    After 2yrs. of this video being made Case QC still sucks. My most recent sodbuster jr. purchases were very alarming to me. Why are Case knives being sold with warped blades? Why are $65.00 Case knives sold with gaps? No more business from me. Unacceptable!

    Hot take here: I would pay more for a Rough Ryder than I would for a Case (not that I'd pay $70 for a Rough Ryder). Every single Case I own came to me duller than a ball peen hammer, and RR has really stepped up their game in the past couple years. Not keen on paying $50 extra for a little "USA" stamp on the tang

    Here in Canada Grohmann knives sells 2nd's at a discount stamped with a 'S' or something else. If during their quality control inspection they find the knife that is not up to spec they simply stamp it and sell it as a second and everybody is happy. I'm sure some people who cannot afford a case knife would not mind to get a case knife that has a small defect but at a reduced price.

    • @slipjointguy
      @slipjointguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did exactly that when I got my last order of Barlows last year. (I didn’t stamp then though)
      Sold them at a discount to get rid of them.
      Also, if Case finds out they will remove you from their dealer network because (and I quote) “Case DOES NOT make factory seconds and selling them as such is against MAP pricing”
      That’s why I just stopped selling Case.

    I sent a knife back to Case to fix some blade wobble. It had visible side to side play when open. They fixed the blade play, but the blade would no longer snap closed. It would close about 3/4 of the way and then I have to push it down the rest of the way closed. Emailed them multiple times and they never responded. Case service was a disappointment. New Case knives are hit or miss. Just bought a medium and large yellow stockman. Medium was good, large has blade play on all blades.

    Just had a look at one of my Case trappers which has a very slight gap. It appears to me that the problem is that the brass liner material is warped at assembly, which would go back to stamping out the liners from the roll of material without adequate (or any) per-straightening. Either that or the punch is out of spec creating liners that are too long between the fastening holes.

    I collect slip joints, mostly rough Ryder and vintage American. Only have a few case, and they’re nice cuz they’re old. Gapping never bothered me much, but for the price, it’s gotta be near perfect. Having said that, the gaps on your Russ lock are terrible. I won’t buy a new case unless it’s in person which is rare. The blade wobble is my pet peeve, especially the amount your girls has. I mostly stay away from case cuz they’re too collectible and that makes them more expensive. The vintage shrade, Kabar, Queen, etc, to me, are just as nice if not nicer than most case knives they make nowadays. GEC are way too hard to get, love B Howard’s stuff from Queen, but I’m not playing the games ppl play trying to get a GEC. This video is a few years old, so I think that GEC that you got for $80, is probably over $200 now. lol

The Bear and Sons were advertised as made in the U.S. and the Rough Rider were made in China. The quality of the Bear& Sons was absolutely terrible, especially when compared to the Rough Rider...something is happening to U.S. quality!

I purchased a Barlow and examined it, it made a Case look like a GEC and a GEC look like a custom. Very very poor quality. And here’s a fun fact that makes a little since, the owner of bear & son was once high up in WR Case company as the (now) bear and son plant was a sister Case manufacturing facility 😆😆

    I’m based in Ireland so they’re expensive to get here and the dealer is based in Germany. It’s €80 which is like $95.

    I have a BIG problem with this video. First, and most important, I have purchased about a dozen Case knives, and have never experienced the issues documented in this video. Second, Case is an OLD company. That means one specimen might have a problem. Knife companies come and go. It's up to YOU, the buyer, to discern whether a knife is worth investing in. Don't be a fool; but under no circumstances should you listen to don't listen this guy. He has an issue.

      I was a case dealer, I purchased hundreds of case knives with each order. After many returns I started inspecting the knives. Out of the shipments I discovered about 1/3 of the knives to have returnable faults. I have a whole 3 part series on this where I even called wr case to try to understand why the quality went down.

    shouldn't say case sucks , if i get a defective knife from them i will send it back and they'll make it right , i' sent case knifes back that have broken and they've sent me new ones back to replace my broken knives and as far as GEC i'e seen them with gaps in them also but everybody acts like it's not a big deal when it comes to the great GEC which is a great knife but it should be when they only put out so many knives not nearly as many as case but i don't think case deserves to be picked on by GEC collectors , to each his own but i have went back and checked my case knives since you've brought this up but my small collection is fine , the only thing i like better about GEC is the half stop in the blades i wish case would make all there knives half stop and a little heavier spring for walk n talk

    This is all valid, but I wonder why Amazon did not receive a fair share of the blame as well. You did say, you can of course return it to Amazon, but they'll just 'rinse and repeat' and send it to the next guy. That's pretty shady, too. Also, you want Case to give-a-hoot, but whose responsibility were these knives while at Amazon's facility? Nobody's of course, no human's anyway. Even if there were a human, they wouldn't even be close to having any time or authority to affect anything. So, if we want people to have some pride in what they're selling, Amazon is kinda the antithesis to that.
