power of the human will to overcome insurmountable difficulty hits home for everybody that has been through their own struggles around the world and that is why this film could get nominated for an Oscar. Everything about it was brilliant and touches your very core. The message is infinitely important. Superstars like SRK should seek out scripts and directors like this more which I know is easier said than done as striking diamond is very rare but these movies with incredible messages need to reach more people, especially nowadays. On top of that a movie like this with SRK would've made 2000+ crores easily with all the word of mouth and given directors the motivation again to make more well written movies that impact the youth positively. But this specific movie, 12th Fail, is perfect as it is with its staff and cast and everything. Vidhu Vinod Chopra outdid himself. Vikrant Massey, Medha Shankar and all the actors were excellent. Bravo and congratulations to them for the success and the inspiration, especially to the real folks that this story is based on, salute to you.
You know what the problem is? A director will always be kinda put off to cast big actors like SRK in these movies or roles... they'll always be hesitant... big actors like him will only attract larger than life roles in today's world, that's an unfortunate fact
SRK can't be as good as Messey, he is a lot of overacting ki dukaan. He used to be a good thirsty actor but now he has overstayed his welcome.

The fact that it based on a true story and almost 90% is accurate, made this more special. You should watch real Manoj and Shraddha's interviews to feel more connected. Also Manoj's teacher in the movie at the tuition centre is actually the real life teacher of IPS Manoj kumar Sharma. He is a renowned educator in real.

If you see closely, when they're in cafe, in the background, actual IPS Manoj Sharma & actual Sraddha is sitting there & talking .... Just incredible Direction
Each and every scene of this film was so meticulously framed. The emotions captured with every important relation in his life was amazing. You can actually feel moving alongside each character silently yourself while watching. Congratulations to entire cast and crew. Enjoyed the reaction!
